Chapter 519: Chapter 519: The Brutal Truth_1

"Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you..."

Just as Liu Ying was singing her own birthday song, suddenly she heard an additional voice coming from the corner of her room. The voice was lively and gentle, softly singing the birthday song along with her.

Liu Ying turned in surprise and saw a woman in a black dress, with a black hat over her long hair, and a black mask covering her face; only a pair of bright eyes that seed like a sparkling star in the night sky were visible.

On her shoulder perched a black cat, its eyes shining brightly.

Liu Ying looked startled, yet there was not a shred of fear in her expression. Looking at Qin Sisi for a mont, she intuitively sensed sothing unusual about the woman and asked in a gentle voice, "Are you Death? I’ve been waiting for you for several days."

Qin Sisi took two steps towards her and gently replied, "I am not Death; I am a mage, a contractor of soul power."

She deliberately revealed her identity and openly admitted that she ca to ask for her soul power.

Liu Ying slowly shook her head and said, "I don’t understand what you an, if you’re not Death, then you don’t need to be in my sickroom."

Despite her calm and distant deanor, Qin Sisi could sense that Liu Ying had an extraordinarily resolute heart.

Not wanting to appear condescending, Qin Sisi squatted down in front of Liu Ying, looked into her eyes and said, "You have at most one month to live. Do you know that?"

Liu Ying replied calmly, "So what? Since I was diagnosed with this disease, I’ve beco indifferent to life and death.

What’s the difference between a month and a day?"

After saying this, she stopped looking at Qin Sisi and rested her eyes on the candlelight flickering on the candles, as if reminiscing.

Qin Sisi considered her words carefully before saying, "I hope that after your death, you can offer your soul power to . In return, I can help fulfill any unfulfilled wish you have."

Liu Ying was soft on the outside but tough on the inside; threatening her would likely be ineffective, therefore persuasion was the only option.

Liu Ying finally looked up at Qin Sisi and abruptly asked, "Do humans really have souls?"

Qin Sisi nodded, and answered with certainty, "Yes."

Liu Ying continued to ask, "Where does a person’s soul go after they die?"

Qin Sisi patiently explained, "The majority of souls are escorted by the ssenger of Death to the underworld, where they await reincarnation. A small portion of souls forcibly stay behind in the human realm, becoming wild ghosts."

Liu Ying fell silent, not speaking for a while, rely staring blankly at the candlelight before her.

A little impatient, Qin Sisi refrained from speaking out. She could tell Liu Ying’s attitude had slightly softened, but she still seed extrely apprehensive.

After a long while, Liu Ying asked, "The person I miss the most is already dead. I don’t know where his soul is, can you help

find him and ask him a question?"

Qin Sisi hesitated slightly. In the past she had always asked Lan Di to look for people; she had never yet encountered a situation where she had to find a soul.

She turned her head to look at Ye You, who was perched on her shoulder. Ye You slightly nodded, indicating it could be done. He owed twice, giving Qin Sisi so hints.

Feeling relieved, Qin Sisi gave Ye You a small smile, before turning back to Liu Ying and saying, "Sure, but you need to tell

his birthdate and specific ti of death."

Liu Ying’s calm deanor stirred up so ripple; she asked sowhat incredulously, "Can you really do it?"

Qin Sisi started talking about matters of ghosts and gods, so Liu Ying simply asked a question that puzzled everyone and expressed her own wish. She didn’t expect Qin Sisi to readily give an affirmative answer.

Qin Sisi nodded emphatically and said seriously, "Yes, I can do it. Please believe , you tell

his birthdate and ti of death and I can find him for you now."

Tears suddenly trickled down from Liu Ying’s eyes, glinting in the candlelight.

She took a deep breath, then relayed the man’s birthdate and specific ti of death to Qin Sisi, accurate down to the minute.

Qin Sisi recorded these two tis. It’m shocked her that this man had died just a few days ago, and she couldn’t help but ask, "This person was your..."

Liu Ying replied calmly, "My husband."

Qin Sisi let out a gasp of astonishnt, looking at Liu Ying with startled eyes. In the mories that Ye You had read, there was no ntion of Liu Ying’s husband’s death!

Liu Ying’s lips were tightly closed; she didn’t seem willing to say more.

Qin Sisi could see she was struggling to control her emotions, so she stopped asking and moved on to the next question, "What would you like

to ask him?"

After a long silence, Liu Ying said in a low voice, "Ask him why he wanted to harm ."

Qin Sisi gaped at Liu Ying, feeling utterly confused, and blurted out, "Weren’t you two said to be deeply in love?"

Even Ye You who had read her mories flashed an expression of confusion and looked at Liu Ying. His mory reading magic couldn’t possibly be wrong. But the significant discrepancy between the mories and the reality was indeed hard to comprehend.

Liu Ying gave a bitter smile and said, "I also once believed we were deeply in love, but I later found out that it was just wishful thinking on my part."

After she learned that she had stomach cancer, Liu Ying felt as if the world was spinning, unbelievable. As a dical staff mber, she had always been mindful about maintaining her health, and she was only thirty-two years old. How could she get cancer?

Suppressing her fear and sorrow, she went to her husband’s office, but her husband wasn’t there. On his desk lay her favorite litchis, along with a box of dicinal needles and a used syringe.

Although the unfortunate news caused Liu Ying imnse pain, perhaps because she worked in a hospital and had seen the fragility of life, she had not lost her wit.

The items on the table struck her as odd, so she stepped forward to investigate.

After reading the instructions on the dicine bottle and noticing that the litchi was divided into two parts, a frightening suspicion ford in her mind.

The dicinal needles were chemotherapy drugs that could help cancer patients kill cancer cells.

If they’re used on a healthy person, the drugs would also kill many healthy cells directly, causing damage to the immune system, ultimately leading to cancer.

The syringe had been used. Liu Ying sniffed the needles, then she sniffed the litchi. One part of the litchi had the sa sll as the needles.

Liu Ying reeled back in shock, barely keeping herself steady. She took large gasps for breath while leaning against the wall, the cold and cruel truth of her perfect marriage brutally naked before her eyes.

Why?

Why?

...

She asked herself over and over again in her mind, then silently left her husband’s office. She staggered along the long hallway, finally fainting at the entrance of the stairs.
