Chapter 333: Chapter 333: Thoroughly Heartbroken Revenge_1
Qin Sisi had been reading the magic notebook for a while, only to feel bouts of drowsiness co and go, blurring the world in front of her.
Unable to help herself, Qin Sisi put down the magic notebook, rubbed her eyes, and brightly asked: "Why hasn’t the old man co back yet? Did he go to give his son and daughter-in-law a dream again?"
Ye You looked at Qin Sisi with tender concern and softly said: "Go to sleep. There’s no point in waiting."
"But..." Qin Sisi hesitated, feeling uneasy, as though sothing was about to happen.
Ye You’s claw rested on Qin Sisi’s back of the hand and he gently said: "Don’t think too much. Just rember my words – let it be."
Gazing into Ye You’s deep sea-like eyes, Qin Sisi finally nodded her head gently in agreent.
The quilts were a bit cold, but Ye You’s body was as warm as a furnace. Snuggling up to him, Qin Sisi fell asleep gradually in the darkness.
After what felt like forever, Qin Sisi was awoken by a strange noise.
Half awake, she realized the noise was right in her room. Startled, she quickly got up and turned on the bedside lamp.
With the room now illuminated, she could see everything clearly.
The old man’s ghost had returned, it was huddled in the furthest corner of the room, its skeletal hands covering its face, crying.
He’s crying?
Qin Sisi was taken aback. The sight of an old man, skeletal and aged, crying inconsolably was hard to endure without compassion.
Qin Sisi turned to look at Ye You. Ye You had woken up the instant the old man’s ghost entered. His purple eyes saw the old man slowly shrinking into the corner and begin to cry.
Ye You wanted to wake Sisi up but resisted when he saw her sleeping so peacefully.
He let her sleep. When it was ti for her to wake up, she would, naturally. There was no rush in dealing with the old man’s affairs.
Qin Sisi whispered to Ye You, "What happened to him?"
Ye You fell silent. He had his suspicions, but nothing was certain yet, so he rely shook his head.
Qin Sisi got out of bed, put on her shoes and went over to the old man. She squatted down and softly asked, "Are you okay, old man?"
The old man didn’t respond. He just cried softly, his hands still covering his face.
Assuming that the old man was anguished over the incident of his second son and daughter-in-law using a peach wood nail, Qin Sisi tried to reassure him, "Don’t worry too much. When they discover that the nail doesn’t work, they’ll follow my advice."
The old man cried for so more ti. It was approaching 4 o’clock in the early morning when he finally lifted his head and hoarsely said to Qin Sisi, "Miss, you should seal
away now."
Confused, Qin Sisi saw that the old man was in a bad mood and didn’t want to talk, so she stood up and signaled at Ye You.
Ye You raised his claw and the figure in the corner disappeared. A faint wisp of smoke flew into Ye You’s hand.
The outside world was still shrouded in darkness, so quiet. It was a long, cold winter’s night. Especially in rural areas where people didn’t have work, everyone preferred to get out of bed a bit late.
Qin Sisi went back to bed and, confused, whispered to Xiao Hei, "Is sothing wrong? Why was the old man crying so sorrowfully?"
Ye You’s eyes flickered before he softly replied, "We won’t know until daybreak."
Qin Sisi reluctantly nodded and closed her eyes again.
But her heart was restless. The image of the old man covering his face and sobbing pain didn’t stop bothering her until she was finally able to fall asleep again, light as it was.
When it was just getting light, Qin Sisi was awakened by the crowing of roosters.
Thinking of the previous night’s events, Qin Sisi lost any desire to sleep. She decided to get up, put on her clothes, and breathed so fresh air in the yard.
The air was chillingly cold during the early winter mornings. A deep breath led to an intense chill from her nose to her lungs.
As Qin Sisi rubbed her hands and stamped her feet for warmth, white mist escaped from her mouth. The chilling coldness cald her mood considerably.
The old lady of the inn was also up. Seeing Qin Sisi standing in the yard, she warmly greeted, "Miss, you’re up very early today!"
Qin Sisi smiled and replied, "I couldn’t sleep, so I got up."
With a rry laugh, the old lady said, "Then go ahead and play around for a while. I will go cook."
Qin Sisi nodded and couldn’t help but smile awkwardly.
Play around? It seed she was way past the "play" age.
The breakfast today was pancake, millet porridge, and in addition to the tofu-boiled cabbage and two cabbages with black beans from yesterday, there were also scrambled eggs.
Though not rich, it was obviously tastier than yesterday’s.
Qin Sisi asked the old lady for a plastic bag and packed so food for Ye You.
The landlord couple didn’t say anything and didn’t show any displeasure. They just watched with a smile.
The cold winter, a hearty, steaming breakfast, it was enough to lighten the mood.
Right after Qin Sisi and Ye You finished eating, frantic calls could be heard from outside.
Qin Sisi and the landlord couple exchanged puzzled glances, wondering what had happened so early in the morning.
The old lady opened the door to let a neighbour in. The neighbour nodded at the old lady, then imdiately turned to Qin Sisi and said, "Magician, you must co and see. Sothing big has happened!"
Qin Sisi imdiately got up and solemnly asked, "What happened?"
The neighbor gasped for breath and said, "I... He... Ah, you better co and see for yourself!"
Seeing the neighbour’s panic, Qin Sisi wasted no more ti, picked up Ye You and followed the neighbour outside.
The Landlady and Landlord exchanged glances, hastily donned their coats, and followed outside.
The neighbour led Qin Sisi to the house of the old man’s second son. Before they could reach the house, Qin Sisi saw a large crowd gathered around, and she could faintly hear loud crying.
A sinking feeling settled in Qin Sisi’s heart as she walked faster towards the crowd.
Upon reaching, she ca to learn through the people’s accounts that the second son and his wife had succumbed to carbon monoxide poisoning. And it was too late to save them.
A ringing noise echoed in Qin Sisi’s ears as the image of the pained old man covering his face replayed before her eyes.
So that was the reason for his sobbing!
His beloved son, who he had raised painstakingly, not only failed to provide him with familial warmth but ignored him entirely, leaving him to fend for himself even post-death.
Nor did they show any generosity in burning paper money for him after his death.
Learning that his soul hadn’t moved on, they even invited a mage to nail a peach wood stake onto his grave, attempting to trap his soul underneath forever.
The old man initially just had so complaints but when he saw the peach wood stake pounded into his grave, his heart turned cold.
