Chapter 561: Scales of Leviathan
Five days after the battle under the sea against the awakened serpent, Leviathan, the adventurers who participated in the battle triumphantly returned. The sad thing is that none of the adventurers can bring the body of the Leviathan back to land.
After its death, the Leviathan disintegrated into bubbles, leaving behind a lot of the scales and a few items that dropped afterward. The adventurers, of course, carried the scales back to land. With the recent battle against the serpent, these scales should suffice as a replacent material to repair the armor, weapons, and shields that got damaged and broken.
Despite the huge body of Leviathan being gone, at the very least, the expedition is successful, and the adventurers did not go ho empty-handed, and managed to earn back the expenses for the whole expedition.
Even Elaina, who is not part of the expedition to defeat the serpent, received compensation for helping produce the Underwater Breathing Potion. A few unprocessed scales are ready to be processed and used. The only problem is that... Elaina has no use for these scales.
Sure, they are good materials for weapons, armor, shield, and many other equipnt...but for Elaina, who is a farr and does not wear armor to fight enemies in dungeons, it is kind of useless for her.
"As much as I am thankful for these scales, Grandpa and Grandma, I don’t think I have any good things that would make any use for these scales," Elaina scratches her head as she stares at the 5 huge scales that Rakkan lay down to the grass patch, shimring and shining under the sunlight.
"Hey, if you don’t like it, you can just sell it as it is. There are lots of people willing to buy these scales, you know? You might no longer need to farm again if you sold these, though," Liliana smiled.
"Hah, even if I sold them, that doesn’t an it will be a good reason to stop farming. I am doing this for my own amusent and not as a business venture," Elaina sighed and glanced at the scales once more.
"As long as you accept them, it’s good. After all, without the Underwater Breathing Potions you provided for us, I don’t think we can fight against the serpent on equal terms," Rakkan said with confidence. "So, as a reward or compensation, these should help out."
"Well, I could definitely be able to use them as accessories or sothing. As long as I can just get rid of them completely, everything should be fine," Elaina sighed.
"That’s good. We will be leaving the scales here. We are still busy with the aftermath of the expedition, so we won’t be staying long. Please say hi to the children for us, alright?" Rakkan nodded at Elaina before leaving with Liliana.
Elaina watches the pair leave the farm before her eyes return to look at the scales of the monster.
"Is it even safe for us to use this, considering that soone got almost taken over by Leviathan himself not too long ago?" Elaina scratches her head.
"I don’t see any bad thing keeping the scales. In fact, we can even use that as a good additional ingredient for the fertilizers," the Harvest Goddess floated right next to the scales. "And from the looks of it, your grandma also blessed and purified the whole thing in advance. I don’t think this will cause problems anymore. I am sure of it."
"These things as fertilizers? That’s the first ti I have heard of it..." Elaina frowned.
"It is true. I can detect minerals that are present in egg shells and bones on these scales. Grinding these scales into fine powder and mixing them with the ground should be a good addition to your crops," the Harvest Goddess nodded like she understood what was going on.
"What? Seriously? As a fertilizer? Nah, I don’t want to risk it. My grandma might have already blessed and purified it, but that doesn’t an it is enough for
to trust it. Knowing how the Leviathan is capable of manipulation, there is a chance that a small part of this serpent lingers on that scale. And if we mix it as fertilizer for the plants, that’s just similar to eating the power coming from the serpent. I don’t like that."
"Wow, so choosy, Elaina. And here I thought you were fine using anything at your disposal. This is the first ti I have seen you genuinely decline on this thing and to stop its potential uses," the Harvest Goddess did not expect Elaina’s behavior at all.
"Well, you can’t bla
for how the situation with Mier not too long ago, that should be enough for
to doubt it, and even the possibilities it might have. Any kind of thing that can result in any kind of possession of any kind is enough of a dealbreaker for . Even creating it as an accessory is not a good thing. It should stay as far away as possible from my plants and from people as well."
"Ugh, so ticulous. It’s not even that bad, and you seed to doubt the capabilities of your grandmother, who blessed and purified this whole thing. If you are that paranoid, then perhaps you can just use them as decorations around the farm? Even though they are just scales that are no longer attached to the serpent itself, it still exudes enough aura and sll that monsters nearby aren’t gonna like. It can act as so sort of repellent instead, how about that? You don’t need to process them, you can just leave them as is, and this should work like a monster deterrent."
"That works with these scales? I don’t think I am slling anything from it aside from the fact that it seems to sll a bit disgusting for so reason," Elaina sniffs on the scales and coughs in disgust after.
"Farr...did you bonk your head or sothing? That’s not how it works, and I don’t think you can sll its deterrent capabilities, as humans and monsters are different. Just trust
on this one. Putting all five around the farm’s corners should help alleviate and deter potential enemies."
"If you say so, then I will do just that. Deterring monsters away from my crops would definitely help."
The Harvest Goddess nodded in agreent. "Good to know. This should help the farm a little bit. It might not deter all monsters, but this should keep small monsters away from the farm more."
Elaina nodded. That’s the best course of action this ti and would put her mind at ease. She is about to begin hauling these shells to their areas when Joe runs fast towards her, catching her breath.
"Ah, Boss Elaina! You need to see this! Sothing happened to the corns and tomatoes we planted!"
Elaina creased her eyebrows. "What’s going on? Care to tell?"
"I think it is best to have you see it yourself, Boss! This is the first ti we have seen these before!"
Hearing this, Elaina got worried and imdiately followed Joe. By the ti they arrived, Poe, Bam, and Ram are currently scratching their heads as they look at the fruits that Joe ntioned had sothing happened.
And that’s how Elaina understood why it is a bit unexplainable for Joe. Even she was surprised and a bit baffled by what she was looking at.
"Boss, you are finally here. Look, so of your plants seem to have developed so sort of mutation. I don’t think I have seen this kind of thing happen before, have a look at it!" Bam exclaid as he pointed to one of the plants Joe and Bam ntioned.
Looking at the crops, she was then welcod by a golden sheen coming from an ear of corn that had yet to leave the stalk of the corn. It hasn’t been removed and has not yet been peeled. But for so reason, it is already glowing in gold.
"What the heck? A gold corn?" Elaina grabbed the ear of corn and touched the husk. It still feels like a regular corn husk without any sort of tallic sheen. It is still the sa ear of corn. The only difference is that it has a different color now compared to the regular corn.
"Not only the corn boss, but even the tomatoes have also been affected as well. Have a look!" Poe points on the other crop is experiencing the gold color issue.
Elaina turned, and her eyes landed on the tomatoes. There are lots of tomatoes ready for harvest already, but looking at the other fruits, Elaina frowned as many of them are shining bright gold. They are like marbles due to their gold sheen.
She is not sure what is going on when the God of Farming pops off its ssage and appears before Elaina.
"[Looks like congratulations is in order, Elaina.]" the God of Farming said.
"Eh? Congratulations for what?" Elaina scratches her head.
"[It took a while, but it seed you had finally managed to farm and grow a variant of those golden vegetables and fruits. That’s good to know, I like it!]"
