After arriving at the parking lot, Kang Jinwook did not get out of the car.
"Executive Director."
Secretary Gwak, who had been on the phone here and there, called out to Kang Jinwook. Instead of answering, Kang Jinwook turned his gaze toward him.
"I've confird it."
"Who was the replacent worker who ca to
that day?"
"That... it was soone they didn’t even know themselves."
Kang Jinwook’s eyebrow sharply rose. His displeasure was apparent, and Secretary Gwak quickly added to his explanation.
"They introduced themselves as soone from our company."
"Soone from the company?"
"Yes."
"Who from the company?"
"They didn’t know. They said they had received a business card, but lost it, so they couldn’t confirm the na. However, they clearly saw 'Taesung Construction' written on it and thought the identity was confird."
Kang Jinwook’s eyes slowly grew colder. Even though the person wasn’t emitting any pheromones, the air in the car beca heavy.
Secretary Gwak noticed that Kang Jinwook was displeased by his answer and realized that sothing must have happened that day. He could only assu sothing had gone wrong, but couldn’t recall anything specific.
What’s going on? What went wrong?
Secretary Gwak’s mind raced, quickly going over the events of that day. But it had been so ti ago, and there hadn’t been any issues back then, so nothing particularly stood out to him.
"I’m sorry."
But if Kang Jinwook judged that sothing was wrong, then it was certainly his mistake. Secretary Gwak apologized with that in mind.
However, Kang Jinwook wasn’t interested in Secretary Gwak’s mistake. He was rembering that day.
If he hadn’t been mistaken, the person sitting in the driver’s seat had definitely been Choi Sunwoo. After that, Kang Jinwook, dazed from his rut, had confused him for the driver, but it was most likely Sunwoo who had gone with him to the hotel.
Naturally, it would have been Sunwoo who brought him to the room as well. And if that was the case, the Oga who had co under Secretary Gwak’s orders to et with soone from the company had likely t with Sunwoo.
"Take
to the hotel."
Having sorted out his thoughts, Kang Jinwook finally gave the order. Secretary Gwak didn’t ask which hotel. He simply entered the destination into the navigation.
The hotel Kang Jinwook referred to in this situation was the G Hotel, where he had stayed during his rut.
While the car made its way toward the destination, Secretary Gwak made a call to the hotel’s security chief. Since it was a subsidiary, there was no need for complex procedures.
"Please prepare the CCTV footage from 11 PM on the 29th to the early hours of the 31st."
"Also, footage from the 31st, from the early morning to noon."
As he listened to the polite response, Secretary Gwak glanced away. Kang Jinwook, who had given the order, was staring out the window with a blank expression. Secretary Gwak, following Kang Jinwook’s instructions, also asked for the footage from the 29th and from the 30th to the 31st morning.
It didn’t take long for the car to arrive at the hotel. Rather than the lobby, they used the private entrance reserved for VVIPs.
The security chief, who had been notified in advance, was waiting for them. As soon as Kang Jinwook got out of the car, he didn’t bother greeting anyone and went straight toward the hotel.
"Please, this way."
The security chief, who had just snapped to attention, quickly guided Kang Jinwook. They soon moved toward the central control room.
Inside the control room, everyone had left except for one staff mber. This had also been arranged by Secretary Gwak in advance.
Kang Jinwook’s gaze imdiately shifted to the desk with several monitors. Each monitor displayed CCTV footage from the 29th, 30th, and 31st.
"Everyone out."
Kang Jinwook’s order rang out.
"Yes, Executive Director."
The security chief quickly responded and led the staff out of the room. Once they left, only Secretary Gwak and Kang Jinwook remained. Yet, Kang Jinwook didn’t move.
Even without turning around, Secretary Gwak imdiately understood what Kang Jinwook wanted.
"I’ll wait outside."
Once Secretary Gwak stepped outside, the room fell silent. Only then did Kang Jinwook’s gaze return to the monitors.
He selected the footage from the 29th. The hotel corridor was still quiet, and no one was in sight. Kang Jinwook stared at the screen with a detached expression.
It wasn’t long before figures appeared in the video. Two people, but one was almost completely overshadowing the other, as if one was holding up the other.
The two had a significant height and body difference. To anyone watching, it would look like one person was supporting a drunk friend.
The hotel room door opened, and the two disappeared inside. Ti passed, but no one erged. After a long while, the door opened again, and one person ca out.
Kang Jinwook narrowed his eyes. There was no need to look closely. The face that appeared on the screen was unmistakably Choi Sunwoo. Not long after, another person appeared from the opposite side.
The two t in the corridor, seemingly exchanging words. Kang Jinwook didn’t hesitate to plug in the headphones connected to the computer.
Normally, CCTV footage didn’t record audio due to legal restrictions. However, for security reasons, this hotel had been set up to record sound. It was intended to assist with investigations if sothing went wrong.
Few knew about this, but Kang Jinwook was one of them, so he listened to the recorded audio without hesitation.
"You said you're with Taesung? Oh, I see. Your na is Choi Sunwoo, right? Nice to et you, I’m..."
The Oga who had received a business card from Sunwoo spoke in a soft voice.
"No need for introductions. We’ve confird each other’s identity, so you can go now."
Sunwoo’s characteristic cold tone was evident. Kang Jinwook noticed a difference in Sunwoo’s voice compared to before.
His current voice was more pleasant to listen to. Without realizing it, Kang Jinwook compared the two.
"Ah, yes. Actually, sothing ca up, and I was at a loss about what to do. Anyway, please take care."
"Don’t worry. Just keep your mouth shut."
"Of course. I’ve made mistakes."
"No one else saw, right?"
"No, no one. Even if it got out, it wouldn’t be a good situation for . I’ll be going now."
The Oga bowed slightly. Sunwoo stood there for a mont before turning around and looking up.
Their eyes t. Though it was just a glance from Sunwoo at the CCTV, it felt like he was looking directly at Kang Jinwook. Kang Jinwook stared at the face of Sunwoo, who seed to be watching him.
Sunwoo’s lips twisted into a smirk, one that looked like he was scheming.
"Different."
It was clear that the recent Sunwoo was different. His expression, his gaze, his tone, and even the way he smiled. Everything about him seed like a completely different person.
After a few monts, Sunwoo turned and entered the room. Minutes passed, but he didn’t co back out.
Kang Jinwook selected the next video. The sa thing happened, even after morning ca and no one ca out of the room. The day passed, the night ca, and then the next day dawned.
It wasn’t until the video from the 31st was played that the door finally opened again. This ti, Sunwoo staggered out, as if he had been drinking.
But he couldn’t walk far and collapsed to the floor, unable to move. The high-definition CCTV caught his shoulders shaking repeatedly.
"Ha... ha... Kang Jinwook, bastard. How much longer is this going to go on?"
Sunwoo’s murmurs faintly ca through the headphones.
"Is this not enough for you? Ha! Bastard, just wait. I won’t let you off. I told you, didn’t I? It won’t go the way you want."
After catching his breath, Sunwoo stood up again. His gaze lifted, and he glanced at the CCTV.
Despite his voice sounding as if he was about to collapse, his face showed an expression full of smugness. Kang Jinwook, quietly watching, slightly curled the corner of his lips.
Sunwoo flopped down onto the living room sofa.
He had taken a walk through the forest for an hour, had dinner with Kang Jinwook, and talked. Most of all, the conversation had been ntally burdenso, so the exhaustion felt heavier.
"I can’t stand it."
What should I do now? He had been given a day to think about it, but there were no other options.
He had no choice but to comply with the conditions Kang Jinwook had set. Well, if not, there was only one other option: telling Chairman Kang.
"What’s the condition?"
Now that he thought about it, he hadn’t even heard what Kang Jinwook wanted. He had only been told to think about it, which made things more difficult.
Sunwoo rubbed his forehead, trying to think about what Kang Jinwook might want. But it didn’t seem like there was anything he could ask of him.
"Or maybe... ask
to disappear sowhere out of sight?"
From Kang Jinwook’s perspective, Sunwoo, an engaged Oga with an unknown child, would be nothing more than a scandal. Honestly, Sunwoo should be grateful that Kang Jinwook hadn’t kicked him out already.
He didn’t know why he had been given the chance, but at least Sunwoo could prepare for sothing, so it was fortunate.
If that was the case, Sunwoo would welco it. Since it would be hard to disappear sowhere right away, he could stay here out of Kang Jinwook’s sight, give birth to the baby, and then consider going overseas.
Then Kang Jinwook would, as in the original story, build a life with insu, living happily together.
That was only natural.
"What’s wrong with ?"
Why does my stomach hurt like this? Sunwoo sighed deeply. Yeah, that’s the way it should be.
What I wanted in the first place was to avoid ending up like the villainous Oga, wasn’t it?
Sunwoo’s face as he rubbed his stomach changed from relief to a bittersweet expression. But he didn’t notice it himself.
Soon, his hand that had been rubbing his stomach stopped, and Sunwoo’s eyelids drooped.
