“Is it over? Did you completely break up with Director Kang? Are they going to do that to you at his house too?”

At Kim Tae-yeol’s teasing question, Sunwoo furrowed his brows.

“No. His family doesn’t know yet. But they’ll find out soon enough.”

“Huh... You’re telling

they’ll just let it happen? I don’t think so.”

“Why wouldn’t they?”

If anything, shouldn’t his family want him and Kang Jinwook to break up?

Sunwoo had always been known as a Beta to others. So it was unthinkable that a prestigious family like the Taesung Group would consider soone like him, a Beta who couldn’t even have children, as a legitimate match for Kang Jinwook. After all, Kang Jinwook was supposed to be the heir to lead the Taesung Group.

‘Even in the original, Chairman Kang wasn’t too fond of the main partner who ca from a poor background.’

That’s why he openly tried to interfere with their relationship, even helping the sub-partner kidnap the main one behind the scenes. And later, he’d planned to get rid of Sunwoo, who was also a Beta.

At that mont, an idea suddenly crossed Sunwoo’s mind.

“Wait, wasn’t it... Jeju Island?”

It was when Chairman Kang found out about the main partner’s existence on Jeju Island. Sothing had happened back then.

What was it again...?

Sunwoo narrowed his eyes, trying to recall the pre-revision details of the original plot.

“Jeju Island? Did sothing happen between Director Kang and Jeju Island?”

“Huh?”

At the sudden voice, Sunwoo was startled and looked up. He found Kim Tae-yeol sitting in front of him, looking confused.

He had forgotten that he was talking with Tae-yeol, lost in his own thoughts.

“No, more importantly, what do you an by ‘it’s impossible’?”

At Sunwoo’s question, Kim Tae-yeol nodded to himself as if coming to a realization and then spoke up.

“That plot of land that Taesung Construction’s headquarters is built on... that’s yours, right? So, it seems like they tried to get you to marry to take it from you or sothing, didn’t they? Oh, I guess you don’t rember this either?”

What... is he talking about now? Sunwoo’s eyes widened.

“The land where Taesung Construction’s headquarters is built is mine?”

“Yeah. Well, to be precise, your grandfather passed it down to your parents, and you inherited it as part of your inheritance.”

Sunwoo gripped the glass with droplets of ice water, but his hand went cold from the chill. He didn’t even notice the sensation.

Co to think of it, he had heard from a proxy that the sub-partner owned quite a few properties.

At the ti, he had just been curious about the extent of their wealth and hadn’t thought about exactly what or how much they owned.

But now it seed so entangled. At this point... He really wasn’t just a simple villainous sub-partner, was he?

“I’m really rich...?”

Sunwoo couldn’t help but marvel at the realization. And it wasn’t just any kind of rich.

He was the owner of the land where the country’s top corporation, Taesung, had its major business—its construction headquarters building.

They say the landowner is the most important, but isn’t being the owner of the land the building was built on even better?

“But it’s strange. Why would a conglorate like Taesung Group choose to build on land with an owner?”

Sunwoo tilted his head. Normally, when soone builds a building, they buy the land first, didn’t they?

“I don’t know the exact details either. You didn’t know either. But like you said before, your grandfather was a benefactor to Taesung Group’s previous chairman. Maybe that’s how you got involved with them.”

“Ah...”

Kim Tae-yeol’s words made sense. The exact reason wasn’t clear, but the involvent between Kang Jinwook and the sub-partner seed to stem from that favor, the one that bound the two families together.

He hadn’t imagined it would be this complicated.

It felt like the connection between Kang Jinwook and him was deeper than he had thought.

Now that he thought about it, in the original synopsis before the revisions, the sub-partner and Kang Jinwook were portrayed as classmates. They had been together from elentary school to middle school.

“Wait, then does that an I’m the one with the upper hand over Kang Jinwook?”

Isn’t that right? Sunwoo’s question made Kim Tae-yeol wear a perplexed expression. It was true, but sohow it seed strange too.

“Well... I guess so?”

More than anything, Kim Tae-yeol didn’t understand why Sunwoo seed so pleased saying that. But since it wasn’t wrong, Kim Tae-yeol nodded. He kept glancing at Sunwoo’s face.

He was sure Sunwoo was the sa as usual, but sothing felt different.

Had Sunwoo always been like this? Having been together since they were 17, Kim Tae-yeol thought he knew him well. But the Sunwoo in front of him now didn’t seem like the person he knew.

‘He said he lost his mory, but it really feels like he’s completely changed.’

Before, Sunwoo had been more self-centered, rude, and clueless.

But now, the person in front of him didn’t seem like that at all, which was both intriguing and strange.

“Huh...”

So that’s how it was. Kim Tae-yeol thought about how he saw him, but Sunwoo was already lost in his own thoughts, trying to sort out his relationship with Kang Jinwook.

Before, he thought it was just a hierarchical relationship between an executive and a secretary. The sub-partner was emotionally subjugated because he had unrequited feelings for Kang Jinwook.

But it wasn’t like that. He had quit his job, didn’t love Kang Jinwook anymore, and was even the owner of the land where Kang Jinwook worked.

‘I don’t have to be dragged around by Kang Jinwook anymore.’

Sunwoo gripped the glass tightly once more. He could feel the chill from the glass even through his palm.

Right, there was no need to be dragged around by Kang Jinwook anymore. It seed like it was ti to properly sort out their relationship.

“Then, can I move into your house now?”

Sunwoo, who had been lost in thought, looked up at Kim Tae-yeol with a puzzled expression.

“What?”

“You kicked

out because of Director Kang before. Told

to leave so it wouldn’t cause any misunderstandings. Now that that’s been resolved...”

“You and I lived together?”

“Yeah.”

Kim Tae-yeol chuckled as he said it. To be precise, it wasn’t that they had lived together, but rather that Kim Tae-yeol had sowhat forced his way into Sunwoo’s place.

It had been Kim Tae-yeol who had coaxed Sunwoo into finding a place near their university, using the excuse that their original ho was too far away.

Then he had slyly unpacked his things there. At the ti, Sunwoo had just lost his parents and was in a vulnerable state, so it was possible.

Since Sunwoo had lost his mory, Kim Tae-yeol had cleverly concealed the truth.

Sunwoo looked utterly dumbfounded. Then, seeing Kim Tae-yeol’s expression, he gave him an incredulous look.

“You’re just saying random things because you think I lost my mory, aren’t you?”

Despite his usual indifference, Sunwoo was observant and quick-witted.

Having worked at a publishing company for a long ti and t various people, he had developed the ability to read people through their expressions, looks, and even small actions.

It was clear that Kim Tae-yeol was lying. It wasn’t all lies, but there was more falsehood than truth.

“Huh? Oh, no, it’s not like that.”

Caught off guard by Sunwoo’s question, Kim Tae-yeol stuttered. It wasn’t true? Sunwoo crossed his arms and stared at Kim Tae-yeol. Kim Tae-yeol, now surprised, glanced at Sunwoo.

If it had been the old Sunwoo, he would have brushed it off and said, “Oh, really?” But now, Sunwoo was not easy to deal with.

“No, you’re trying to sneak your way in. Don’t even think about it.”

“It really feels like you’ve completely changed, not just lost your mory.”

Kim Tae-yeol muttered, and Sunwoo flinched. Like the saying goes, “The cow steps back, and the mouse catches it.” He didn’t know if Kim Tae-yeol said that on purpose, but he did feel a bit pricked.

Still, Sunwoo, feeling awkward, pretended to drink the nearly empty peach iced tea in the glass and set it down.

“Well, you said it was okay. We lived together since college. You know how uncomfortable it is to live alone after staying in such a nice place? You hated it when you ca over before.”

Indeed, the officetel Sunwoo had lived in had three rooms and was quite spacious. If he had to move to a tiny studio apartnt after that, it would be inconvenient.

But that was Kim Tae-yeol’s problem, and Sunwoo had no intention of letting him back into his house.

“I don’t know what I’m supposed to think about that since I don’t rember it. But now that you’ve earned enough money, we can live well on our own.”

Above all, it didn’t sit well with Sunwoo that his friend seed to expect help just because he had money.

Of course, Sunwoo didn’t say that out loud. After all, Kim Tae-yeol would just take it as a sermon he didn’t want to hear.

“And now I don’t have a house either.”

“What?”

Kim Tae-yeol’s face turned confused.

“I sold the house.”

“Why?”

“Why? I did it to avoid Kang Jinwook.”

To be precise, it was because Sunwoo wanted to live outside Seoul to get away from Kang Jinwook. But he didn’t think it was necessary to explain that to Kim Tae-yeol.

Ding.

At that mont, Sunwoo’s phone, which had been in his pocket, rang. He didn’t even need to look at it to know who it was.

After all, the only person who knew the number of this phone, other than his attending physician Han Soojin, was one person. Of course, now Kim Tae-yeol was also added to the list.

And it was obvious who would be the one to contact him at this ti.

[Sunwoo. What about lunch?]

As expected, it was Kang Jinwook. It wasn’t even noon yet, but he was already asking about lunch.

Sunwoo tapped the keypad lazily.

[I’ll send you a picture when I eat, so don’t rush .]

[What are you going to eat?]

Why is he so curious about what I’m eating? Sunwoo thought for a mont and then tapped out his reply.

[Well, I haven’t decided yet.]

After all, there were only a few things he could eat. But since he had co to Jeju, he had more options, so now he could eat healthier and more nutritious food.

He expected a reply right away, but Kang Jinwook went quiet. However, Kim Tae-yeol, unable to wait, urged Sunwoo.

“Hey, why did you sell the house?”

Sunwoo stared at the ssenger app for a mont and set the phone down on the table. He was about to answer when another vibration made his gaze drift toward his phone.

[Think about it. We’ll eat together.]
