Chapter 265: Pity
You Qi’s gaze scanned Jiang Cheng’s body. He frowned. He couldn’t imagine Jiang Cheng’s clothes being any expensive. The edges were frayed, and the craftsmanship wasn’t that good.
“Do we need to change into the staff’s clothes?” Zuo Qing, who had been observing, spoke. Her voice was magnetic. From current information, Young Master Huang probably suffered from illnesses like hallucinations. Such patients were afraid of strangers. It was reasonable for them to dress like the staff to approach him.
“In a way,” Butler Zhou’s beard trembled. “I have sothing else to attend to. She will help you change.” He prompted the middle-aged woman behind him. Then, Butler Zhou left with the vicious-looking man and the young woman.
“Dear Dafus, please co with ,” The middle-aged woman’s robotic voice began. After taking a few more turns, everyone had a better understanding of the space within the Huang Manor. The yards were interconnected through a half-moon arch. With hollowed-out designs on the walls, the space felt large and inviting. There were also reliefs of unknown creatures at secluded corners. They were probably ant to ward off evil. As they kept moving to their destinations, they encountered more of such carvings.
“If you ask …” Shi Liaozhi said softly, “This young master is already dead and has turned into a ghost. That’s why he can only co out at night…” Suddenly, he clamped up. Many travellers had considered this, but that was different from voicing it out. The atmosphere beca curious. If that was true, they were basically walking into the trap.
Tang Shirou was so scared that she could barely stand. After all, she was the only one who had witnessed the young master’s true form. Thankfully, An Xuan ca over to steady her and allowed her to lean on him. “Don’t be scared, Miss Tang,” He whispered, “I’m here.”
“Thank… you, Mr. An.”
“Just stay close to .” An Xuan smiled.
Regardless, certain risks had to be taken in the nightmare. This was the perfect example. If they didn’t go and et the young master, they’d never solve the mystery. Plus, it was better to et him in the day than at night. After weighing the pros and cons, they decided to visit the young master.
“We’re here.” After pushing open an old wooden door, a well-decorated building of three storeys appeared before them. The doors and windows were closed, and there was no sound. There were paintings of actors singing on the walls and pillars. They were graceful and gorgeous. Considering what happened yesterday, the travellers felt a chill in their hearts.
“Does… the young master live here?” Shi Liaozhi asked unnaturally.
“Yes.”
“Shouldn’t we change first?” Fatty blinked, “Why did we co here directly?’
The middle-aged woman opened a door on the first floor instead of answering. After who knew how long, the sun finally shone into the building. The woman turned around and ordered evenly, “Please change.”
As she moved away and revealed the inside of the room, the travellers’ eyes dimd. So of them had harder breathing. The room was hanging with many different opera costus. There were white costus, blue costus, and green costus… but the most captivating one had to be the bright red costu hanging right in the middle of the room. The sharp red of the costu reminded one of the raging sea of blood.
When she saw the red costu, Tang Shirou was stunned. With a buzz in her mind, she fainted. It looks like… the thing that Tang Shirou saw the night before was wearing this red costu.
“Do… we still need to change?” Fatty gathered his courage to ask. However, just as he finished, several shadows zood into the room. They ignored the others and started to change openly. It soon dawned on Fatty. Even though there appeared to be a lot of costus, most of them were incomplete. Only those deeper in the room could be worn. And he made a quick count. There were nine complete costus, and there were ten of them!
An Xuan reacted quickly. He abandoned the fainted Tang Shirou and rushed in. He grabbed a light blue costu, afraid that others might fight him for it. Fatty was worried that he’d be late. As he was about to run over, he felt a pull from behind. He turned around and realised it was the Doctor. The Doctor looked calm and at ease. He was looking at Xia ng, who had already changed into an orchid-coloured dress. Her white skin beca pearlescent when paired with the costu.
“Doctor,” Fatty asked anxiously, “Aren’t we going to grab the costus before it’s too late?”
“Why worry?” Jiang Cheng shrugged, “Don’t we have her?” Fatty turned to where Jiang Cheng was pointing. Tang Shirou was lying on the ground. Her face was covered by her hair. Her half-exposed face showed that she was in great pain.
Fatty understood the Doctor. As long as Tang Shirou didn’t wake up, there would be enough costus. When she woke up, she only had two choices. Either she didn’t put on the costu, or she had to put on the red costu that no one dared to get close to. The costu was worn by the young master the night before.
Fatty sighed as he looked at the young girl.
“Do you pity her?” Jiang Cheng asked.
“A bit,” Fatty admitted, “But my pity is pointless. Perhaps I’ve been cheated too many tis. I’m even wondering if she’s acting, but now…
“It doesn’t matter if she’s acting.” Fatty shrugged, “If she’s not acting, she’s dead. If she is acting, she must have access to things we don’t know about, and her goal is to kill all of us. No matter what, her stance is definitely not our ally.
“In that case, she can only be our enemy,” Fatty stared at Tang Shirou and said coolly, “Once there’s suspicion, do not give them a chance to fester.
“You taught
that, Doctor,” Fatty concluded.
