Su Qing had once considered the possibility that Zhou Yuwen, like her, had been reborn. However, she dismissed the idea after hearing a rumor that Zhou Yuwen had seventy or eighty brothers and was a gangster boss. Knowing Zhou Yuwen well, Su Qing concluded that even if he were reborn, he would never beco a gangster boss. So, she theorized that her rebirth had altered the tiline, thus changing Zhou Yuwen’s life path. Still, she found it hard to believe that even Zhou Yuwen’s reading habits had changed to match Shen Yu’s preferences so perfectly, especially since it was Su Qing who had introduced those books to Zhou Yuwen in the past.
At this mont, Su Qing began to suspect Zhou Yuwen again.
“Why are you staring at ? Do I have sothing on my face?” Zhou Yuwen asked Su Qing.
“Huh?” Su Qing’s thoughts were interrupted. She asked suspiciously, “Do you really like those books?”
“Why would I lie about that?”
Shen Yu joined in the conversation, smiling as she and Zhou Yuwen discussed various aspects of the books they liked. For instance, Shen Yu had read Love in the Ti of Cholera five tis and had deep insights into the character Fermina. Zhou Yuwen responded fluently, discussing the novel’s ending where two eighty-year-old lovers sail on a ship, buying cola, which seed absurd. Gabriel García Márquez used magical realism to depict their pure love.
“Yes, I think their love is very pure,” Shen Yu agreed, her eyes shining with approval after hearing Zhou Yuwen’s interpretation.
“I ca here to chat and drink, not to listen to discussions I can’t understand. Can’t we talk about sothing more relatable?” Chang Hao complained. He never liked reading, barely even his textbooks, and now Zhou Yuwen and Shen Yu were discussing literature beyond the curriculum.
“If you really want to talk, add each other on WeChat and chat later!” Chang Hao suggested, earning stern looks from Su Qing and Li Qiang. Su Qing’s glare was fierce enough to intimidate Chang Hao, making him cough awkwardly. “I ant purely for literary exchange,” he added.
Li Qiang’s look wasn’t as sharp, just filled with a bit of resentnt. No one paid much attention to him, but Zheng Yanyan chuckled, finding the situation interesting. It seed both Su Qing and Shen Yu were interested in Zhou Yuwen.
“So, Zhou Yuwen, are you really planning to beco a writer?” Zheng Yanyan asked.
“No, I never planned on that. I don’t know why she keeps pushing
to write novels,” Zhou Yuwen said, glancing at Su Qing.
Su Qing explained, “I didn’t an traditional novels. I ant web novels.”
“Web novels? I’ve never read that kind of thing. They’re not very enriching,” Zhou Yuwen replied directly.
“?” Su Qing’s eyes showed a hint of disdain. In the past, Zhou Yuwen had loved web novels, and Su Qing had often scolded him for it, urging him to mature.
“I like web novels!” Li Qiang finally found a topic he could join in on. He was surprised to learn that a goddess-like figure like Su Qing enjoyed web novels too.
“Hey, there’s this really amazing web novel author online who writes 20,000 words a day and swears never to abandon his work. Isn’t that impressive?” Li Qiang shared excitedly, thinking it was an amusing fact.
Zhou Yuwen raised an eyebrow, realizing his novel was quite popular. Unfortunately, no one else seed interested in Li Qiang’s topic, so the conversation shifted to other subjects.
Ti flew by as they ate and drank. Forty minutes passed, and everyone went to get more food. During this ti, Chang Hao kept chatting with Zheng Yanyan, while Zhou Yuwen talked with Su Qing, occasionally joined by Shen Yu. Li Qiang wanted to join in the conversation with Shen Yu but couldn’t find a way to do so.
After a while, Li Qiang noticed Shen Yu wasn’t interested in him. She seed to be sowhat aloof, especially towards him, while being more open and cheerful with Zhou Yuwen. Seeing this, Li Qiang turned his attention to Lu Lin, who had been quietly playing on her phone with her legs crossed.
“Hey, Sister Yanyan, who’s your roommate? Why hasn’t she joined the conversation?” Li Qiang asked.
Zheng Yanyan looked at Lu Lin and replied, “That’s Lu Lin. I introduced her earlier, but you must not have been paying attention.”
“Really? I don’t rember.”
“She did introduce her. I knew it,” Chang Hao said, rolling his eyes.
“Oh, right. Why is she so quiet?” Li Qiang continued.
Lu Lin, noticing the attention on her, looked up from her phone. Beneath her baseball cap, her eyes were pure black, and her small face added to her delicate appearance. “You all go ahead and chat. I’m fine with playing on my phone,” she said.
“We can’t leave you out, Lu Lin. Join us,” Li Qiang insisted with a smile.
Lu Lin saw Li Qiang’s friendly smile and didn’t say much. She hadn’t taken this mixer seriously and was there mainly to accompany her friends. With the focus on her now, she put away her phone.
anwhile, the others went to get more food. Su Qing continued clinging to Zhou Yuwen, this ti directly holding his arm.
“What are you doing?” Zhou Yuwen asked.
Su Qing scrutinized him and asked, “Zhou Yuwen, are you really from this world?”
“You’re such a strange girl. If I’m not from this world, then where would I be from? Are you feeling okay? Do you have a fever?” Zhou Yuwen said, reaching out to feel her forehead.
This intimate gesture made Su Qing blush, and she quickly pushed his hand away, “What are you doing?”
Zhou Yuwen laughed, thinking, “We’ve been married, and you’re still getting shy?”
“You wanted
to be your boyfriend, but now you’re shy?” Zhou Yuwen teased.
“That’s different.”
Back at the table, Li Qiang had shifted his focus to Lu Lin, who seed uninterested in socializing. Feeling hot, Lu Lin took off her jacket, revealing her slender arms in a black tank top. Her quiet deanor and elegance struck Li Qiang, making him more enthusiastic in his attempts to chat with her.
Despite Li Qiang’s efforts, Lu Lin found his enthusiasm botherso. She noticed the pack of cigarettes Chang Hao had left on the table, took one out, and skillfully lit it with a lighter. Taking a deep drag, she exhaled the smoke elegantly, feeling more relaxed.
Li Qiang was stunned by her graceful smoking. “You don’t mind
smoking, do you?” Lu Lin asked.
Li Qiang shook his head vigorously, having been captivated by her elegant and lancholic deanor. For the first ti, he realized he was genuinely attracted to Lu Lin.
