However, even though the Forbidden Realm Gatekeeper was powerful and possessed nurous skills, it couldn't cast them without limit.

The recent battle seed to have completely drained the Gatekeeper's Mana.

Now at a disadvantage, the Gatekeeper could no longer unleash any more of its skills.

Fang Zhen quickly swapped his pistol's magazine for a fresh one.

After reloading, he saw that the Gatekeeper was still slumped on the ground. It looked like it was trying to move, but it was unable to.

'Looks like it's really finished.'

Fang Zhen used the Assassination Step, swiftly moving behind the Gatekeeper.

The Gatekeeper tried to turn, but the movent was incredibly awkward.

A white light flashed.

Fang Zhen used the Power Mountain Seal once more. This ti, he didn't aim for the tough skull, but for the weak point where the neck t the spine.

His spear, wreathed in the Five-Colored Fla, plunged into the target.

PSH!

This ti, the feedback from his spear told Fang Zhen he had truly broken through.

The Forbidden Realm Gatekeeper's body went rigid.

Imdiately after, the Forbidden Realm Gatekeeper's head and arms drooped, and it could only manage the slightest of movents.

'Is it over?' Fang Zhen didn't dare lower his guard.

He pulled his spear free, wondering if he should strike again.

"I am defeated," the Forbidden Realm Gatekeeper's voice suddenly rang out.

Fang Zhen had been about to strike again, but he paused upon hearing this.

'Did I trigger a cutscene or sothing?'

The Forbidden Realm Gatekeeper's head hung low, but its tone wasn't one of despair. It seed its body was simply no longer under its control; its voice remained slow and calm.

"I arrogantly believed no one could cross the border between the living and the dead past . It seems now that I was wrong."

"Your strength has surpassed my expectations. I respect your power."

"The boundary between life and death is indeed a line that mortals cannot cross."

"However, the prerogative of the powerful is to be unbound by mortal limitations."

"You have already transcended the limits of a mortal. I acknowledge that you are worthy of entering the Forbidden Land and the Netherworld."

As it spoke, the Forbidden Realm Gatekeeper struggled to pull an object from its robes.

The object was tiny in the Gatekeeper's enormous palm.

Fang Zhen sidestepped twice to get a better look and saw a grayish-white tal ring in the Gatekeeper's hand.

"This is the Ring of the Dead, my gift to a warrior powerful enough to walk the line between life and death."

"Wear it, and you will be able to hear the voices of the dead."

"The words of the dead are often more trustworthy than those of the living."

Fang Zhen didn't take it imdiately. Instead, he watched, waiting to see if anything would happen.

Just then, a grayish-white fla seed to ignite within the Forbidden Realm Gatekeeper's body. The Gatekeeper rapidly began to turn to ash, its remains flaking away like butterflies and scattering into the air.

Witnessing this, Fang Zhen finally believed that the Forbidden Realm Gatekeeper was truly dead.

Only then did he step forward and take the Ring of the Dead from the Gatekeeper's hand.

The Forbidden Realm Gatekeeper's body completely dissolved into grayish-white ash, which then scattered on the wind.

Fang Zhen watched the ash disperse before turning his attention to the Ring of the Dead.

The Ring of the Dead was forged from so unknown, grayish-white tal. Its surface shimred with a faint, silvery light, as if infused with the radiance of distant stars.

The inner band of the ring was smooth, able to fit fingers of any size, while the outer band was etched with an intricate design.

The outer band was engraved with ancient runes and patterns that, in a certain light, would reveal a faint, ghostly glow, like the whispers of a soul.

Each side of the ring was adorned with a small skull carved from a dark gemstone, its hollow eye sockets seeming to hold endless secrets.

After a mont's thought, Fang Zhen removed his plate gauntlet and slipped the Ring of the Dead onto his finger.

Instantly, he seed to hear an almost inaudible, low-frequency vibration. It felt as if faint, ethereal spirits were whispering at his ear.

Fang Zhen quickly put his plate gauntlet back on.

"I can't believe it. You actually defeated the Forbidden Land Gatekeeper!" Avera said as she walked over, an expression of utter disbelief on her face.

Fang Zhen nodded slightly, his expression unchanging.

In his heart, however, he had already beco exceedingly cautious.

The entire basis of his cooperation with Avera was that she needed his strength to deal with the threats in the Forbidden Land—chiefly, the Forbidden Land Gatekeeper.

Now, the Gatekeeper was dead, and the treasure of the Legendary King, Anlon Lie Feng, was within reach.

For both Fang Zhen and Avera, their value to one another was plumting.

anwhile, the potential rewards of betrayal were skyrocketing.

With the foundation of their cooperation gone, it would only take a mont for them to turn on each other.
