As the voice faded, the sky darkened further as a series of visions took form around them. Mountains burned, rivers ran red and huge armies of spectral warriors clashed beneath banners that bore no dialect mortal tongues could decipher or na.

Above them, celestial beasts tore the clouds asunder locked firmly in combat. Dragons of fla fought with tooth and claw against phoenixes of ash, while tigers of thunder ean rampant of human settents.

Ning Xue stood frozen, awe and dread written across her face. "This... this is the War of Nine Divines," she whispered. "The age when gods fought for dominion of the realms."

Li Wei’s jaw tightened. "And this mountain was a battlefield." The ground quaked as the largest of the celestial beasts fell, its body splitting open like a mountain breaking apart. From its blood poured rivers of molten qi, seeping into the earth.

Due to the passage of ti, its blood had ford leyline that now sustained the valley they were residing in. "This is the foundation from which the land ca to be," Li Wei murmured. "A wound that had never healed, becoming nourishnt for the ecosystem"

The spirit’s voice returned, low and sorrowful. "You see now why the mountain is watchful against mortals. For every altar that was raised upon its bones, another piece of its pain stirs fervently. Tell , mortal. Do you hope to soothe it, or scar it even deeper?"

Li Wei t the unseen gaze. "If the past cannot be undone, then let our presence heal, not harm. Lend us your guidance."

"Very well, be prepared to bear its weight."

A column of light speared downward, striking the ground before him. Within it, a shape ford. A vast monolith carved from a vibrant block of obsidian, pulsing with the sa sigils etched upon their altar.

Its surface shimred with the reflected faces of his people, each flickering like a candle fla. The spirit spoke again. "Each of you must bestow what cannot be reclaid. The altar’s heart hungers for an offering"

Ning Xue stepped forward first. From her sleeve she drew a pendant, a fragnt of crystal shaped like a crescent moon. "This belonged to my sister," she said softly. "Her mory lives through . Let it live through you as well."

She placed it against the monolith. It sank within, glowing faintly.

i Yu followed, her fingers trembling. She tore a page from her own diary, one inked with her clan’s treasured archives. "Knowledge is preservation. Let my secrets be a sign that our fates are interlinked

One by one, others ca forward, each offering sothing personal and cherished by them such as tokens, mories, fragnts of spirit. The monolith absorbed them seamlessly, its glow deepening from silver to gold.

At last, only Li Wei remained.

He stood before the monolith, expression unreadable. "What cannot be reclaid..." he murmured. "Then I offer this." One could observe a small relic clenched within his fist, but the exact nature of the artifact could not be deciphered.

He pressed his palm to the stone and released his qi. The light that poured from him was not volatile but steady, like a sunrise from the epoch as though he had been saving it for this mont.

It coiled around the monolith, binding it like a halo. For an instant, the entire realm trembled. Images flooded his mind his clan’s history, their wars, their exodus, their countless losses.

The laughter of his mother, the screams of burning cities, the silent faces of the dead. All of it poured into the altar’s heart. Li Wei was not even aware that he had these mories, it appeared his past self had kept this to himself.

When the light faded, he stood pale and shaking, the monolith now gleaming with tranquil radiance. The spirit’s voice softened. "You rember. And recognition is the seed of peace."

The marble plain dissolved.

Li Wei awoke upon the altar’s summit once more, the morning sun glinting off the basin before him. The crowd stirred below still alive, unhard, though visibly shaken. The basin’s water had turned pure gold.

Ning Xue’s voice quavered as she approached. "Was that... real?"

Li Wei nodded slowly. "As real as rain. The mountain shared its truth and accepted ours."

He gestured to the basin. Within its golden depths now rested a single object, a small crystal sphere. It pulsed faintly like a heartbeat. i Yu leaned closer completely awestruck. "The Heart stone. The mountain’s core condensed into tangible form."

Li Wei regarded it silently, then spoke: "From now on, the Heartstone will be a mark of covenant. It will anchor the altar and serve as proof of our accord with the spirit. Guard it well, for if it shatters, our bond may never be nded"

Jia Lin bowed deeply. "By my blade and breath, it will be protected."

That night, the valley was alive with quiet jubilation. Music drifted from the lower terraces, mingling with the fragrance of cooked grain and wine. Children danced near lanterns that shimred like captured stars.

Yet Li Wei remained apart, standing at the altar’s base. The Heartstone glowed faintly above him, casting a golden reflection in his eyes. Ning Xue joined him, holding a cup of tea. "You should be with them," she said gently.

He smiled faintly. "They don’t need a leader tonight, they need peace. For the first ti in weeks, perhaps they feel it." She looked up at the altar. "Do you think the spirit will keep its word?"

"The spirit has no need to deceive us," he said. "But harmony is not absence of danger, it is rely coexisting with us for the ti being. The mountain sleeps, yes. However, beneath every calm plateau the current still moves."

Ning Xue nodded thoughtfully. "Then we must move with it."

He glanced at her, the faintest warmth in his gaze. "That is precisely the point."

As the night deepened, a cold breeze swept across the ridge. The lantern flas wavered. From the summit, the Heart stone pulsed once, sending a ripple of light across the valley

It was soft, like a sigh.

Far away, beyond the mist-wrapped mountains, that sa ripple brushed across the borders of Crescent Moon City. In the highest chamber of the Protector’s Pavilion, a crystal orb upon Ba Zi’s desk flickered in response.

The old warlord looked up sharply, his eyes narrowing.

"So," he murmured, "that mountain stirs again." The protector of the Northern provinces had been utilizing the full extent of his authority to mobilize his forces to ensure that his regi remains the dominant force within the region, while clashing with infidels like the Blood Lotus cult and searching for the Liu clan

His reflection shimred within the orb, split by the faintest glimr of red light. Bai Zu had been playing with fire all his life, but as he grew older the protector grew more unreserved.

"The Liu think they build prosperity," he said coldly. "But all they’ve built... is now a beacon." Ba Zi had traced the location of the heart stone, thereby uncovering the whereabouts of the Liu clan. Currently, his units were still cleaning up Blood lotus cultists that had been reeking havoc on the populace.

By first light of the new day, Ba Zi was already formulating his next campaign. This ti he would be there personally to finish off the Liu clan, and decapitate the heretic that had led them down this path.
