Chapter 28: Wingman, Please Don’t Fall in Love With

On the way to the food street, Chu Yuwei walked while sneaking glances at Jiang Zhou.

Although she had kept emphasizing that she had a boyfriend today, deep down she knew it was just an excuse.

However, she wasn’t sure what exactly her and Jiang Zhou’s relationship was now.

Were they just friends?

But her feelings for him had clearly gone beyond the boundaries of friendship.

Were they lovers?

But she had indeed rejected his confession before.

Besides, Jiang Zhou had said he confessed to many girls and didn’t an it seriously. Even if she wanted to say yes now, she was too embarrassed to ask.

What if he said that “parting on good terms” line again?

Was she really going to throw aside her pride and chase after him?

“Why are you looking at ? Being this handso will cost you to look, you know!”

Chu Yuwei snapped back to reality. “Who’s looking at you? I was looking at the jianbing stall.”

Jiang Zhou turned his head to glance at the nearby food stall. There was a chubby man in a white tank top making jianbing.

The tank top was a bit too small and couldn’t cover his big belly.

“Chu Yuwei, you’ve got a pretty wild taste, huh? No wonder my confession failed, it’s because I’m too handso!”

“I didn’t! I was looking at the food, not the person!”

Jiang Zhou casually lit a cigarette. “Back to serious stuff. Did you call Uncle Chu?”

Chu Yuwei nodded. “Dad told to thank you. He also said…”

“Said what?”

“He asked if you’d like to co over for dinner during the October holiday.”

Jiang Zhou flicked his cigarette ash. “Sure, I’ll co.”

Chu Yuwei was surprised. “Didn’t you say you didn’t want to spend ti with ? That I was annoying?”

“I think Uncle Chu’s a good guy. He even complinted . Who said I was going because of you?”

“Oh…”

Jiang Zhou glanced at her. “‘Oh’ is your answer? You don’t want to go?”

Chu Yuwei quickly explained, “No, I an, ‘oh’ as in ‘got it.’”

“Girls these days, never direct with their feelings. I bet you’re one of those who won’t make a sound at night either.”

“Huh? Why wouldn’t I make a sound at night?”

“That’s adult stuff, don’t worry about it.”

Chu Yuwei had no choice but to lower her head and obediently follow behind him.

At the sa ti, countless eyes began to gather around them.

Aside from studying, college students lived for gossip.

So the mont Chu Yuwei registered for classes, soone who liked pretty faces had posted her photo on the campus forum.

In just half a day, many boys at Qingbei University knew there was a beautiful new freshman.

But why was this beautiful freshman out shopping with such a thuggish-looking guy?

“They’re all looking at us,” Chu Yuwei whispered shyly.

This was her first ti being out shopping with a boy and getting so much attention.

Jiang Zhou nodded. “Probably never seen Beauty and the Beast before.”

“Hey! Jiang Zhou, who are you calling the beast?!”

“My bad. I ant to say ‘a hunk and his malnourished little tail.’”

Chu Yuwei puffed her cheeks. “I’m not malnourished, okay? I’m sure of it!”

Jiang Zhou raised an eyebrow. “Oh? How are you sure?”

“I… I consulted the female doctor at the school clinic.”

“A female doctor? How old is she? Is she pretty?”

Chu Yuwei gritted her teeth in frustration. “Can you stop focusing on other won when you’re with ?!”

Jiang Zhou suddenly stopped and looked at her. “Miss Chu, may I ask. What am I to you?”

“I…”

“Aren’t we just friends? I was hoping you’d help as my wingwoman at Qingbei, so please, don’t fall in love with .”

Chu Yuwei was instantly reminded of what she had once said herself.

We can’t be a couple, but we can be friends.

What goes around, cos around.

Now Jiang Zhou was using her own words against her.

Just then, a group of girls ca walking from the other side of the food street.

In the center was Huang Qi, the girl who had tossed a note to Jiang Zhou earlier.

The rest seed to be her dorm mates.

Seeing Jiang Zhou out with another girl shocked them.

The only handso guy in their class already had a girlfriend?

“Jiang Zhou, what are you doing here?”

Jiang Zhou looked up. “Oh, it’s the pretty lady. What a coincidence.”

Huang Qi gave a bright smile. “Call by na. Shouting ‘pretty lady’ on the street is a bit much.”

“Miss Huang, good evening.”

“Mr. Jiang, good evening to you too.”

Chu Yuwei watched their flirty exchange and imdiately felt a sense of danger.

Jiang Zhou had said he wanted to flirt around in college. Was this another one?

Then Huang Qi looked at her. “Is this your girlfriend? She’s gorgeous.”

“No, just a high school classmate. We’re just grabbing a bite.”

“Oh, I see.”

At that mont, Chu Yuwei suddenly grabbed Jiang Zhou’s arm. “Daddy, I’m hungry.”

???

Jiang Zhou was stunned.

Where did that nickna co from?

This malnourished little brat really knew how to ti things.

I just said we were friends, now calling daddy?

Total sabotage!

“Let’s go eat, daddy!” she tugged his arm.

Jiang Zhou turned back to the girls. “Sorry, we haven’t eaten yet. Maybe we’ll chat next ti.”

Huang Qi blinked knowingly. “You two classmates seem close. I won’t interrupt then.”

“See you around.”

“Yeah, see you.”

Once they were gone, Jiang Zhou looked at Chu Yuwei. “Not only are you not helping wingman, you’re sabotaging now?”

Chu Yuwei pouted. “You were the one who told to call you that. Besides, I really am hungry.”

“Hungry? Then let’s eat here. Afterward, scram.”

“Where?”

Jiang Zhou pointed at a nearby restaurant — “Ten-Mile Fragrance Mala Tang.”

Chu Yuwei was a bit grumpy.

What kind of guy takes a girl to eat mala tang?

Still, she was hungry. So she went inside.

After picking out their ingredients, they found a corner seat.

Jiang Zhou fetched hot water from a thermos and cleaned the utensils for her.

Then he borrowed an apron from the counter and tied it on her from behind.

She was wearing a white dress today, and mala tang was all soupy and ssy.

If she got it dirty, it’d be hard to clean.

While he did all this, Chu Yuwei sat quietly, not moving, watching his eyelashes.

She thought Jiang Zhou was so strange.

He was always complaining and teasing her with words, but in all the little things, he was so attentive and thoughtful.

Just like when he helped clean her dorm, he even made her cry from being moved.

What kind of person was he, really?

Did he like her… or not?
