If one progresses step by step, it's most stable; minor achievents, revealing a few hands of Daoist Skills in front of others, pose no problems.
But there are also drawbacks.
First, the progress is slow.
Second, the temperant is unstable and easily influenced. Losing control and devouring thoughts in disarray can lead to infiltration and corrosion by these thoughts, subtly altering one's character, which is a common occurrence.
This is why ordinary practitioners of Sexual Cultivation often have queer and extre dispositions, causing trouble without being aware of it, ultimately leading to the demise of both body and soul. This is the ill consequence of inheriting nothing substantial and recklessly devouring thoughts.
The second thod, however, is more cruel—devouring souls.

The transition between life and death harbors great terror, where emotions and thoughts from just before and after death are most intense and dense, still lingering within the soul.
