Chapter 1501: Chapter 287 Collaborators
“At the ti, I needed soone to do a favor, but I couldn’t find a candidate and it was really irritating. Given your understanding of , you should know that when I encounter trouble, I don’t have the patience to sit and space out like you do; I always have to find sothing to do. So, I went to spy on Catherine’s life first. After finding no changes, I went to the Temple of Danacus to check on the status of his followers,” Nellie thought for a mont and then added, “I don’t think I’ve ntioned this to you before; although I’m not Danacus, it seems that after the first successful communication with those followers, I’ve been able to observe his entire temple through his statue. I tried observing several tis before but didn’t get much. That ti, however, I happened to see Philarx among the temple, mingling with Danacus’s worshippers.”
“Did he also visit there more than three years ago?” Pannis humd heavily, grumbling, “He intentionally kept it from , it seems. He must be worried that I would deduce sothing because of it, that bastard.”
“I was curious and surprised and couldn’t understand why he was in contact with those worshippers,” Nellie recalled the situation and said, “I really wanted to confront him right then and there for the truth, but he isn’t my follower, so communication was impossible. Moreover, he was always accompanied by other Undead Mages, so even if communication were possible, there would be no chance. Later, after listening to their conversation, I learned about the things Philarx had done and felt very angry. Nevertheless, the mutual use relationship reassured slightly—at least they were just using each other and not truly colluding. I definitely don’t think fighting a forr comrade-in-arms would be a fun thing, and his strength is undoubtedly great. Initially, it was just a coincidence, and I wasn’t planning on asking for his help. I never liked him, and knowing what he’s done, it’s even harder for to feel kindly toward him. I had no intention of seeking help from such a person, but when he was leaving, he seed to notice that I was spying and repeatedly gestured in code without any communication partners.”
“Heh, looks like that bastard still rembers the experiences we had on the Perpetual Icefield,” Pannis sneered in anger, but was actually caught in nostalgia, murmuring softly, “The gestures you’re referring to, they’re the ones we agreed upon back then, right?”
“Yes, those gestures,” Nellie nodded, “It’s precisely because of those gestures that I believed he had discovered . Under those circumstances, I was the only one who could be there. But even now, I can’t figure out how he noticed ; it’s almost impossible.”
“That I don’t know, that bastard is shrouded in mystery now,” Pannis muttered, curling his lip, “Besides, it’s not like we could ask him now. Of course, even if we could, I bet he wouldn’t answer directly, but would probably say sothing like ‘I saw you,’ or so other such nonsense.”
“You really do know him. That’s exactly what he said,” Nellie chuckled covertly and continued, “His actions forced to not ignore him, so I decided to take a risk and make contact.”
“Wait.” Pannis interrupted Nellie, “What was the gesture he gave you that made you actually consider taking the risk to contact him?”
“Assistance.” Sign language communication is often very simple; an inconspicuous gesture can represent a simple but clear aning, like what Nellie ntioned, “It wasn’t a plea for help, but an offer of assistance.”
“So you’re saying he volunteered to help you?” Pannis asked, “Even when he shouldn’t even have been aware of your existence, he offered to assist you?”
“Strange, right? I found it strange myself,” Nellie spread her hands helplessly, “That’s why I decided to take the risk and make contact.”
“Aren’t you worried he was cooperating with those moribund creatures?” Pannis asked with a frown, “You’re trying to deceive those followers of Danacus; what if they’re suspicious and worried that you’re impersonating behind the scenes, so they invited Philarx to test you?”
“There’s certainly that possibility, but given Philarx’s pride, even if he wanted to deal with , he would choose a direct confrontation rather than using such sches,” Nellie shook her head, “On the other hand, if he isn’t deceiving and truly intends to support , then the help I can get will be trendous. Compared to that, the reward far outweighs the risk, so it’s worth the danger of being discovered.”
“I can’t deny that,” Pannis nodded and gestured please, “So you went to find him? Using the bodies of those six loyal followers of yours?”
“At first, I thought I misunderstood because Philarx showed no sign of wanting to contact . After he finished his own business, those Undead Mages escorted him out of the Core Area of Forest of Death, and then his students took over in the Lost Forest, rushing him back to his Mage Tower using a series of prearranged temporary Teleportation Arrays in the shortest ti. But I had bigger trouble; I couldn’t enter bustling areas. It was fine in the forest, but beyond that, movent beca very difficult, plus your sister had set up a barrier in the Whispering Swamp to sense Undead, deliberately causing trouble. Fortunately, one of my six followers liked to wander around the Perpetual Icefield, so after seeking his help, I managed to sneak into the capital of that guy’s territory in a relatively short ti. Not long after entering the city, one of his students approached , a red-robed Mage called… what was his na, again?”
“Red-robed Felic, if I rember correctly,” Pannis said, “One of Philarx’s two most trusted students.”
“Might be that na, I don’t quite rember,” Nellie said indifferently, “He told Philarx had returned and was waiting for , and then took to see that guy at his Magic Tower.”
“Hmm, I have a question,” Pannis looked at Nellie with suspicion, “Could you talk at the ti?”
“Of course, I could. Skeletons can’t talk, but I’m not really a skeleton; I’m just using a vessel,” Nellie gave Pannis a disdainful look, “As long as there’s a vessel to carry my will, I can emit sound with my spirit even if the vessel is just a tree.”
“Alright, alright, I don’t really get it,” Pannis shrugged, “It seems that from that ti, Philarx already showed signs of his current state.”
