After the red carpet fiasco, both Wang Jian and Catherine, sitting in the award hall, were a bit distracted.
Catherine glanced at the actresses in evening gowns intermittently, then looked down at herself.
And Wang Jian, with a vacant gaze, stared at the stage, his mind spinning wildly.
"All those photos from earlier, they won’t get published, will they?"
"Even if they do get published, I probably won’t be in them. After all, I’m no celebrity!"
"But, if by so chance they do get published..."
"Damn it! I shouldn’t have co!"
However, the thoughts and feelings of a rookie producer and a novice director had absolutely no impact on the ongoing award ceremony.
At this point, the second to last award was being presented on stage.
"Nominated for Best Actor are: ’Friends’, Ross; ’Seinfeld’, Seinfeld; ’X-Files’, David; ’Prison Break’, Miller."
As a few sharp drumbeats sounded, presenter George Clooney feigned a secretive glance at the envelope.
"And the winner is: David Schwimr, the actor who plays Ross in ’Friends’."
"Ah, it’s a wasted trip, not a single award won." Wang Jian absentmindedly clapped twice, then patted Miller on the shoulder to console him.
Miller, nominated for the first ti, felt a bit dejected at first.
But when he felt a pat on his shoulder, he turned to look at Wang Jian out of courtesy, and then...
Almost burst out laughing.
"I must say, the quality of newcors nowadays is getting higher and higher," said the host, taking the microphone from the award-winning David Schwimr.
"Young actors, being nominated for the first ti, often can’t help but show their disappointnt."
He pointed to the big screen behind him, "But look at our Miller, he’s truly happy for the winner’s success!"
The audience in the hall turned their gaze towards the ’Prison Break’ crew.
Once they clearly saw Miller and Wang Jian behind him, they let out a knowing chuckle almost in unison.
"When I beco a famous producer, everyone present will have to streak for ," Wang Jian said coolly, continuing to clap, "But then, what kind of nickna would Aricans give ?"
"’Naked Man,’ perhaps?"
Soon, the host’s joking passed.
"Next, please welco Hollywood’s famous actor, Rachel’s real-life boyfriend, Brad Pitt, to present the ’Audience’s Favorite TV Series Award.’"
It has to be said, there’s a completely different concept between Hollywood film stars and television actors.
David Schwimr and Brad Pitt, both well-known actors, receive quite different levels of applause.
"Nominated for the most popular TV series are: CBS, ’Friends’; CBS, ’Seinfeld’; NBC, ’New Superman Story’; CBS, ’Prison Break.’"
Although this award has the highest value and the biggest impact on the video tape market, neither Catherine nor Wang Jian had high hopes for it.
Judging by the current situation, ’Friends’ would be the biggest winner of the "soap opera awards," set to sweep Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Script, Best Music, and Most Popular - all five major awards.
Perhaps Brad Pitt, too, found the suspense a bit too contrived.
He didn’t play it up like George Clooney, but went straight to opening the envelope.
"And the winner of the Audience’s Favorite TV Series Award is," Brad Pitt’s face showed a mont of astonishnt, "CBS..."
By then, Jennifer Aniston, who portrayed Rachel in ’Friends’, had already stood up, ready to head to the stage and share a mont of affection with her boyfriend.
But as Brad Pitt finished speaking, her facial expression collapsed.
Because, his boyfriend read out: "Prison Break."
Hmm?
"Prison Break"?
No mistake?
Including the four lead actors, Catherine, and Wang Jian, for a mont, everyone was a bit slow to react.
Not until the "ER" crew ca over to congratulate them did everyone truly believe that they had won the award.
"Wang, are you going up?" Catherine asked excitedly, pointing to the stage.
"You go, I didn’t prepare an acceptance speech," Wang Jian said absentmindedly, waving his hand.
Because the producer of "ER" had just quietly said to him, "Mr. Wang, this is abc’s welco gift to you."
This female director, nearly thirty, gave Wang Jian a fierce kiss, disregarding how it looked, and then happily went up to the stage to accept the award.
anwhile, the stars of various TV dramas looked back and forth between Catherine on the stage and the direction of the "Prison Break" crew.
Almost all of them seed to be deep in thought.
"Is it really ’Prison Break’?" Joey’s actor muttered softly, "They didn’t do any promotion, did they?"
"Hmph. There’s sothing fishy!" Aniston said a bit angrily, "I heard this show was recomnded by Goldman Sachs."
"It must be Goldman Sachs putting pressure on CBS, damn Wall Street!"
"That’s impossible," the "Friends" producer shook his head, "CBS may have shares from Goldman Sachs, but like the major dia conglorates, it’s always been wary of Wall Street."
"Besides, playing on the sa network, they have no reason to suppress ’Friends,’ which is even more popular!"
"Yet, the ’Prison Break’ crew, including the leads, director, and writers, are all newcors."
"Otherwise, we couldn’t have possibly sabotaged their Best Actor."
"The producer, though?" Monica asked.
"That guy’s a tough call," the key figure of "Friends," currently the most highly-valued screenwriter on the market, shook his head.
"He cos from a bestselling author background and is friends with Stephen King, George Martin, and others."
"He also has so connections with EA and Dark Horse Comics."
"How old is he?" Phoebe’s actor asked, looking toward Wang Jian in surprise.
"18 years old." The screenwriter also looked over and exchanged a mock toast with Wang Jian, who was looking back.
"And crucially, this guy has certain connections with HBO, AT&T, Nokia, and Apple."
"If soone over there has the clout to play an angle, it’d be him."
"So..." David Schwimr pondered for a mont, "after the awards, should we go over and say hello?"
"After all, poking fun at a junior can be seen as friendly. But there’s no need to mock soone with substantial influence."
"I’m not going," Aniston said, picking up her glass and taking a sip, "What do Apple and Nokia have to do with show business?"
"In the entertainnt industry, his power might not even match Pitt’s!"
Just like the "Friends" cast, there was no shortage of crews discussing quietly amongst themselves.
And there were also quite a few people who agreed with David Schwimr and Aniston.
"In conclusion, I want to give a huge thanks to the producer of ’Prison Break,’ Mr. Wang Jian," Catherine said, looking toward the audience, "It was your trust that helped us achieve what we did today."
