"A re Tongsheng dares to make my Liu Family lose face." Liu Yan glared at a small courtyard, his face contorted with a twisted expression.

After receiving information from the Prefect, he quickly drew up a list of nas.

One by one, he went on a killing spree. Using his Spirit Law to ambush, every kill was precise.

After completing the list, he planned to leave Zhenhai City, seek scholarly honors and fa, and then slowly deal with the Prefect and the Great Families.

Liu Yan, of course, knew that the information the Prefect had provided was far from complete; those ntioned were either from collateral branches, lacked influential backgrounds, or had insufficient Potential. The worst off was Wang Linchi, who had no connections at all.

However, Liu Yan didn’t care. For him, revenge was the priority; it didn’t matter to him who died.

He leaped over the courtyard wall and ca face to face with Wang Linchi.

"A thief?" Wang Linchi muttered under his breath.

Liu Yan felt insulted by this but quickly composed himself. He looked disdainfully at Wang Linchi and said, "So it’s you, the one who ruined my younger brother’s plan to beco famous?"

"Your younger brother? Oh, so you’re that last surviving whelp of the Liu Family, huh?" Wang Linchi insulted him without hesitation.

The re thought of them using him as a stepping stone! Did they really think he was a pushover?

The words "last surviving whelp" instantly turned Liu Yan’s complexion an ugly shade.

"I was originally going to give you a quick death, but now you’ll pay the price for your reckless words!" Liu Yan said coldly.

"Hah, you co to kill , yet I’m not allowed to curse you? The Liu Family mbers are truly overbearing," Wang Linchi retorted. This fellow has probably gone mad. The shock must have been too much for him.

"You’re just like them—your arrogant father and your clueless younger brother. All cut from the sa cloth."

"By the way, do you want to know how they died? Let tell you, they..." Wang Linchi prattled on, deliberately provoking Liu Yan.

His deanor was quite like that of a villain.

"You deserve to die!!!" Liu Yan, his composure shattered, unhesitatingly unleashed a Spirit Law attack at Wang Linchi.

However, the Saint Master instantly neutralized his Spirit Law.

Where did this monster co from? Why hadn’t I sensed his presence? Liu Yan’s face was filled with disbelief.

"That’s right. Your father had the sa expression when he died, just before his spine was ripped out along with his head," Wang Linchi said chillingly.

At these words, Liu Yan’s eyes turned bloodshot.

"It was you!!!" Liu Yan roared, madly trying to break free from the Saint Master, but he was easily pinned down.

Just as he tried to speak again, the Saint Master tore out his tongue and shattered his teeth.

"And that’s not all. After he died, his corpse was stuffed into a latrine pit," Wang Linchi whispered, stepping closer.

Liu Yan struggled violently, his eyes glaring as if he wanted to flay Wang Linchi alive.

"I really don’t like that look in your eyes. It makes uncomfortable," Wang Linchi said. The Saint Master imdiately gouged out Liu Yan’s eyes. Wang Linchi continued, "Oh, by the way, I also killed your entire family."

"MMPH!!!"

Liu Yan’s struggles grew even more frantic. He truly hadn’t expected the truth to be like this.

"Cough... His Majesty... will... avenge !" Liu Yan, overco with rage, spat out a large mouthful of blood and mumbled indistinctly. Without his tongue, his words were distorted.

But it didn’t matter; Wang Linchi understood.

"A nice thought, but who will ever know where you died?" Wang Linchi retorted dismissively.

A madman out for revenge like him, how could he possibly tell anyone his killing plans and sequence?

The Saint Master then crushed Liu Yan’s head, killing him instantly.

"The arrogance of the Great Families... I’ve truly witnessed it this ti." Wang Linchi had no fondness for these so-called Great Families.

What’s wrong with being from humble origins? Which family, if you trace it back far enough, wasn’t started by common folk? Creatures that need to maintain a ’noble bloodline’ are just pets.

After looting the corpse, Wang Linchi found quite a few items on Liu Yan.

"Imperial Guards?" Wang Linchi found a small, special object. Others might not recognize it, but he had seen one before.

Old Li from the shop next door had one. It was a discreet token representing the status and official rank within the Imperial Guards; most people wouldn’t know what it was even if they saw it.

No wonder he was so arrogant. So he joined the Imperial Guards. He must be highly favored and cultivated by the current Emperor Jing; otherwise, how could he dare claim the Emperor would avenge him?

Wang Linchi casually crushed the small object into a ball, then ground it into fragnts, ready to be thrown out with the trash.

Why keep sothing like this? I can’t use it, and it would only attract trouble.

Additionally, he found a small, exquisite brocade box sealed with beeswax on Liu Yan’s body.

"Could this be so kind of fortuitous opportunity?" Wang Linchi mused. It seed quite possible.

Otherwise, it’s unlikely he would deliberately co here to get himself killed. The Liu Family’s fortuitous opportunity probably lies in this.

He opened the brocade box without hesitation. Inside lay a black, bone-like sphere. It felt like charred bone to the touch.

Commonly known as a Shariputra.

Wang Linchi quickly discerned so details about this unique Shariputra. It seems to have been contaminated by sothing, but the Calamity of the Last Law eradicated the contamination, leaving only an empty shell.

"Strange, it has no effect," he muttered.

Upon closer inspection, he saw nurous patterns on it, apparently so kind of script. Various texts floated through his mind as he began to translate it.

"Tai, thirty-first year of Zhengyuan. Monk Jipu suppressed a Devil here with his own body."

Tai referred to the Tai Dynasty, the one preceding the Jing Dynasty.

This ant that a monk nad Jipu had used his own body to suppress an entity called ’Devil’ here.

"A monk? A Devil?" Wang Linchi was montarily baffled. What on earth is this?

The historical discontinuity was too severe, leaving Wang Linchi completely unable to understand the situation.

"Was the discontinuity caused by the Devil?" Wang Linchi pondered.

So, does ’monk’ refer to the Spirit Masters of the previous dynasty? And the Devil... is it so kind of invasive species or enemy that couldn’t adapt to the environnt after the Calamity of the Last Law and thus disappeared? In that case, what use would this be to the Emperor? Is he seeking the power of the Devil, or the monk? If it’s the forr, that sounds like courting death.

Wang Linchi knew that the current Emperor of Dajing was an unparalleled genius. Young, but imnsely capable, he had already obtained the Jinshi rank before ascending the throne. Even more remarkably, he possessed three hundred and sixty-five Spirit Bones; only his Spirit Vein was slightly lacking, asuring just nine zhang and eight chi.

It was due to such qualifications and skill that he was able to secure the throne.

After nearly three months of debate over ceremonial rites, he successfully elevated his deceased biological parents to the status of Forr Emperor and Empress. Then, he began to implent reforms throughout the Dajing Dynasty to strengthen the nation. Wang Linchi had also sensed so of these changes.

However, these feelings were just that; they had little to do with him. The reforms targeted the upper echelons, naly the Great Families. Wang Linchi was at the bottom, hardly affected.

As for reforming the Spirit Masters, Emperor Jing wouldn’t dare to dig up his own roots.

He put away the Demon Suppression Relic. This thing might be a prerequisite for so future fortuitous encounter. Or perhaps it is the fortuitous encounter itself, and I just haven’t realized it yet. Once I get to the Capital, perhaps I can trigger sothing further. At worst, I can look up information in the Capital. Even if it’s completely useless, I can keep it as a souvenir.

"Speaking of Devils, including this one, that makes three kinds now, doesn’t it?" Wang Linchi felt that the variety of these beings was getting a bit much.

The Heavenly Demon from the first world, the Abyssal Demons from the second world, and now this naless Devil popping up in this world... Alright, the issue probably lies with the word ’Devil’ itself.

「On the other side, the Saint Master leisurely returned after disposing of Liu Yan’s body.」

After a complete funeral service, Liu Yan’s final resting place was the sa as his father’s.

With this, the Liu Family was utterly exterminated.

Things definitely won’t be so simple from now on. An Imperial Guard has gone missing, and one who was on a mission for Emperor Jing, no less. The Capital will surely send people to investigate. Of course, they wouldn’t be coming to avenge Liu Yan; it’s more likely they want to retrieve this Demon Suppression Relic.

Wang Linchi wasn’t worried. They wouldn’t be able to find him, nor did they have any reason to suspect him. An investigation was possible, but anything more was unlikely.

Even if there was more, I’m not afraid. If they can find , then they’re truly capable. If they resort to force, then they can’t bla for blowing up the Imperial Palace.
