[Vol. 6] Chapter 157: Journey Toward the Scorching Sea
“Two destinies?”
Violet pondered Yanzi’s words, her expression thoughtful.
“What exactly do you an by ‘destinies’? Can you explain it in more detail?”
“So, Miss Dawn doesn’t rember this either? I get it now. I guess this is what they an by ‘clean slate’.”
“Hey, if you don’t know how to comfort soone, it’s okay not to force it,” Violet said, lifting her mask slightly to glance at Yanzi with a calm but pointed gaze.
The twin-braided girl gave an awkward laugh and quickly changed the topic.
“Ahem. What I an by ‘destinies’ is the exclusive, unique power that naturally manifests when a living being reaches the realm of [Hidden Immortal].”
“Although you’re the only true saint I’ve ever encountered, I rember you once told that only by forming a destiny unique to oneself can a living being break free from the shackles of mortality and ascend, transforming into an immortal.”
“So, in essence, a destiny is the most critical core of any saint. In a way, it represents their defining traits and abilities. Does that make sense?”
“Ah, I see…”
She’s talking about [Divinity], isn’t she?
But… I have two [Divinities] now? That doesn’t make sense.
Violet mused over this, summoning her personal “Character Panel”, visible only to her, for a closer look. After a mont of review, she lowered her mask again and double-checked.
This “panel”, a mysterious function that had been with her ever since she had been isekai’d, had always provided her with basic information about herself. While it wasn’t particularly useful beyond showing her stats and the ti, it did reflect her current state and equipped items in real ti.
Her brows furrowed slightly as she contemplated the implications of what she had just heard. Two destinies or two [Divinities], shouldn’t have been possible… or should they?
Even though [Divinity] is supposed to be a unique, singular attribute, if Violet truly had two, it should have been clearly reflected on her character panel. Yet, as things stood, the panel continued to display only her sole [Divinity], [Radiance], even while she was wearing the [Dominion of the Fox Mask].
What went wrong?
Forget it.
Regardless, Yanzi’s sudden appearance, though unexpected and revealing secrets few knew, wasn’t entirely a bad thing for Violet.
With Yanzi around, Violet might gain more insights into [Dawn]’s past. If Yanzi’s apparent reverence was indeed genuine, Violet could even consider working with her in the future.
“For now, there are still plenty of things I’d like to discuss with you, but to avoid staying too long and raising suspicions, let’s pause here for today. Yanzi, calling you that is fine, right? Since we’ve t by chance, I plan to join your group as we head into the [Endless Wasteland Sea], but my identity…”
The twin-braided girl lowered her head respectfully.
“My lady, I understand. But I must also ask you not to disclose my identity from before my rebirth to anyone untrustworthy. Though the era of [Xuan Shu] has been over for a thousand years, it’s possible a few remnants of my family line still exist. To date, you’re the only one I’ve shared this secret with. Not even my partners in the current plan know.”
“Your other partners, huh… Alright, we’ll talk more about this when we have the chance. For now, let’s head back.”
“As you wish.”
……………………………
The next day, Violet and her group, along with mbers of the [Shocking God Sect], with whom they had temporarily allied, arrived at the entrance to the [Endless Wasteland Sea] in Xinchuan County.
Of course, the term “entrance” was more taphorical than literal. The reality was far more complicated than the na suggested.
“Are you sure… we can really enter the [Endless Wasteland Sea] from here?” Violet asked, surveying the scene with skepticism.
The [Shocking God Sect]’s top disciple, Shangguan Hong, stepped forward to address the black-haired girl’s curiosity and doubts.
“I can only say there’s a chance,” he replied. “The [Endless Wasteland Sea] isn’t part of our world. It exists as a completely separate realm outside the [Ancient Spirit Realm].”
“The intersection between that realm and ours is sporadic and unpredictable. It manifests in a nearly random manner throughout the Xinchuan County region. This ti, the elders of the [Shocking God Sect] calculated the location of the intersection in advance, which is why we ca here early to wait.”
“Ah…”
The two groups, comprising over ten people in total, now stood at the base of a low hill with an elevation of no more than 500 ters.
Hills and slopes like this were a common sight in Xinchuan County, blending seamlessly into the landscape. If not for Shangguan Hong and his companions identifying the spot, no one would have guessed that the legendary entrance to the [Endless Wasteland Sea] could appear in such an ordinary place.
Moreover, Violet quickly noticed that their group wasn’t the only one waiting nearby.
Scanning the area, she saw scattered individuals and small groups standing deliberately apart from one another. So groups had more than ten mbers, while others consisted of just a few people or even lone wanderers.
Unobtrusively, Violet made an assessnt.
There must be at least a hundred people here. And this entrance at the hill’s base surely isn’t the only potential entry point in the area.
What exactly is here that draws so many people from far and wide?
As Violet casually voiced her doubts, Shangguan Hong and the others from the [Shocking God Sect] exchanged odd looks.
“Miss Violet, you’ve co for the [Endless Wasteland Sea] as well. Are you saying you haven’t heard its legends?”
“Legends?”
Glancing at the silver-haired girl beside her, Violet noticed that her companion showed no intention of explaining, maintaining a calm and detached deanor. Left with no choice, Violet gave a vague and noncommittal response.
“Our goals are just a little different…” Violet replied lightly.
“Well, Miss Violet,” Shangguan Hong began, compelled to provide further explanation. “According to legend, the [Endless Wasteland Sea] was personally created by the [Spirit Fox Shrine Maiden]. It exists as a domain outside the realms of both the living world and the underworld. Essentially, a non-existent area.”
“That place is one of the few mystical realms confird to exist and closely tied to the [Spirit Veil Saint Immortal]. It is said to potentially hold artifacts or even the legacy left behind by the [Spirit Fox Shrine Maiden] herself. This alone is enough to draw powerful individuals from across the world to seek it out.”
As he explained, Shangguan Hong cast a slightly surprised glance at the twin-braided girl beside him, Yanzi. He hadn’t expected her, typically reserved and quiet, to speak so much in soone else’s stead. Yet, recalling how they’d just witnessed this seemingly young but remarkably skilled and mysterious figure rescue them, he quickly understood her willingness to explain.
Shangguan Hong nodded in agreent and continued, “Though there’s no definitive proof that the [Spirit Fox Shrine Maiden] personally created the [Endless Wasteland Sea], reports from a few survivors who returned from the area suggest a strong connection to the Spirit Veil Saint Immortal. So even claim to have obtained incredible treasures and secret techniques from there.”
“Because of this… even though the survival rate for those entering the [Endless Wasteland Sea] is less than 30%, many are still willing to take the risk, hoping to find fortune there. After all, if soone were to truly acquire the wealth left behind by the [Spirit Fox Shrine Maiden], even a fragnt of it, it could help elevate their power to the pinnacle.”
Another disciple of the [Shocking God Sect] chid in, their tone filled with unmistakable admiration and longing.
“Exactly. The [Spirit Fox Shrine Maiden] isn’t just a mythical saint. She’s said to be the true guardian of the [Ancient Spirit Realm] and the one who ferries souls of the deceased. Though no inheritance or trace of her has been confird, it’s believed she left her legacy in hidden and unreachable places, like the [Endless Wasteland Sea].”
“That’s the kind of power that transcends life and death, surpassing the boundaries of yin and yang. Who wouldn’t long for such strength?”
