[Vol. 6] Chapter 156: Two Destinies

“We were so worried about you, my lady. We hated our own helplessness, unable even to lend you a hand. All we could do was watch as you faced that terrifying enemy alone…”

“Ever since the plan began, I’ve been filled with regret over my weakness. Everything we tried was in vain, and we thought there was no way you could return… But now, you’re finally back. It’s wonderful, truly wonderful…”

The young girl before her poured out her feelings, tears streaming down her face. The priestess silently listened, moved by the girl’s genuine sincerity.

To be honest, even after encountering [Dawn]’s past and existence, Violet couldn’t help but marvel again and again at her extraordinary status in the [Ancient Spirit Realm]. It left her speechless.

Whether it was Yanzi or Xuan Shu, Violet wasn’t entirely sure how they managed to survive the calamity a thousand years ago and erge anew in this era. But this strong-willed and deeply calculating individual now stood before her, nearly breaking down in tears.

All of this was simply because Yanzi had realized the possibility of Violet being the [Spirit Fox Shrine Maiden].

This wasn’t sothing that could be faked or acted out. It was raw, unfiltered emotion. To the point that Violet couldn’t bear to say such a heartless word as “You’ve got the wrong person, I’m not her” to shatter the young girl’s only hope and salvation.

What a truly… sinful woman.

“Ha…”

Violet let out a soft sigh, barely audible, shaking her head as she responded honestly yet enigmatically to Yanzi.

“While I’d like to nod in agreent here, I’m afraid I can’t give you an answer that will fully satisfy you.”

“Believe or not, the truth is, I have no mory of what happened a thousand years ago… not even of our shared past. It’s only in recent years that my consciousness has reawakened.”

“What… did you say…?”

The previously tearful girl with twin braids froze as if struck by lightning. Her expression stiffened, and she stared in disbelief, scanning the priestess from head to toe before locking onto Violet’s clear, sincere silver-blue eyes.

“My lady, are you saying… you’ve lost your mory? But how could that be? You’re the [Spirit Fox Shrine Maiden]!”

Scratching her head, the black-haired girl let out a helpless sigh.

“Lost my mory? From your perspective, it might seem that way. But from my point of view, I don’t feel like my mory is missing anything.”

“There are certain secrets involved that I can’t share due to privacy concerns, but the truth is, I don’t recall ever crossing paths with Xuan Shu. I’m sorry if that disappoints you. If it helps, let’s pretend this conversation never happened. We can keep each other’s secrets and move on with no debts owed. How does that sound?”

“How… could this… be…?”

Yanzi murmured, seemingly unable to process the shocking revelation. Yet she quickly snapped back to her senses.

“So, Violet isn’t an alias you made up to hide your identity, my lady?”

“Of course not,” Violet replied without hesitation, shaking her head. “I only recently learned about the grand title of ‘[Spirit Fox Shrine Maiden]’ myself.”

“Phew…”

After a long mont, the girl with twin braids finally seed to process the staggering truth. Her expression shifted into one of deep thought.

“I think I understand now. No wonder you orchestrated so many things and why I couldn’t find any trace of you for so long afterward. You weren’t dead, nor did you cease to exist. Even the heavens couldn’t reveal your fate. But if it’s you, my lady, this makes sense… rising from death to life… could it really be?”

“Forgive if this sounds presumptuous, my lady, but… could you let see your true form? I an the appearance that the world knows you by. While I’ve seen your true appearance, my current powers are far from fully restored. Only by encountering a more direct clue can I see so useful insights.”

“I believe this would also hold aning and value for you.”

“Divination again, is it…? Seems like you’re determined not to give up. Very well…”

Violet nodded. Under the twin-braided girl’s hopeful and eager gaze, she gently donned the [Dominion of the Fox Mask], transforming into her white-haired, fox-eared shrine maiden form.

“My lady…!”

The mont Yanzi saw that familiar figure again, tears welled up uncontrollably in her eyes, streaming down her cheeks. She wiped them away hastily, trying to restrain her overwhelming urge to embrace Violet. Trembling slightly, she extended her hand but only dared to place it lightly on the smooth, delicate palm of the Miss White Fox.

“Ah… my lady. Forgive if I’ve been disrespectful…”

*Sigh.*

Violet let out a soft sigh in her heart. She didn’t shake off the girl’s hand but stayed on guard as the faint, fruit-like scent accompanying Yanzi’s power began to flow into her body.

There was no doubt that the girl, who called herself Xuan Shu but now went by Yanzi, was using her own unique thod to perform divination. Though the process seed even more abstract than what Violet had experienced with the ‘Divination’ before, handling soone who might have been a trusted ally of the Spirit Fox Shrine Maiden and offering appropriate guidance wasn’t impossible.

After all, Violet was no longer who she had been in the past. Her understanding of forces that influenced causality and the future had deepened considerably. If Yanzi intended to use this opportunity to do harm, Violet would sense it imdiately and be ready to strike back without hesitation.

Fortunately, the worst-case scenarios Violet had imagined did not co to pass. The energy transmitted from Yanzi’s hand was not chaotic. It lingered montarily at the point of contact between them before retreating back into Yanzi’s body. She then withdrew her hand entirely.

“That’s enough, my lady,” Yanzi said.

“That’s it? Your thods of divination seem to get more and more casual,” Violet remarked with a faint smirk.

Yanzi responded with a wry smile. “My lady, you’re the [Spirit Fox Shrine Maiden]. The forces of causality intertwined with you are vast and overwhelming. Even when I was at my peak, Xuan Shu would never dare to pry too deeply into your fate. What I just did was rely a small, careful verification.”

“So, what did you find?”

At that, Yanzi’s expression grew serious.

“Since you’ve lost your mories, my lady, you likely don’t rember the [Hidden Fate Divination Technique], a secret art you personally taught . I’ll explain it in simpler terms instead,” she began.

“There are currently two distinct and seemingly opposing yet interconnected destinies entwined around you. They’ve sohow rged in a way I cannot fully comprehend. This might be the reason for your prolonged slumber and mory loss…”

“Though I only glimpsed a small fragnt of this, both destinies are imnsely powerful. One appears to stem from your original abilities, while the other is… hard to define.”

“This situation is unprecedented in my knowledge. I can’t determine whether it’s good or bad, nor predict how it might affect your body. But based on what I know of you, my lady, this might… have been your own design.”

“It’s possible that your forr self foresaw all of this. If that’s the case, there’s no need to be overly concerned.”
