He suddenly rembered that during their brief two-year marriage, there was one ti she pleaded with him, and he seed to have said the exact sa words.

Back then, they had been married for over a year, and his mother was urging them to have children. But Elara’s belly remained silent, no movent at all. His mother went to great lengths to find a Chinese doctor for prescriptions, making her brew a bitter black dicinal soup daily. During that ti, Elara always carried a light dicinal scent.

Although she tried several tis to discuss not wanting to drink those herbal dicines anymore, he didn’t take it to heart. In this world, what woman doesn’t have children? What’s wrong with a mother wanting to hold a grandson in her old age?

Later, when the Chinese dicine proved ineffective, his mother began looking for folk redies through various connections, trying one prescription after another. Elara was in great pain and begged him to go to the hospital for a check-up, just in case it was his health causing the problem.

That day, he flew into a rage, scolding her for not understanding his mother’s good intentions, accusing her of attempting to shirk responsibility. It was the first major argunt since they got married.

The matter escalated until Elara yielded and silently accepted those bitter dicinal soups again. But a thorn remained in his heart; whenever a prescription was ineffective, he couldn’t help but recall Elara’s words - what if it’s his health causing the problem?

So he decided to speed up the process of having a child. Since natural conception wasn’t working, they would resort to artificial insemination and an IVF procedure.

The costs of the IVF procedure didn’t matter to the Jacobs Family; he could arrange for Elara to undergo the procedure at the world’s best organization, ensuring minimal harm to her body.

Yet, Elara, for so unknown reason, refused to agree. She cried and begged him not to proceed with the IVF; she said she was afraid of the pain, frightened by the thought of a long, thick tube being inserted into her body.

He only thought she was being lodramatic.

He said, "Elara, if you’re asking for help, you need to have the right attitude. Since you can’t conceive, doing IVF is perfectly justified. Why don’t you give birth to one and show ?"

Elara remained silent.

Eventually, she did undergo IVF. But for so unknown problem, it didn’t succeed in the end.

After that, Cece returned from abroad, completely captivating his heart; thoughts of having children fell by the wayside.

Unexpectedly, in just a year, he heard Elara utter the exact sa words.

He looked at Elara, his gaze deep and intense, "I know, between us, you’ve always blad ..."

Before he finished speaking, Elara interrupted him. She shook her head, her tone as gentle as always, yet her bright eyes were filled with determination, "Mason Jacobs, you’re wrong. I’ve never blad you. Now, I only feel that between us, it’s all even."

Yes, it’s all even. In the most difficult tis, you reached out to help , thus, in this marriage, if you’ve made mistakes, I won’t bla you. I grant you freedom.

But I don’t owe you anything anymore either.

Mason Jacobs looked at the woman before him, appearing serene, and inexplicably felt a tightness in his chest, as if sothing was uncontrollably leaving him.

He closed his eyes, forcing this laughable feeling away, then resolutely looked at Elara, "I just asked you to help introduce Attorney White, and you insist on pushing so far?"

Elara curved her lips slightly, "Mr. Jacobs, I’ve already told you, I’ll relay the ssage. If he wants to et you, I’ll let you know. You’re the one who’s dragging into this with irrelevant words."

Mason Jacobs felt inexplicably blocked inside. Today had truly been an eye-opener; he never realized his ex-wife was such a sharp-tongued person.

Just as he was about to say sothing else, his phone rang. It was Cecilia calling. He answered, hearing Cecilia’s shy voice, "Brother Mason, I have good news to tell you. Where are you? Can you co back?"

Intentionally calming himself, Mason Jacobs said, "I’m at the office. Whatever it is, we can talk when I’m back tonight..."

Before finishing his sentence, Cecilia said, "Brother Mason, I... I’m pregnant..."

"Pregnant with what..." Mason Jacobs’ words suddenly halted, his eyes flashing with delight, "What did you say? You’re pregnant? Are you sure? When did this happen?"

Cecilia’s voice was small and shy, "I haven’t had much appetite the past few days, so I casually tested. It’s two bars... I haven’t gone to the hospital for a blood test yet; I wanted you to accompany ..."

Mason Jacobs promptly replied, "Wait for , I’m coming back now."

After hanging up, he didn’t look at Elara, hurriedly leaving.

Elara stood there, watching his retreating figure, and after a mont, laughed self-mockingly.

She and Mason Jacobs didn’t conceive in two years, while Cecilia was pregnant so quickly. It really must be that she can’t bear children.

However... they’ve already divorced. Not having children is just not having children; after all, she’s not planning to enter another marriage.

Back at her workstation, she told Brandon about Mason Jacobs wanting to connect with him. She wasn’t genuinely trying to help Mason Jacobs but felt that Jacobs Corporation was a good platform for Brandon, a novice lawyer.

No matter how much she disliked the people of the Jacobs Family, she couldn’t deny this fact.

In the afternoon, Vera was going to take her out to et a client. Elara put away her phone, refocusing her thoughts to prepare the materials.

This eting was with a famous nursing institution in Northgarde, catering to elite clients able to afford high dicine prices.

Being able to persuade the nursing institution to source dicine from their company would represent the largest order the company would secure this year.

President Ford wanted to leverage this order to get transferred into headquarters, hence, she placed great importance on this client, repeatedly instructing Elara and another salesperson, Jean Dunn, "When you et Mr. Chase later, you must put forth your most professional deanor. Don’t cause any setbacks, understand?"

Elara and Jean Dunn were sowhat made nervous by her, quickly nodding, "Understood."

Arriving at the designated location, Elara sat down as soon as she pushed the door open.

Three people from the nursing institution were present, and she recognized one of them.

Vera had already gone inside, greeting the other party courteously and warmly, shaking hands. Elara lowered her head and sat down, feeling as though there were thorns beneath her seat.

Vera took out the docunts and was about to speak, but Mr. Chase smiled and said, "President Ford, it’s rare to gather together, let’s eat first and discuss business later."

President Ford had no choice but to put the docunts away.

Mr. Chase was a middle-aged man in his forties, the purchasing manager for the nursing institution. He brought along two individuals, one was his assistant; the other he didn’t introduce, only ntioning the na Zayne Warner.

President Ford was curious, discreetly sizing him up; she saw the man in a dark blue suit, looking affluent, with facial features that weren’t refined yet exuding integrity.

She considered herself familiar with Mr. Chase; not introducing indicated the person wasn’t an assistant, coupled with the man’s wealthy appearance, President Ford didn’t dare to underestimate him.

Thus, she dedicated the second toast to him, tentatively asking, "Mr. Warner, you look unfamiliar. Are you new to the institution?"
