Elara Hale was baffled, "It’s true that I hired Brandon White as my lawyer, but he’s just an ordinary person. Miss Jacobs, you can’t just pin everything that happens with the Jacobs Family on , can you? This has nothing to do with ."
Saying this, she turned to leave, but Rosalind Jacobs bit her lip and grabbed her arm, her voice pleading, "Elara Hale, I’m begging you, help my brother this ti. Whatever condition you want, I can agree to it!"
Elara frowned at her, "This has nothing to do with conditions. What you’re saying has nothing to do with , I can’t help!"
Rosalind glared at her, "So you just don’t want to help, is that it?"
Elara felt like she was talking to a wall, just about to speak when her phone rang; it was Mason Jacobs.
She initially didn’t want to answer, but seeing that she couldn’t shake off Rosalind, she took a deep breath and picked up.
Mason’s voice ca through, "Elara, what are you doing?"
Elara was taken aback.
His tone was so gentle, it felt like a lifeti ago.
When they were in love, that’s how he used to talk to her. Later, as their feelings faded, his tone cooled. The last ti she heard Mason speak like that was towards Cecilia Quincy.
Thinking of Rosalind’s words, she understood—it must be because he needed a favor, so he was using his charm?
Elara’s heart ruffled briefly before returning to calmness, and she said to Mason, "Mr. Jacobs, if it’s convenient for you, could you co and get your sister? Miss Jacobs is inexplicably holding onto , insisting I agree to conditions I can’t possibly fulfill. I’m in a difficult spot."
Mason hesitated before asking, "Rosalind ca to find you?"
Elara gave a small affirmation.
Mason was silent for a mont before saying, "Where are you? I’ll co over."
Elara gave him the address.
After hanging up, she saw Rosalind standing with arms crossed, looking at her disdainfully, "Elara Hale, I thought you were so principled. Just a word from my brother and you give in? So you just wanted an excuse to see him?"
Elara had no words. She realized she had no desire to communicate with Rosalind at all.
Before, for Mason, she was lost in self-sacrificial devotion, never considering anything else. Now stepping out of that relationship and looking at the past rationally, she realized she had truly been crazy those two years.
Mason soon arrived, and Rosalind pouted, calling out, "Brother."
Mason’s face was expressionless, unceremoniously telling her, "Go ho."
Rosalind was taken aback, feeling wronged and confused, "Brother..."
"I told you to go ho." Mason’s gaze was icy as he looked at her, "Don’t use your foolish mind to do anything for . I’ll deal with you later!"
Rosalind looked hurt, her eyes imdiately reddened, "Brother, how can you say that about ? I’m doing this for you. Otherwise, who would co and humble themselves in front of this bitch..."
"Enough!" Mason sharply interrupted her, "Stop saying foolish things, go ho right now!"
Rosalind stomped her foot and reluctantly left.
Mason turned his head to look at Elara, feeling a stir in his heart.
Actually, Elara was just wearing a ordinary business outfit today, her hair tied up, not even wearing makeup.
Yet sohow, Mason felt that this Elara seed different from the woman in his previous impressions.
In mory, she was always wearing loungewear, looking disheveled at ho, either busy cleaning the floors or cooking, always appearing dull and unremarkable, ek and unobtrusive.
But now, Elara seed to be glowing, standing there with poise, exuding a natural confidence.
Mason suddenly rembered, yes, Elara was like this at the very beginning.
When he t her, she seed to be so kind of manager, overseeing several people. But later, she quit and returned ho to beco a full-ti housewife, gradually losing her edge.
Mason didn’t delve deeply into this thought; at that mont, he just felt a little nostalgic. Actually, over the past three years, he did harbour feelings for Elara.
When they got married, he had thought about spending a lifeti together. But, in the end, she couldn’t hold onto him.
Looking at Elara, Mason retracted his thoughts and spoke, "Elara, I had no idea Rosalind ca to find you. If I had known, I wouldn’t have let her."
Elara nodded to show she understood, then asked, "Is there anything else?"
Mason frowned, "Do you now have no patience to even say a few more words to ?"
Elara chuckled, "Mason Jacobs, do you hear what you’re saying? May I boldly ask, does Cecilia Quincy know you’re here to see ?"
"What does this have to do with Cece?" Mason’s brow furrowed as he looked at her disapprovingly, "Don’t drag Cece into everything; she’s not like you."
"Alright, she’s not like ." Elara laughed at herself, "So? Why did Mr. Jacobs co to see ?"
Mason pressed his lips together, insisting, "That lawyer nad Brandon White, I need you to introduce him to ."
Elara was taken aback, "Brandon White?"
Both Rosalind and Mason ca to her because of Brandon White, but Brandon was just an ordinary lawyer. Why go to such trouble?
Mason’s eyes were deep, and he nodded, "That’s right. I have so misunderstandings with him, so I’d like to speak with him in person."
Elara hesitated before saying, "I need to ask him first."
This was Brandon’s matter, and she wouldn’t make a decision for him.
Mason nodded, "Of course, if he’s willing, contact as soon as possible."
Elara looked at him deeply. Perhaps even he wasn’t aware that when he spoke to her, his tone was still as firm and unyielding as before.
But she was no longer anyone special to him.
"Mr. Jacobs," Elara paused for a mont before speaking, "I need to confirm with you: between us, it wasn’t a clean break, was it?"
Mason frowned, "What do you an?"
Elara replied softly, "Our separation was quite ugly. Why would you, no, why does everyone in the Jacobs Family, think I’m still the sa agreeable Elara Hale as before?"
In the past, she was at the Jacobs Family’s beck and call, obedient and understanding. But now, she wasn’t.
"Mr. Jacobs, if you need soone’s help, you should have the attitude of asking for it, don’t you think?"
Elara looked steadily at Mason, her eyes dark and bright, with sothing that could be called determination in them.
Mason’s heart suddenly skipped a beat.
