Yvette Somrs widened her eyes, glaring at her, "Are you stupid? The Jacobs Family is so wealthy, why divorce just like that without any compensation?"

She snorted, "Your dad needs thousands for rehabilitation every month, and Aidan’s school is expensive. I can’t have your lofty standards; they should pay after the divorce! Otherwise, you cover this expense!"

Elara felt a bit helpless, "Auntie Yvette, I’ve always been the one paying this money."

"That’s different. Before, you had the Jacobs Family as a backup and could afford it. Now you have nothing—how will you cover this money in the future?"

Elara could only explain, "I’ve never asked the Jacobs Family for a penny. The money I gave you over the past two years ca from my savings. There’s still a little left, and I’ll start earning soon. I promise, not a cent will be short for you."

"You’re really stupid! It would be better to save your money for Aidan’s wedding! Since you married into the family, why not take their money? You let them sleep with you for free for two years!"

Yvette Somrs was enraged, giving her a hard push.

To marry into such a good family and not get any benefit!

Elara stumbled a few steps, unable to reason with Yvette Somrs, shaking with anger, finally saying, "I got married and divorced legitimately, how was I slept with for free? I’m not selling myself!"

Yvette Somrs completely disregarded her, arrogantly saying, "Are you standing up to ? Go ahead and choke your dad to death if you can! You little brat, can’t I still handle you?"

Just then, her phone rang, and Yvette Somrs answered irritably, "Hello! Who is it?"

She suddenly changed her expression, speaking anxiously, "Don’t be angry, I’ll head over now and we can talk face to face..."

After hanging up, she gave Elara a fierce glare, "We’ll settle this later!"

Then she hurriedly left.

Once she was gone, Elara finally breathed a sigh of relief.

Three years ago, her parents were in a car accident, her mother died on the spot, and her father injured his leg. A kind neighbor introduced Yvette Somrs to her father.

Yvette Somrs had a son of her own, already in high school, and initially looked down on her father, who lost his ability to work. But then, when she heard about Elara marrying Mason Jacobs, she agreed.

Elara always knew Yvette Somrs was just after money.

But her father needed long-term care, and she couldn’t find a better option than Yvette Somrs.

She acknowledged the money motive; it was money she was supposed to give.

But she never expected Yvette Somrs to try and grab a slice from the Jacobs Family.

The Jacobs Family wielded great power in Northgarde, and commoners competing against them was like throwing eggs against a rock.

Hadn’t she suffered enough from this marriage?

Elara let out a bitter laugh and was about to leave when the tightly closed villa door suddenly opened.

Kylie Dalton stood on the high steps, arms crossed, sarcastically saying, "Now that you’re divorced, manage your family of lunatics, the Jacobs Family isn’t a garbage dump for all kinds of trash!"

She had ducked inside because she couldn’t out-argue Yvette Somrs, but now that the crazy woman left and it was just worthless Elara, she ca out to flaunt her superiority.

Elara stopped, looking at Kylie Dalton, swallowing back the "mom" she almost uttered.

In the past two years, she deeply learned a lesson: if others don’t care about you, don’t throw yourself at them warmly.

No matter how much it hurt, she didn’t show a trace on her face, "Sorry, it won’t happen again, but please mind your words, my family isn’t insane."

Not wanting to argue further, she turned and walked away.

"Stop right there!" Kylie Dalton descended from the steps, looking at her coldly, "Is this how you talk to your elders? So all the humble behavior before was an act! Once divorced, you showed your true colors!"

Elara’s hands tightened at her sides, then relaxed, the smile on her lips weak.

She laughed at her own foolishness, having been a daughter-in-law to the Jacobs Family for two years, wholeheartedly tending to her mother-in-law. Last year, when Kylie Dalton was diagnosed with a uterine fibroid and operated on, it was Elara who took care of her day and night without rest.

But in the end, what did she get?

Insults, humiliation, and ridicule.

No one in the Jacobs Family had ever respected her from start to finish.

"I’ve been true to my conscience with you."

Elara kept her eyes downcast, speaking each word calmly, almost numbed by the internal pain.

At that mont, a silver-gray sports car suddenly screeched to a stop outside the villa.

Mason Jacobs got out and approached aggressively, coldly questioning, "Elara, what are you pestering about again? Can’t you just be quiet!"

Elara was stunned for a mont, wanting to explain, but Mason Jacobs gave her no chance, unleashing a barrage of reprimands.

"These days, you’re constantly lingering around , thinking this will make change my mind? I thought you were straightforward with the divorce for Cece and , turns out it was just a delay tactic, your hypocrisy makes sick!"

The blood drained from Elara’s face, staring directly at him, her voice trembling uncontrollably with anger.

"Mason Jacobs! Do you think I’m soone who can’t let go? Yes...I once loved you, but from the mont I left the civil office, I never looked back! Why would you, without asking, humiliate like this?"

Cecilia Quincy appeared unknowingly, sighing softly, "Elara, Mason’s so excellent, it’s normal you can’t let go, but you shouldn’t trouble Auntie for sothing like this."

She then walked over to Kylie Dalton with concern, gently asking, "Auntie, are you okay? You look so pale, is it high blood pressure again?"

Kylie Dalton favored her soon-to-be daughter-in-law, who was educated and respectful. She held Cecilia Quincy’s hand, "I’m fine, just dizzy from that brat’s fuss, but seeing you makes feel better."

Cecilia Quincy apologized, "It’s because of and Mason, if we had arrived earlier, you wouldn’t have been so aggrieved."

Her voice was gentle but her words like knives, piercing Elara and branding her with unfounded guilt.

Mason Jacobs’ expression worsened, glaring at Elara, his voice icy to the bone, "Is this your goal? To enrage my mom and be satisfied?"

Elara struggled to hold back the tears.

She was tired, exhausted from the constant unjust accusations she couldn’t defend against.

In her two-year marriage, countless conversations went like this, Mason Jacobs always believed everyone but her, everyone had more standing, everyone had more right.

She only fell in love with soone, entered a marriage full of expectation, so why did it end in such disgrace?
