That one declaration sent a wave of unease rippling through the crowd.

"A human?!"

"Are you sure ciit?! Humans are eating us now?! How dreadful ciit!"

"I’m sure!" The gray mouse shuddered in horror as it recounted its harrowing experience. "The human eyed with such hunger ciit. They even licked their lips as if they couldn’t wait to swallow into their stomach!"

"Oh no!"

"Caen, you must not go there ciit!"

Not only the mice, even Caen and Gu Luoxin were shocked to hear that. Humans had evolved to eat mice now? And a raw mouse, no less?!

At that mont, Gu Luoxin abruptly recalled a certain teammate of his, who had a track record of eating anything and everything, even the disgusting and inedible food. That’s right... compared to a pot of dubious soup filled with uncooked at and lumps of hair, a living rmaid, and even his own body... what was a re mouse to account for?

Shen Nianzu was in that house, so there’s a very high chance that Jin Jiuchi was there as well! As soon as Gu Luoxin connected the dots, he was overwheld by a surge of excitent.

Unable to restrain himself, he spoke up without thinking, his voice almost cracking, "W–Wait ciit!"

All eyes turned to him, but this ti, Gu Luoxin’s focus was fixated on the gray mouse, his whiskers quivering in anticipation. "C–Can you please describe what that human looks like to ?"

Although puzzled, the gray mouse still answered honestly, "Uh, they look the sa as any other human ciit? Long fur, two eyes, a flat nose, a long neck..."

Gu Luoxin: "..."

Just like how humans couldn’t differentiate between mice, as they all had similar and general characteristics, the sa applied to mice as well. Moreover, the gray mouse was desperate to secure its own life so where did it find the ti to note down what Jin Jiuchi looked like?

Caen’s mousy face scrunched up lightly as he observed Gu Luoxin’s disappointed expression. He opened his mouth to ask, "Xinxin, do you know—"

"CIIT—!"

A piercing squeak and a wave of ruckus interrupted him. He snapped his gaze to the direction of the clamor – the outer ring of the open space – and was shocked to witness the mice scrambling as far away as possible from the steel cover as if their lives depended on it.

"The black cat... it’s here again ciit!!!"

"Ciit, why is it back?! What does it want?!"

"Don’t eat ciit! I’m not tasty!"

Gu Luoxin was caught off guard by the sudden chaos that erupted without warning. In his eyes, the current scene was akin to a massive stampede, and everywhere he could see was a mass of mice scurrying for their lives. It was so chaotic that he was almost swept by the tide, unable to distinguish one direction from another.

Caen raised his voice in an attempt to quell the chaos. "Calm down! Everyone, please calm down ciit—! The cat can’t co here! It can’t harm us!"

But alas, despite knowing that fact, it was extrely difficult to go against instincts. For them, cats were natural predators, and the fear they invoked seed to be woven into the very fabric of their being. Even Gu Luoxin, who had always been a cat lover his whole life, felt his fur bristling and his heart racing at the re ntion of the feline.

The pandemonium only added to his unease, confusion and anxiety, and he blindly followed the crowd so as to not be trampled to death, drifting further and further away from the steel cover.

However, at that mont...

"ow."

A lodic, graceful and unmistakably familiar ow pierced through the chaos and traveled to his ears, freezing him in his tracks.

T–This... this voice was...

Sohow, amidst the tumultuous scene, Gu Luoxin found the strength to stand his ground and swiveled around. Separated by ters away, he spotted a pair of familiar erald eyes, peering into the small holes on the steel cover. In the darkness, they seed to shimr in an ethereal glow, elegantly sweeping over the frantic crowd of mice before locking onto him with unwavering focus.

"ow~" Another ow followed, this ti it sounded pleased as if to say ’got you’.

Almost imdiately, Gu Luoxin’s eyes began to water.

Caen, who was struggling to restore order among the terrified mice, suddenly caught sight of Gu Luoxin who turned tail and rushed straight in the opposite direction as if possessed.

The direction he was heading was— straight toward the black cat.

Horror dawned on Caen’s features. "Xinxin—!"

But alas, Gu Luoxin couldn’t even hear him right now. No, even if he did, he would have ignored him in lieu of rushing to the familiar black cat belonging to one of the kindest and most powerful players he had ever known.

"L–Lu..." his mouth opened to call the cat’s na, but the tumultuous crowd threatened to overwhelm him at every step. He almost got swept away a few tis, yet every single ti, he gritted his teeth and pressed on, undeterred.

He forced himself to ignore the chaos around him, forced himself to ignore the blaring alarm issued by his instinct. He ignored them all and went against the flow, rushing toward the creature that should have been his natural predator.

This ti, though, instead of fear, his heart swelled with incomparable joy, delight and euphoria. Tears blurred his vision before streaming down his furry cheeks. It was as if all the grievances he had been holding back since the very first second he awoke in this Cycle had suddenly burst apart, now that he knew he had found soone he could rely on. Soone who could make him feel completely safe and secure.

"Lucius—!"

He erged from the crowd with his entire mouse disheveled, breathing ragged. Yet his limbs moved faster and faster as if he was flying, almost throwing himself onto the steel cover.

He blubbered, his words a jumble, "L–Lucius, is that you ciit? Is that really you...?!"

He had never realized it in his human body since he was the one who always carried Lucius around, but now, the black cat’s form lood over him. Lucius appeared really tall and powerful, his limbs sinewy and flexible, his black coat glossy with no hint of dust, his furry face lovely, with his long tail swaying gently back and forth. His eyes even more so— they were round, lustrous and otherworldly.

Staring into those beautiful erald eyes, Gu Luoxin felt as though he could see soone else gazing back at him through them.

"Xinxin~" Lucius gently nudged him with his wet nose. "You’re really such a handful ow. Do you know how long I’ve been searching all over for you?"

Shock coursed through Gu Luoxin like lightning when he heard Lucius speak. Co to think of it, he was an animal now, and he could understand what Jackie The Cat and the pigs were saying, so it was only natural for him to comprehend Lucius’ words too. Yet for so unknown reason, he remained frozen in place, gawking at the dark and beautiful creature before him, srized.

"Wow," With his ssy face and filthy body, he blurted out the first thing that ca to mind. "Your voice is so nice ciit..."

A/N: is it only or does lucius look extra cool and handso in this Chapter? >///< fyi he sounds like a teenager whose voice has just changed: not very deep, but a little husky. He also likes to drag on his end tone, making it sound languid and lazy~
