??“It can.” Serene’s reply was gentle, almost serene herself, as she stepped forward and stretched out her right hand.
??The instant her fingertips grazed the black fire, it reacted—quiet surface shuddering, the dark fla twisting restlessly.
??Right before their eyes, the deep black began to fade, shifting toward a blinding, immaculate white.
??Yet as the transformation began, Serene’s expression twisted in pain.
??Her Mana and Spirit drained at a terrifying pace. She bit her lip, sweat beading on her brow, her body trembling. She had yet to recover from last night’s depletion, and now the act of purification was pushing her to the brink.

??She stood up and stepped back a few paces.
