"Oh, hello! It’s you. How have you been?" Cail asked as if the person on the phone were his long-lost friend whom he had lost contact with after graduation.

The man on the line was taken aback, probably because of Cail’s normal-sounding and overly familiar question. Egin’s heart had been beating like a drum the mont the call was answered. The mont he heard the voice, it was as if he had been doused with cold water. He felt a chill—and calm.

"I have been great so far. I joined a team of Void Rift explorers, a sub-mber of the VRA. We all have goals, and I plan to grow stronger with them." Egin had no idea what to say, so he just answered the question. It was only now that he realized he had no plan for what to say if the call actually went through. It was an action driven by impulse.

Cail laid down on the bed. He was lying sideways with the phone beside him.

"That’s great. Very cute. You even managed to find companions..." His voice was languid and lazy. "It seems like you’re doing well... Why did you call ?"

Egin went silent. He opened his mouth, but nothing ca out. He wanted to say what he wanted more politely, more righteously, but no matter how much he had thought about wording it, it still sounded absurd. If he sugarcoated it more, it would sound hypocritical.

So he said what he was really thinking: "N—not enough. The coupon could give a guarantee that I would beco strong in the future... But not enough. I—I want it fast. I want to kill them imdiately. The deal you ntioned before, and you giving this number—does that an your service has extended until now?" His voice shaking at the end.

This guy had an appetite. Cail sensed that the reason for this call was probably not as pure as revenge. It was mixed with ambition and other factors.

Cail actually had no idea. Why do people sotis hide their desires? Isn’t that normal? Hmmm, probably has to do with morality, right?

"You don’t sound impatient for soone who wants imdiate revenge," Cail said. "But you understand that this is a kind of sponsorship, right?"

Here it cos, Egin thought. Will this man ask for my soul? He trembled, but that was what he could offer. "I agree with everything... I’ll pay anything."

Cail buried his face in the pillow. He felt sleepy. "This is not an artifact trade, but an opportunity. I rember you ntioning that your team is a sub-mber of the VRA, right? First, beco an official mber of the group, then I’ll give you what you want."

"But before that, you should just level up first. At least you need to prove that you are sowhat useful. Rember what I said before? I’m not giving charity," Cail said, his voice remaining calm and lazy.

As for what Egin said after that, Cail didn’t register it in his mind. It was just empty promises and pleasantries. After turning off the call, Cail thought of that ice princess...

Looks like I need to interact with her again, huh. Pretty easy.

Tossing the phone away, he thought about his goal. He seed to be just aimlessly screwing people over, but what did he really want as an end goal?

Power, authority, and fun.

That was his end goal. To be honest, that sounded boring. He felt that his fate seed to be the sa as Virehn’s. After gaining those, he would feel bored and destroy everything.

But since Virehn had already done that, Cail didn’t want to be a copycat. Maybe exploring the void would be next. But as of now, he should focus on ssing with people.

If he appeared now in front of that childish Zishi, it would probably look like a horror story. But for now, Cail wanted to lurk in the dark first. Egin seed to know his identity now, but Cail wasn’t really scared of him telling the truth.

Because as of now, Egin was still very scared of him. And Cail planned to fan that fear into paranoia. That way, Egin wouldn’t think about betraying him.

Hmmm... Okay, I admit it. He does feel a bit of thrill—like hanging on a thin rope of getting exposed or not.

He touched the ring that he had carelessly placed on the bed."First, let’s deal with this for now."

...

"Quill, it’s been hard to catch up with you. You seem to be always busy nowadays." Mr. Rosen patted Mr. Quill’s shoulder.

The two of them sat at an empty dining table. After they ordered a al, Mr. Quill asked for updates from the tournant.

"What happened to Hal’s group? They seed to be a ss before."

Mr. Rosen drank the glass of water that the waiter offered him.

"They unexpectedly managed to reach the final round in the team competition. As for the individual fights, only Neris was eliminated."

Hearing the troublemaker’s na, Mr. Quill rubbed his forehead.

"I guess he was eliminated because of so idiotic reason?"

Mr. Rosen’s face looked weird for a bit, but he shook his head.

"He was actually cautious this ti... But unfortunately, he matched with Edna."

"That’s very unfortunate." Mr. Quill laughed. "Edna’s ability is Neris’s nightmare."

The food finally arrived. Mr. Rosen gave Mr. Quill his share."Everything seems to be fine at the school. The parasite issue is now starting to be under control. How about your mission? Any news about the missing artifacts?"

Mr. Quill cracked the crab open."It is a shit show. I don’t know why this seemingly easy task beca so hard. A lot of students at school have dubious backgrounds. It’s reached the point that sotis I’m scared to investigate further in fear of touching sothing I shouldn’t touch."

It was actually shocking. These are just kids—why do they have such sketchy backgrounds?

Son of an underworld rchant, daughter of the Dotle, an illegitimate child of the richest man in Nyx City with a sketchy past, an unrecorded citizen, a mber of a cult, and many more. How did they all get jamd into one school?

The reason why Cail wasn’t really that suspect was because it wasn’t just him who had a suspicious history—almost half of the school seed to be hiding sothing. Mr. Quill had no idea where to start looking for the artifacts.
