Raymond’s lips curved into a knowing smile after hearing that question from Isabella. The room was quiet except for the faint rustle of the newspaper he’d set down and the distant chirp of birds outside the large windows.

He wanted to ignore the question, to end the conversation and move on with his day, but she was so persistent, her eyes locked on his with that mix of anger and need for closure that he knew from years of argunts. He adjusted his sitting position, shifting in the comfortable chair to face her fully, the leather creaking slightly. He looked her straight in the eyes, his voice steady but tired.

"Our marriage was arranged by our parents when we were young. We barely knew each other back then. Nothing about each other... our habits, our dreams, our real feelings. You must have had soone you loved before it all happened, and I also had soone I loved. That’s why I made my lover the second wife and made you the legal and first wife, because of our parents’ agreent and the family business ties."

She knew what he was saying, the words landing like old truths she’d buried but always suspected. Her chest tightened, a lump forming in her throat as the answer ca closer. She sniffed in, trying to keep her voice even.

"Just go straight to the point, Raymond. Don’t make wait for it."

He paused for a mont, his eyes not leaving hers, then said simply, "I don’t love you, Bella. I never loved you."

She staggered back a step, her hand reaching for the edge of the table to steady herself as she sat down hard in the chair again, the wood scraping softly on the floor. The room seed to spin for a second, the light from the windows too bright all of a sudden. She sobbed softly at first, the tears coming without permission as she shook her head slowly, her hands covering her face for a mont.

"I should have known. All those years... all of the emotions you showed , the smiles when we were in public, the touches at family events... they were fake. All of it, just for show."

Her voice broke on the last word, and she lowered her hands, looking at him with red-rimd eyes. The pain was clear, a lifeti of doubts confird in one sentence. She faked a smile through the tears, gently wiping them off her cheek with the back of her hand, her fingers trembling a bit. The effort to compose herself was obvious, her breathing uneven as she tried to pull together what was left of her pride. "If you hate so much, why do you want our son to... to what? End up in the sa kind of marriage? Cold and empty? How is it any different from ours?"

He imdiately cut her off, his voice firm but not raised, leaning forward slightly in his chair.

"I didn’t say I hated you. We were just not in love. There’s a difference, Bella... hate is active. This was just... nothing."

She asked, her voice cracking a bit more as fresh tears threatened.

"What difference? I clearly can’t see it. Hate or no love—it’s the sa in the end. The sa loneliness, the sa wondering if any of it was real."

He sighed, rubbing his temple as if the conversation was draining him.

"The difference is I never wished you harm. We had a life together, a family. Relating to our son. Nathan... he belongs to both of us. And just because you found out that your ex-husband never had feelings for you doesn’t an you can take back the kid or control his choices now. Nathan is an adult. He has absolute control over his life. Let him choose who he wants."

Isabella stood up slowly, sighing as she wiped the last tears off her cheek with a trembling hand. Her eyes were red, but she straightened her back, trying to look strong even as the hurt lingered.

"If that’s what you want to do with Nathan, I won’t stop you. Maybe you don’t want to do anything because you don’t care about him anyway... never did, just like with ."

Raymond wanted to correct her, to say that he cared deeply about Nathan... that was why he was supporting his pursuit of Elias, why he’d always provided for him and guided him from afar—but Isabella cut him off, her voice rising again with bitterness.

"But I am his mother, and I would do anything to make sure my son isn’t being cheated or thrown away on soone unworthy. I’ll give him all the things that you never gave ... real love, real guidance, a partner who fits our world."

When Raymond tried to speak again, opening his mouth to respond with sothing about letting Nathan be happy, she yelled, "Goodbye!" grabbed her purse from the table with a sharp motion, the strap catching on the chair for a second before she yanked it free, and walked away, her heels clicking fast on the floor. Raymond’s eyes followed her till she left, the door slamming shut behind her with a loud bang that echoed through the sunroom, rattling the glass in the windows slightly and making the coffee cup vibrate on the table.

He groaned, leaning back in his chair and pinching the bridge of his nose as a headache started from the confrontation.

"I shouldn’t have let her into the house. It’s been years since we saw each other and this argunt happened. Oh! Isabella..."

The butler, who had been waiting just outside the door discreetly, entered quietly, his steps soft on the carpet. "Everything okay, sir? That sounded quite intense. I heard the loud bang on the door from the hall."

Raymond nodded, dropping his hand and picking up his coffee again, though it was cooler now.

"Yes. Everything is perfect now. She’s gone... for good this ti, I hope."

"I’m sure with this, she won’t return." The butler agreed.

When Raymond took the cup off his lips, he rembered what she said about finding soone for Nathan.

"Call the matching centre and summon Dr Patel. Tell him it’s urgent," Raymond said with a grin.

"Is there an issue, sir? Are you feeling pain anywhere?" The butler asked in a worried voice.

"Issue? Not at all. Dr Patel would help Nathan get Elias as soon as possible. Summon him imdiately."

"Yes sir!" The butler left.

Raymond laughed as he imagined Elias being the son-in-law of the family. He couldn’t wait to get his hands on a dominant oga.
