Maria smiled, relieved at the apparent respect for her boundaries.

"Thanks. You’re the first to respect my privacy like that without pushing for details. It’s nice for a change. Do you want so fruit? I’d just cut so apples, bananas, and a few berries. It’s good for energy after a long day."

Bianca scoffed lightly, her smile turning sharper, the sweetness dropping like a mask.

"No thanks. I don’t need it. Soone needs it way more than I do... the unknown bastard in your belly."

Maria froze, her smile dropping instantly, the knife still in her hand as colour drained from her face. The word "bastard" hit hard, like a slap she didn’t see coming. Of course, it wasn’t the first ti anyone had said it to her. Ever since she got here, she has been hearing whispers in the halls when people thought she wasn’t listening. There were also comnts made about her behind her back at family dinners or gatherings.

She even overheard her aunts and other family mbers call her child that, speculating about the father or judging her for getting pregnant without a husband in sight. But to have soone say it to her face, straight out without sha or hesitation? It stung deep, bringing a rush of hurt and anger that made her throat tight. She sniffed to hide the tears building in her eyes, forcing a shaky smile as she gathered her composure.

"I’ll... be leaving now. Do enjoy your day."

She took her bowl of diced fruit, her hands trembling a bit as she balanced it carefully, and walked past Bianca, who let out a soft mocking laugh under her breath.

"Oh don’t leave now, Maria," Bianca’s eyes followed her as she folded her hands. "Everyone has been curious about who the real father of that unborn thing is. You refused to speak... since I’m your cousin, won’t you tell ? I promise, no one would know about it."

Maria swallowed hard as the kitchen suddenly beca silent. She rubbed her hand on her belly as she burst out of the kitchen.

When she walked passed Sofia, Sofia just ignored her, not saying a word or even looking her way, and walked to her sister. "That wasn’t nice, Bianca. She looked like she was about to cry."

Bianca shrugged, unbothered as she opened the fridge.

"She just walked away, isn’t that rude? Anyway, I wasn’t trying to be nice. She’s always acting so innocent... needed a reminder that we all know what’s going on."

Sofia shook her head but couldn’t help a small laugh.

"You’re terrible. Now, what can we eat? I could literally eat anything... even that spoiled at from before if it’s still around."

Bianca glanced at the fridge contents. "Let’s see. Eggs, bread... simple stuff. I’ll scramble so eggs, you toast the bread."

Sofia nodded, grabbing the loaf.

"Deal. I’m starving."

"Yeah. Yeah! We’re both starving. After our rest, make sure you spend so ti with that old fart."

Bianca rolled her eyes when she heard that. She closed the fridge as she placed the eggs in a bowl.

"You sure are interested in this case than Mother. Do you wish to be the heir?"

Sofia tilted her head softly with her back facing Bianca.

"Heir? That’s a rare word in my dictionary, Sofie." She pulled the toaster lever down and grinned.

’Since there are two of us... One of us would be chosen as the heir. But if I have a video of you fucking an old man, then it’ll be just ... Lil sister.’

She turned and smiled at Bianca, hiding her expression.

"You should be the heir since you’re the youngest."

Bianca waved her hand as she shook her head.

"Do I look responsible enough? It can only be you, Sister... Except, Elias turns out to be our cousin. What do we do then?"

"What Richardo couldn’t do years ago. We’ll kill him, and he’ll have his second death the mont he sets foot in here."

"Oh! I like that." Bianca giggled and started preparing the eggs.

anwhile, at the Caldwell mansion, Raymond was busy enjoying his morning in the sunroom. The large windows let in the warm light, and he sat comfortably with a newspaper spread out and a cup of coffee, the steam rising gently as he read the headlines. Birds sang outside in the garden, a peaceful backdrop to the quiet room. The butler approached quietly, bowing slightly.

"Sir, your ex-wife is here again. This is her fifth visit this week."

Raymond groaned, folding the paper with a rustle.

"Tell the guards to throw her away. I’m not in the mood for her drama today."

The butler suggested calmly, his voice even and respectful.

"Perhaps listen to her this ti, sir? Reject her properly so she stops coming and disturbing your peace."

Raymond sighed, setting the coffee down. "Fine. Send her in.. but make it quick. I have important things to do."

Isabella walked in a minute later, sitting opposite him at the table without waiting for an invitation.

"I would’ve complained about being ignored again, but I don’t care about that anymore. I’ll go straight to why I’m here. You have to do sothing about Nathan’s obsession with that peasant boy. It’s getting out of hand. I’m sure that boy has chard our son. He’s not himself."

Raymond yawned deliberately, leaning back in his chair. "Are you done?"

Isabella gasped, her eyes widening.

"Excuse ? This is serious since it’s concerning our son’s future."

Raymond shrugged. "I can’t do anything about Nathan’s obsession with anyone. He’s free to marry whoever he wants. He’s old enough to decide for himself now."

She argued back, leaning forward. "They don’t fit at all. Elias is low class... Nathan deserves better, soone from our level. We have to arrange a nice girl for him, soone suitable with background and connections."

Raymond listened to her argunt for a minute, then shook his head. "I don’t want my son repeating the sa mistake I made."

Isabella frowned, confused. "What mistake did you make?"

Raymond said plainly, "Marrying the wrong person."

Isabella was silent for a mont, her face paling.

"Marrying the wrong person? Are you referring to ? Did you ever love ?"

Raymond waved it off. "We’re over. I don’t need to answer such questions."

Isabella banged her hand on the table, the sound sharp.

"I asked a question and you must answer. Did you ever love ?"
