Mrs. Gu couldn’t stand the look of her, and found her words grating.

"What do you an by that, that except for what Old Gu needs to eat to nourish himself, nothing else is necessary? We don’t need to eat? Are you trying to starve us to death! There’s no food to eat, what good are those supplents you bought!"

Gu Yan pressed her lips together, holding back a burst of anger inside. Mrs. Gu should really stop thinking it’s a given to squeeze her dry; she has long repaid what she owed them. She was there only because of Gu Nian’s father, reluctant to watch him suffer.

But this had nothing to do with Mrs. Gu at all.

If it were Gu’s father who asked, Gu Yan would do her best to get whatever he wanted. But Mrs. Gu was different; she had never shown her any kindness, mistreated her for so many years, and still had such a an and harsh deanor, always asking for this and that.

Gu Yan was not a woman of infinite patience or kindness; she had her grievances and temper. Mrs. Gu never showed her a pleasant face but still expected her to keep supporting her — dream on!

"At the end of last month, I transferred two thousand yuan to the family’s account. When Dad was sick, the family didn’t contribute a single penny; it was all scrambling to cover the costs. Now, are you telling you can’t even afford food?"

"What’s the use of your two thousand yuan! Before you arrived, it was free for Old Gu to be in the town hospital?"

"Fine, let’s say that, then where’s the money Dad earned from all those years of hard work? I haven’t spent a single penny on your money, Dad works and earns, and my monthly two thousand isn’t a small amount. Are you telling , it’s all been squandered away with nothing left?"

Another bad habit Mrs. Gu had was comparing with others. Even with little money, she wanted to compete with others.

Gu Yan knew very well that the two thousand she sent back each ti would be squandered by Mrs. Gu, but she still hoped that with so extra money in hand, she might buy so better food or other groceries for the family, allowing Gu’s father to eat better.

At the ntion of squandering, Mrs. Gu couldn’t sit still; she abruptly stood up and glared sternly at Gu Yan.

"What do you an squander! Am I not allowed to buy anything? Gu Yan, if you’re trying to watch us starve to death, just say it outright, no need to probe our family’s financial situation roundabout. Let tell you, I will take it to the grave with , you won’t get a penny!"

Gu Yan sneered coldly, "Aunt Gu, you say that as if you’ve ever given a penny over the years."

The food they gave her was just leftovers from what they ate, or there was none at all. She hardly expected to be left anything after Mrs. Gu passed.

Besides, even if Gu’s father secretly left sothing for her, she wouldn’t take it, after all, it was their family’s money, and she was an outsider from the start.

The kindness received had been repaid, and really nothing was left binding them together.

She could completely walk away from them now, but she couldn’t bear to leave Gu’s father; otherwise, why else would she still stand here listening to Mrs. Gu’s harsh words?

"You animal, would you have what you have today without us! You ungrateful wretch!" Mrs. Gu shouted angrily.

"What I have today, I achieved by living on my own, having nothing to do with you," Gu Yan coldly retorted, thinking maybe without her, her childhood would have been a little better.

"Alright, you’ve grown wings and think you can say what you want, right? Let tell you, Gu Yan, as long as you’re an adopted daughter of this family, you have to support us until we die!"

"Did your family ever see as a person? Is my na on your household register?"
