Acantha stays in her room after they get back from the garden. She waited for the bird to co back but she stays there for the whole afternoon and the bird didn’t ca, she was worried that sothing might happened to the bird that’s why it didn’t ca back.
She was still feeling sad by Mildred’s revelation about how the duchess talk to her or the real Acantha when she was still in her womb. and how she loves her to the point that she died giving birth to her.
Her parents in her past life didn’t showed her any love, all she knew was they were always away for so business and she was raised and left by her nannies alone.
She later finds that her parents weren’t busy doing so business but they were busy spending so money from her grandfather who was the one who took her when he saw how they neglected her. That’s why her grandfather was the only family she cares for and with thought she felt a sudden pang on her chest knowing she will never see her grandfather again.
She sighed when she hears a knock, the door opened and a maid ca to call her as Mildred calls her to eat dinner and she inford her that the duke won’t be coming ho as he will go to the magic tower where the powerful magicians stays.
Acantha was done eating when she tries to walk when she heard so noises from the outside.
"Where’s the duke?" Acantha heard soone was looking for her father, she walks near to where she heard the commotions from, and there she saw so n who was harassing Mildred and one of the knight was trying to stop them.
"His grace still hasn’t ca back," Mildred said in a dead tone as but Acantha could see that she was a little bit shaking.
"Why is that the duke was always not here whenever we have a eting?!" The man said as he raises his voice as he look at Mildred who was just trying to talk to him.
"He has so important things to do," Mildred said as she was explaining the duke’s side.
Acantha was just listening as she knew who they were, she had read about them from the book in the library they were the councils at duchy of Solaris. They were consist of people who were a branch of Solaris family. In short they were relatives.
The man who raised his voice a while ago was none other than Count Minaro who was glaring at Mildred.
"This is why the duke should’ve remarried again to sire an heir to continue the legacy of Solaris house and to have soone who will be with us attending the eting not a daughter who only knew how to cause trouble and bring so sha to the family." He still continued as he scowled at Mildred who was now looking angrily at the count.
"You are getting out of line, My Lord. The duke won’t be happy if he heard you talk to his daughter like that," Mildred said as she looks at him with anger on her eyes.
"What? are you going to tell it to the duke? You’re just maid here," He said as he looked down on Mildred which I don’t like that’s when I decided to step in which I should’ve done in the first.
"To what do I owe your presences here, Count?" I said as I looked at them coldly. He looked at with dislike in his eyes, which is mutual since I don’t like him anyway.
This damned old man thinks so high of himself. when I looked at the ledgers that ca from his house there are so many lapses, he was just luck that I forgot about it, but since he walks in the lions den I should welco him with the warst welco.
"You’re here, My Lady" He said but I can still how he dislikes as he looked at with so much disgust in his eyes.
"Lady Acantha," One of them greeted , I knew him he was the one who’s in charged of the our territories trade from the other rchants around the kingdom.
"It’s good that you are here Lady Acantha, Ma we ask where the Duke is?" Count Minaro said as he scoffed at .
"Just like what Mildred said to you a while ago, the duke is isn’t here," I said as I look at him from his head to feet with disgust just like what he did to Mildred a while ago.
"Then you should be the one to take his place my lady. After all, you are his only heir," Baron Cargins said as he was grinning from ear to ear. He must be thinking that I knew nothing about when it cos to business, and besides this n here just barge here in our ho.
Mildred looked at and saw that she was hesitating as she knew that Acantha doesn’t know about anything except from spending the duchy’s money.
I smiled at her giving her so assurance that it was okay," Lead the guests to the duke’s office Mildred," I said as I went first without saying anything.
I sat on the Duke’s chair in his office as I was waiting for them to arrive, and they arrive not too long.
"Please settle yourselves" I said as pointed the long table where the Duke usually et his subordinates in this place.
They looked at like they are waiting for my downfall later, "So, what’s the reason that you were all here?" I asked as I looked at them one by one.
"That’s a little bit rude, My lady" Baron Cargins said as he look offended when I answered him with a smirk. The others nodded as if they are agreeing on him.
"I was just asking Lord Cargins is that rude for you?" I asked as I act innocent as I look at them.
They just looked at like I was the most irritating person they have ever encounter.
"Just go straight to the point ," I said as I looked at them. I turn around and look at Mildred and I told her to co near, I lean to her as I whisper, " Can you get the ledgers in the library, Mildred?" I asked as I looked at her who seems to be in so much wary.
"But my lady, are you sure you’re gonna be fine here alone?" She said as she looks at , and back to the n who was preparing the things they brought.
"Yes, just be hurry," I said as I know that library was far from this place.
Mildred nodded and she left the room, I face the n who was now looking at .
"Go on" I said as I urge them to say sothing.
"This is why I prefer if the duke was here, what do a little girl like you knew about what were gonna talk here?" Count Minaro said again as he scoffed at again like he was not planning to cooperate with .
"Just do it" I said as I was loosing my temper at him.
Baron Cargins took out a folder that I assu was his ledger, after all he was to one who was assigned for the funds for weapons, which I saw that the swords that the knights here in Solaris were using was actually made of poor steel that when they tried to use it to the monster they swords will be easily broken, not just broken how can the Duke didn’t notice this kind of fraud here in his territory.
"The funds weren’t enough for us to make any swords for the knight, The materials that we use for the swords and for their shields are getting expensive as they ca from the finest steel from the south," The Baron said which I couldn’t get what he was trying to point as his words are scrambling .
"There are also so problem with the ration in the east, all of our crops were destroyed by so mountain monster who ca and attack those who were staying there," Lord Sandriano said a he looks smugly as he was saying those things.
"Attacked? didn’t we lend you enough knights for you to protect the land in case there are so attacks that will happened there?" I said as I looked at him in the eyes, the duke also lent him so money to buy so crops so that the people there would have so enough ration, as the east was always either they are affected by draught or they will be attacked by so small monsters.
They looked at like they can’t believe that I knew sothing about the east from what they put in the ledger, what do they think of a fool?
