In the end, Damian could only grit his teeth and carefully choose his words. "Honestly, Master, I don’t know exactly what it is."
Selvara’s eyes remained calm.
Damian quickly added, "But judging from the dicinal aura leaking from the box, it is definitely sothing good. Really good."
Selvara looked at him for a mont, then turned her gaze toward the sealed jade box. "Open it."
Damian nodded.
He carefully removed the outer sealing talismans one by one.
The mont the jade box opened, a rich golden dicinal fragrance spread through the forest.
Even the surrounding spiritual Qi seed to tremble slightly.
Inside the box sat a golden pill covered with faint soul-like patterns.
Selvara’s eyes narrowed slightly.
For the first ti, a trace of surprise appeared on her usually cold face.
Damian noticed it imdiately. "Master, you know what this is?"
Selvara looked at the pill and spoke slowly. "Golden Soul Ascension Pill."
Damian blinked. "Golden Soul Ascension Pill?"
Selvara nodded. "A Top-Rank Noble Grade pill. It can help a peak Golden Core cultivator break through to the Nascent Soul Realm. It also stabilizes the soul during the breakthrough."
Damian acted surprised and stared at the pill. "Damn... no wonder that old bastard chased like a hungry dog."
Then, without hesitation, he pushed the jade box toward Selvara. "Master, I will give this to you."
Selvara looked at him. "This belongs to soone else."
Damian shook his head directly. "No, Master. This thing was already dirty from the start."
Selvara’s brows moved slightly.
Damian continued, "Whoever arranged this used Marden Lou and the escort team as cheap labor. At the sa ti, we were probably their scapegoats."
He pointed toward Morven’s corpse. "This elder ca first because the Night Fragrance Pavilion is basically an information pavilion. If they knew about it, others might know too."
His voice beca calr. "If we survived and delivered the box to Redstone City successfully, the real owner would only pay a bit more and take the pill back safely. Nothing to worry about."
Then Damian’s eyes turned colder. "But if we failed and died, they could bla the Heavenly Sword Sect for being useless and unable to protect a simple carriage. After that, they only needed to send stronger people to retrieve the item."
Selvara listened silently.
Damian smiled faintly. "In other words, they basically looked down on us and the Heavenly Sword Sect."
He pushed the jade box closer. "So why shouldn’t Master take it? Just think of it as paynt for their mistake."
Selvara did not speak imdiately.
Damian added, "Also, I don’t dare hold it for long. Like I said, if this pill does not arrive, the real owner may send soone even stronger to retrieve it. Maybe through bandits, maybe through another pavilion, maybe sothing worse."
Selvara looked at the Golden Soul Ascension Pill for several breaths.
Then she looked at Damian again.
For so reason, she seed to understand a little more about this disciple’s personality.
Shaless, yes.
Greedy, definitely.
But he was not stupid.
After a mont, Selvara nodded faintly. "You are right."
Damian’s eyes brightened slightly.
Selvara closed the jade box and took it into her storage ring. "I will keep it."
Damian imdiately smiled. "Good choice, Master."
Selvara glanced at him. "Do not look so happy. You still need to explain why your first mission beca like this."
Damian’s smile froze. "...Can we bla Marden Lou for most of it?"
Selvara turned around. "We will discuss that after returning to the sect."
Damian followed behind her and muttered quietly, "Damn it. I knew this pill was trouble."
But as he walked, another thought suddenly flashed through his mind. "Wait..."
He had already given the Golden Soul Ascension Pill to Selvara.
Even though she said she would keep it, Damian had clearly pushed it to her as a gift.
"So could that count?"
The mont this thought appeared, the familiar system screen suddenly appeared in front of him.
---
[Target: Selvara]
[Gift Given: Top-Rank Noble Grade Golden Soul Ascension Pill]
[500× Critical Multiplier Activated]
[Reward Obtained: King Grade Chaos Spiritual Root]
---
Damian’s steps slowly stopped as he simply could not believe what he was seeing.
The mont Damian read his reward, his entire body trembled slightly. "Goddamn..."
He almost said it out loud, but forced himself to swallow the words back down.
Chaos Spiritual Root.
Wasn’t this the kind of thing many main characters only obtained after falling into ancient ruins, surviving ten betrayals, fighting so thousand-year-old monster, and nearly dying seven tis?
But him?
He had not even been in this world for a full year and now the system just threw it at him like so casual reward?
Damian’s heart pounded wildly.
"Also... the hell? It actually triggered a critical hit?"
The 500× multiplier was already ridiculous enough, but to think he actually received a critical reward from her?
"Damn... damn... just goddamn..."
Damian lowered his head slightly, trying his best not to grin like an idiot. After all, Selvara was still walking in front of him.
If she saw his expression, she would definitely know sothing was wrong. Unfortunately, hiding from Selvara was not that easy.
She suddenly stopped and turned her head slightly. "Why are you shaking?"
Damian instantly straightened his back. "Shaking? ? Master, you must have seen wrong."
Selvara raised an eyebrow.
Damian quickly added, "Maybe it was the aftereffect of fighting Morven. You know, Golden Core pressure and all that."
Selvara stared at him for a few seconds.
Damian smiled with the most innocent face he could make.
Inside, however, he was still screaming.
"King Grade Chaos Spiritual Root... damn it, this is too huge."
Selvara finally turned away again. "Then walk properly."
Damian nodded quickly. "Yes, Master."
But the mont she looked away, the corner of his mouth lifted again.
This mission was dangerous, troubleso, and almost got him killed, but now Damian suddenly felt like he could forgive that damn Marden a little.
After all, if not for Marden accepting that stupid mission and bringing the pill, Damian would not have gained a reward that could change his entire cultivation path.
