"Honey, what’s gotten into you? Why have you brought out the Heart-saving Pills we haven’t used in years? Haven’t we been living well all these years?"
Li Dayu’s wife was a perceptive woman. Despite her hot temper, it didn’t stop her from being quick-witted.
"What’s wrong?" After composing himself, Li Dayu looked at his wife and exclaid, "It’s incredible! I used to think Wang Jian was a capable guy, but now I see he’s *truly* capable—on a whole other level."
"What?"
Li Dayu began to explain, "Didn’t Lao Wang’s family have a lot of guests today? Every single one of them arrived in a luxury car. They were all major bosses."
After saying this, he made a point to clarify, "These aren’t the kind of big bosses we usually see... but on the level of Boss Cai Xing. And the man who ca with Chairman Cai? I looked him up on my phone. He’s a top executive of a prestigious tech company abroad, even more influential than Chairman Cai. Then another group arrived, and they all seed to be university professors..."
His wife’s jaw dropped. She was naturally astonished after hearing it all. "How did Xiao Jian suddenly beco so impressive? I never saw any sign of it before. Did just going to university make him this formidable? I thought college graduates weren’t worth much these days."
Li Dayu’s wife glanced at her husband and asked curiously, "But they’re just a few big bosses. Why do you look so frightened? Did sothing else happen? Who were those people who ca earlier?"
She hadn’t been present when Li Dayu spoke with National Security, so she was completely in the dark.
Li Dayu chuckled, finally speaking slowly. "You’d never guess this one."
Seeing the displeasure on his wife’s face, Li Dayu quickly leaned in and whispered in her ear.
By the ti he finished, his wife had slumped into the seat beside him. Just like Li Dayu, she had temporarily lost the strength to stand.
Her heart was a mix of excitent and nervousness, but mostly, a bewildering dread.
"Oh my, why would *he* suddenly co to our village?"
Li Dayu shook his head, indicating he didn’t know either. "I’m not sure. They said it was a private visit and told us not to panic, and to do our best to stay away from Wang Jian’s house."
"Wang Jian again?"
WOW! This was a true blessing from their ancestors—and it was all about Wang Jian again.
The couple sat speechless in their main hall for a mont, staring outside, unsure of what to think.
In fact, Li Dayu’s worry that the village would descend into chaos due to this person’s arrival was unfounded.
Old Chen always kept a low profile when traveling. Aside from a Red Flag sedan parked at the village entrance, his arrival at Wang Jian’s house went almost unnoticed. Even the Wang family only learned about it when Old Chen reached the entrance to the village.
As a junior, Wang Jian naturally had to go out to welco them.
The others were still oblivious. Cai Xing, Peng Qing, and Professor Song’s group were busy playing mahjong. Wang Tianhe and Xu Qian were both preoccupied in the kitchen, with no energy to spare for matters outside.
Wang Jian walked to the village entrance alone. From a distance, he saw his master, Xu Changqing, and Old Chen, with only a single, professional-looking man following them. There were no other bodyguards in sight—at least, not openly.
"Why did you co all the way out to et us? Your master knows the way," Old Chen said with a smile as he saw Wang Jian. "Were you afraid we wouldn’t find the door?"
"Of course not. When elders visit, isn’t it only right for a junior like to co out and welco you?" Wang Jian would never dare to have such a thought. He quickly explained with a smile and led the two n inside.
Old Chen’s appearance did not escape the notice of the passing villagers.
At first, they couldn’t believe their eyes, but they soon realized the old man was indeed the sa one they used to see on television, and they stood there, dumbstruck.
By the ti they snapped out of it, Wang Jian had already led the two elders far down the path. When they tried to follow, they were stopped by plainclothes officers who seed to appear from nowhere.
The news that Old Chen had arrived at Wang Jian’s ho spread through Paigou Village like wildfire.
So people even went to the village chief’s house to confirm it. Li Dayu certainly didn’t dare encourage anyone to go gawk. Following the instructions he’d been given, he could only persuade the inquirers to go ho.
But this was an event far beyond his ability to contain. He had no control over the stir caused by such a high-profile figure’s appearance.
Once the people of Paigou Village knew, the news had likely already spread to all the surrounding townships. In the countryside, people are connected one way or another, even if they aren’t from the sa village. A single post on social dia or one phone call was all it took for basically everyone to find out.
It probably wouldn’t take even half an hour for Paigou Village to be flooded with onlookers.
If there was one thing the villagers had, it was ti. They were truly idle and never shied away from a commotion, which could be considered a sort of communal enthusiasm.
But that day, the village discussions about the Wang family reached their absolute peak.
Previously, Wang Jian’s close relationship with wealthy businessn like Cai Xing had certainly given them sothing to talk about. But when faced with the rich, people were either openly envious and sour or put on a hypocritical mask of disdain. That kind of gossip wasn’t exactly positive. Now, however, things were different. Old Chen’s arrival completely snuffed out any feelings of sourness or disgust, leaving only pure envy and awe.
"Doctor Xiao Wang is truly impressive..."
"Isn’t he? It’s one thing to have such amazing dical Skills, but to actually know Old Chen, too?"
"Is it just ’knowing’ him? To , they looked more like a grandfather and his grandson."
No one had thought of it that way before, but the scene they had witnessed was indeed far more intimate than a simple acquaintance.
"No matter what, the Wang family is in a different league than us now..."
As soon as this was said, the crowd of onlookers fell silent, replaying what they had just seen in their minds.
It was true. The Wang family still lived in the village, but ever since Wang Jian had returned, their standing seed to have changed completely.
After an unknown period of silence, soone suddenly blurted out, "No matter how impressive he is, it’s Wang Jian who’s impressive. It has nothing to do with his brother or his dad."
"You’re just being sour. No matter what you think of them, Wang Tianhe and Wang Xiang are Wang Jian’s father and brother. They’re all family! If one of them is successful, the whole family is successful. Who are you to say otherwise?"
The person, feeling no remorse, retorted, "So what if I said it? It’s not illegal. It’s my mouth, can’t I say what I want?"
"Go on, talk all you want. Even if Doctor Wang didn’t know these people, he’s impressive all on his own. We’ll see if you’re still talking so big when you fall seriously ill one day and have to beg him for treatnt."
At these words, the man who had been acting tough suddenly lost his nerve.
No matter how arrogant he was, he was still human. And humans get sick. When you get sick, you have to see a doctor... You can offend anyone, but you can’t offend a doctor.
With this thought, he saw his chance when no one was looking and slipped away, not daring to linger.
