Zhang Li finally understood. It wasn’t a problem with Wang Jian’s dical skills, but rather that he had developed a psychological block when it ca to intimacy. At that mont, even without being a doctor, he knew sothing was wrong.
He had actually encountered this sort of thing before. The very first ti, he had been so nervous he probably couldn’t even find the right spot. Then, in his panic, he just couldn’t perform. Unexpectedly, now that he was recovering from a long illness, he was right back where he started—like a complete novice, only it seed even worse. He and Li Liping had tried several tis, to no avail, before he finally went to see Wang Jian.
The mont Wang Jian heard the story, he knew it was a psychological issue, sothing he truly couldn’t help with. He could, however, offer so guidance, so he prescribed so dication for the problem. But to his utter surprise, even after taking the dication for his dysfunction, Zhang Li would still falter at the critical mont. After this latest failure, Zhang Li returned to Wang Jian, his face a mask of misery.
The two of them found a small hill and stood on its slope, looking down at the village and talking, just like they used to when they played together as children.
"Xiao Jian!" Zhang Li had been sighing ever since he arrived. "I think... I’m hopeless."
Wang Jian didn’t have a real solution for Zhang Li’s condition, but he knew these things couldn’t be rushed. "You’re just..."
"I know..." Zhang Li cut off Wang Jian’s attempt at consolation, letting out a hollow laugh. "It’s psychological, right? I’ve seen doctors for years and tried all sorts of things. Who would’ve thought I’d still have this problem now? But what’s worse is, it seems I only have this problem with Liping."
"You’ve tried with soone else?" Wang Jian asked, his expression strange. Zhang Li simply nodded.
"..." Wang Jian was speechless for a mont. "Does Liping know?"
Zhang Li shook his head again. "You can’t tell anyone! I an, about the fact that it’s not working with and Liping."
Wang Jian had already given Zhang Li a physical examination and found nothing abnormal. His internal energy flow was perfectly normal as well. In this respect, Wang Jian was powerless. However, he could still grant Zhang Li’s request. "Don’t worry. But when you get the chance, you should really see a psychologist. If you’re willing, I can give you a recomndation. You know I have so connections with the Cai family."
"Otherwise, just leaving Liping hanging like this isn’t a solution."
"Sigh." Zhang Li nodded. Who could argue with that? Even if Wang Jian hadn’t said it, he knew it himself; it just couldn’t be rushed. "We’ll take it slow, I guess."
"Oh, right!" Zhang Li glanced at Wang Jian, a thought suddenly occurring to him. "I haven’t asked you since you got back from Shanghai. That thing I talked to you about before, did you ever do it?"
"What thing?" Wang Jian asked, feigning confusion.
"About having you provide the seed." Thinking Wang Jian was playing dumb, Zhang Li stressed his point, his voice just loud enough for the two of them. There was no one else around. He truly didn’t understand why Wang Jian was always so timid. It was a simple matter that they had already discussed. It wasn’t an affair, so there was nothing to fear. "There’s no need to be scared, I’m the one who asked you to do it. Just tell the truth!"
"No, I didn’t," Wang Jian said, shaking his head and concealing the truth.
Zhang Li studied him for a mont. He had actually already asked Li Liping about this right after his health improved, and asking Wang Jian again now was rely a way to test the waters. After all, he was a man. It was one thing when he was physically incapable, but now that he could function, he naturally didn’t want his woman to be with another man.
Fortunately, the answer he received set his mind at ease. The rift he’d felt in his heart began to close. That whole act about not caring before... it was all a lie.
Zhang Li spoke in a deliberately casual tone. "It’s fine, it’s all in the past. Liping and I have decided to go for sperm retrieval... Anyway, I’m better now, so no one can say I’m not capable. Even if Liping gets pregnant, the child will be mine."
"That’s great. I’ll be waiting for an invitation to the baby’s full moon celebration."
After that topic ended, they fell into a mutual, knowing silence. Wang Jian saw through Zhang Li’s little test; he had so insight into a patient’s psychological state.
Thinking of Li Liping, Wang Jian let out a silent sigh. After that night, how could he simply forget? A deed done always leaves its mark.
After bidding farewell to Zhang Li, Wang Jian returned ho, his mind a jumble of thoughts. Back at his house, three won were waiting for him. If it weren’t for the college student in his ho, he would have almost forgotten that it was back-to-school season again.
"You’re finally back!" Xu Qian stood at the entrance to the Wang family ho, her hands full of bags and two shoebox-like containers cradled against her chest. "We bought a ton of things! They’re all in Cai Qiong’s car. Quick, go help out."
When she saw Wang Jian, her face lit up as if she’d seen her savior, and she quickly pointed toward the village entrance. In the direction she indicated, two female figures were hauling a large pile of items, making their way toward the house. They definitely looked like they needed help. Without renovations, the terrain of Paigou Village made carrying things back and forth a real chore.
"She’s just going back to school, why buy so much?" Wang Jian muttered. "How is she going to get all this to Capital City?"
Xu Qian shot him a look. "Just help when you’re asked to help. Why so many questions? She can’t carry it all herself, so why don’t you take her?"
"What?" Wang Jian was stunned. Judging by Xu Qian’s expression, this wasn’t just a casual remark. "You really want to take her? But... what about the clinic?"
Xu Qian rolled her eyes at him again, setting her things down in the courtyard to let him pass. Then, making sure no one was around, she suddenly opened her arms and pulled Wang Jian into a hug. She paid no mind to his body tensing up for a mont, ignoring everything else.
Wang Jian swallowed, though not for the reason one might think. The two of them hadn’t had any physical contact since their last argunt; even private conversations like this had beco rare. Being hugged so suddenly caught him completely off guard. Before he could react, Xu Qian began to speak.
Burying her head in his chest, she said, "Xiao Jian, I’ve been spending all my ti with Xiao Yu lately. She hasn’t said a word, but I’m sure you know that after what happened, we’re the only ones she can rely on. Ever since she was little, you’re the only one she’s ever wanted to stick close to. If you could take her to school, she would be so happy. She’d never say it, but she really needs that kind of companionship."
After speaking, Xu Qian patted his back and then stepped away. Wang Jian’s hands, which had been rising to embrace her, only managed to brush against her back as she pulled away.
"Go on! Help them with their things."
Xu Qian turned and headed into the house with her items, not giving him a chance to say another word.
Wang Jian sighed. He was deeply familiar with his sister-in-law’s gentle nature. He’d been so busy with other matters lately that he’d neglected the people in his own ho. Looking at it now, he realized that although Ren Yu acted indifferent on the surface, she must be incredibly lonely inside.
But... thinking of Ren Yu, he couldn’t help but recall that day in the clinic.
Wang Jian cleared his throat. Just the mory of that scene was enough to make him feel awkward.
As Wang Jian watched his sister-in-law walk away, he thought to himself, The way that girl clings to ... it’s far more intense than you could ever imagine.
