"What did you see?"
"What’s with that look on your face? Did you see a ghost?"
"Brother Long, look at that person..." Angel didn’t answer, instead patting Brother Long’s arm in astonishnt. She didn’t hold back, nearly knocking the cara out of his hands.
"What?" Brother Long fumbled to secure the cara, almost dropping it because of Angel’s sudden outburst.
Cold sweat broke out on his forehead. If that cara had fallen, it would have cost him several years’ salary to replace. Fortunately, he caught it just in ti, narrowly avoiding disaster.
But when he looked up, all he saw was Peng Qing getting into a car. Thanks to Angel’s prompting, he did find the man’s face sowhat familiar.
"Who is that? He looks so familiar."
Angel turned around excitedly, and her radiant beauty caught Brother Long off guard.
Huang Long was a veteran at the TV station. At thirty years old, his rank wasn’t high, but he was experienced and competent, which was why Angel called him Brother Long. The two were partners for on-location shoots, and their mission today was to gather material in the village.
"You don’t recognize him?"
As Peng Qing’s car drove away, it dawned on Angel. She asked in confusion, "That man is Peng Qing! Don’t you know him?"
Angel had recognized Peng Qing the mont she laid eyes on him. However, seeing him personally escorting Wang Jian into a car was so startling she could hardly believe her eyes.
But after she confird it on her phone...
Thinking of her phone, Angel imdiately showed what she had found to Huang Long. After reading it, his expression changed drastically.
"Damn! Is this for real?"
He recognized him now, too.
"What is soone like him doing in this village?"
No one could answer Huang Long’s question, as Angel was wondering the exact sa thing.
Seeing Angel lost in thought, Huang Long lowered the cara. "So... are we still doing the story on poverty alleviation?"
"Yes!" Angel snapped out of her daze and answered imdiately. "Of course, we are! I have to find out why such a powerful man ca to this tiny mountain village. And... who was that young man?"
"Young man?"
Huang Long looked puzzled. He had only seen Peng Qing getting into the car.
Angel quickly recounted what she had witnessed. Huang Long was shocked. "That’s impossible. You must have seen it wrong. If that was really Peng Qing, why would he be fawning over so young man?"
And in a place like this...
Huang Long glanced around the mountain village, unable to imagine any plausible scenario.
Angel shrugged. She didn’t know either, but she trusted her eyes. So, not only was she going to pursue the story, but she was going to dig deeper. She had to find out who the young man was and why Peng Qing was here. Otherwise, the curiosity would eat away at her.
Using company equipnt for personal business was the best feeling.
Just after making her decision, Angel spotted a pot-bellied villager swaying as he walked near the village committee office. Angel had sharp eyes. The man wore a white short-sleeved shirt, black casual pants, and slip-on sandals. He was clearly a village official.
She quickly grabbed Huang Long and hurried over to greet him.
Their luck was good. They had run into Li Dayu right after entering the village.
Two hours later, Angel had finished her initial investigation. However, no matter how she asked or tried to probe, she couldn’t uncover the real reason for Peng Qing’s visit. Even the village chief didn’t know who Peng Qing was, or if he had even been there at all. This was not what Angel had expected.
"Should we just give up?" Seeing Angel’s stubbornness, Huang Long tried to persuade her. "We have enough material for our story anyway."
He gestured with the cara in his hand to emphasize his point. But he had still underestimated Angel’s determination.
"No," Angel’s eyes flashed with an unyielding spirit. "We’ve barely scratched the surface. This is a huge story that even major TV stations might miss. If I can get an exclusive report, my entire career as a reporter will have been worth it."
"Don’t you want to know? Don’t you want this story?" Angel asked Huang Long.
He gave a wry smile. "It’s not that I don’t want to report it, but we don’t even know where they went. We can’t just wait around like idiots. And what about this footage? We have to take it back."
"Hmm..." Angel was reluctant. She knew Huang Long had a point. "Brother Long, how about you head back first? I’ll stay here one more day."
"Co on, girl... We’re not paparazzi."
"Ha ha ha! I have a feeling that young man is from this village. He has to co ho eventually, right?"
Hearing this, Huang Long stopped trying to dissuade her. He just shrugged. "Fine, I’ll stay another day, too. I can’t just leave you here alone. It would be hard to explain."
"Thanks, Brother Long!"
The two went back to find Huang Dayu and arranged to stay in Paigou Village.

anwhile, Wang Jian was in the car with Peng Qing, heading toward Cai’s Villa. On the way, Peng Qing told him a great deal about Peng Pingan. After hearing about Ping An’s symptoms, Wang Jian’s expression grew puzzled.
Seeing his look, Peng Qing was alard. "Doctor Wang, don’t tell you don’t have a solution either?"
"Ah," Wang Jian smiled wryly. "Mr. Peng, as I said, I have to see the patient first."
"But that expression on your face..." Peng Qing breathed a sigh of relief. Years of maintaining his composure kept his expression neutral, but his back had broken out in a cold sweat. "I thought..."
"Where there’s life, there is hope," Wang Jian said, patting Peng Qing’s shoulder. They looked at each other, no more words needed. After hearing Peng Pingan’s story, Wang Jian truly hoped he could cure the boy.
Each lost in their own thoughts, they soon arrived at Cai’s Villa.
"You’re finally here."
As they reached the entrance, Wang Jian saw Cai Qiong waiting anxiously at the door. "Ping An fainted just now! He’s in his room. Hurry, go see him."
"What?"
Hearing this, Peng Qing had no ti to waste and dashed inside.
"Uncle Peng, he’s in his room!" Cai Qiong called after him. Then, she grabbed Wang Jian’s arm and pulled him along, whispering, "You shouldn’t have co."
"What’s wrong?"
Cai Qiong shook her head. "If you manage to cure Ping An, that’s one thing. But if you can’t, there might be trouble. It won’t be good for your reputation. Countless experts have failed. What makes you think you can succeed?"
"It’s hard to say," Wang Jian replied honestly, unwilling to make promises before seeing the patient.
Cai Qiong’s expression showed she had expected this. "My Uncle Peng’s son is on his last breath. If you cure him, with Uncle Peng’s backing, you’ll beco famous overnight. But if you fail, you’ll likely have to shoulder the bla for all the other doctors’ failures. When that news gets out, it will beco your fault even if it isn’t."
"Besides... people can change when they beco desperate."
As a psychologist, Cai Qiong had seen too many cases like this. She was worried for Wang Jian and was imagining the worst-case scenario.
"What do you an?" Wang Jian asked, stunned. "Who exactly is this Mr. Peng?"
"Uncle Peng?" Cai Qiong turned back. She had assud Wang Jian knew. Seeing his expression, she realized he was telling the truth. "You really don’t know who he is?"
"Have you heard of Ali Technology? Uncle Peng is its founder."
"Ali?"
At the ntion of the na, they both stopped in front of Peng Pingan’s door.
Wang Jian certainly knew of the company. Unlike the Cai Family, Ali Technology specialized in dical equipnt. They even researched artificial organs and bionic devices, ranking among the top in the world. Most importantly, it was a dostic company.
This was interesting. The Cai family dealt in pharmaceuticals, while Mr. Peng, Chairman Cai’s friend, was in dical equipnt.
Between the two of them, they probably control half the country’s dical industry...
Wang Jian finally understood what Cai Qiong was trying to say.
"I get it now. That’s what you’re worried about."
With Peng Qing’s power, if sothing went wrong after Wang Jian treated his son, a twisted and desperate Peng Qing could decide to co after him. Not even Cai Xing would be able to help him then.
But Wang Jian wasn’t thinking about that. Having learned of Peng Pingan’s plight, his conscience as a doctor wouldn’t let him stand by and watch a young man suffer.
"But running away without even taking a look... that’s not . If a doctor gets scared off and assus he can’t cure a patient before even seeing them, he’s unqualified. After I’ve seen him, if I truly believe I can’t help, I won’t force it. It won’t be too late to leave then."
"Otherwise, my conscience won’t be clear."
Hearing this, Cai Qiong glanced at him and then broke into a smile.
Sotis, she really thought Wang Jian was an idiot.
When they encountered those thugs, he had insisted she run first. Now, for a patient he’d never even t, he was willing to bet his entire future. All of it for his so-called conscience.
All just for peace of mind.
What a fool.
