The old man hadn’t really given it much thought; he simply wanted to see what Mo Qi was made of.
Seeing the constipated looks on Mo Qi and the Pig Emperor’s faces, how could he not guess what was on their minds?
"Heh heh."
With a soft chuckle, he vanished on the spot, as if he had never been there at all.
Mo Qi and the Pig Emperor exchanged a look, communicating in secret.
"That old geezer’s gone?" the Pig Emperor asked, its little eyes darting around, though it couldn’t see a thing.
"I don’t think so. I bet he’s hiding sowhere, watching us," Mo Qi replied, wiping the cold sweat from his brow as he put away the nearby stove and dining table.
"Holy hell, does that old geezer have such a sick sense of humor?" The thought of an old man spying on it from the shadows made the Pig Emperor’s scalp tingle and its skin crawl with goosebumps.
Mo Qi rapped the Pig Emperor on the head and sent a transmission, "What are you letting your imagination run away with? Didn’t you hear him? He’s the master of this mountain range. He let a ton of Cultivators below the Void Realm in to hunt for treasure. I think he’s plotting sothing, and it’s sothing big. We’re definitely not the only ones he’s secretly watching."
"Besides, we’re not even from around here; we just stumbled in by accident. The old man shouldn’t give us any trouble."
The Pig Emperor shot Mo Qi a strange look. "After eating your dicinal Cuisine, are you sure he won’t just force you to stay and be his personal chef?"
Mo Qi was speechless. ’Now that I think about it, that does seem like a real danger.’
"He... he probably wouldn’t, right?" Mo Qi said, his voice laced with uncertainty and a hint of panic. "Otherwise, he wouldn’t have just let us go."
The Pig Emperor shrugged, the picture of innocence. "Maybe."
Mo Qi took a deep breath, shaking off the distracting thoughts to calm himself down.
’What’s done is done. Best to take things as they co.’
’Worrying about it now is useless.’
’The old man’s strength was beyond "powerful." The word "hopeless" wouldn’t be an exaggeration.’
’If that old man really wanted sothing from , with my current strength, fighting back would be pointless, even if I risked my life.’
With that thought, Mo Qi snatched up the Pig Emperor and stuffed it into his robes.
"Let’s go!"
The Pig Emperor, utterly baffled, poked its head out from Mo Qi’s robes. "Where to?"
"Treasure hunting! We can’t have co all this way, lost a serving of dicinal Cuisine, and just go ho empty-handed, can we?"
The Pig Emperor froze for a second, then a brilliant smile spread across its face.
It loved nothing more than treasure hunting.
Besides, it wasn’t the least bit worried about Mo Qi’s safety.
Because there were so things that, while unknown to Mo Qi, it knew perfectly well!
Like the white-robed woman who flew from Mo Qi’s ring outside Nanyang City... or the mysterious person at the Dragon Vein Within the Pass of the Mountain and Sea Empire, who possessed Mo Qi and helped him ring the Dragon Vein Imperial Bell!
Everything pointed to one thing: not only was Mo Qi’s burden heavy, but the path he walked was likely being arranged, or at the very least, watched over by others.
In either case, Mo Qi wasn’t about to die so easily.
...
In so hidden corner, the old man stroked his goatee, smacking his lips as he savored the mory of the dicinal Cuisine.
He fought the urge to think about the other serving of dicinal Cuisine in his Storage Space. He wanted to save it, to make it last.
’Why does that kid keep exchanging glances with that pig? Don’t tell he has so... special tastes?’
Just as he was muttering to himself, Mo Qi and the Pig Emperor sprang into action.
’It’s finally starting. Heh heh... This old man has left a nice little surprise for you in the first trial. I wonder if you can make it through.’
’Oh, you crazy girl, you crazy girl. It’s not that this old man wants to give him a hard ti on purpose. It’s just... I’ve been asleep for so long, I need a little fun.’
’Whether or not he can get your things... well, that’s up to him.’
...
「Deep in the Desperate Mountain Range.」
The Pig Emperor had already leaped from Mo Qi’s robes to perch on his shoulder.
"Mo the kid, there’s no sense of direction here. How are you planning to navigate?" the Pig Emperor asked.
Mo Qi closed his eyes, concentrating. He sent a transmission: "My mother left a clue nearby. It’s very close. How about we hunt for so treasure on our way there?"
The Pig Emperor grinned. "What treasure could possibly hide from this Emperor? Treasure hunting? Just follow and get ready to pick up the loot!"
Despite its confident words, the Pig Emperor’s heart skipped a beat.
’Mo Qi’s mother left a clue here, and by sheer coincidence, there’s an absurdly powerful old man here, too.’
’Could that be a coincidence?’
’The Pig Emperor certainly didn’t think so.’
’But since it was still unclear whether the old man was friend or foe, it couldn’t say much.’
"That way!" Mo Qi’s eyes snapped open as he pointed to the right.
The Pig Emperor refocused, sending out its senses in the direction Mo Qi indicated before leaping into the air to lead the way.
"Follow this Emperor! There’s plenty of treasure along this path."
The man and pig zipped through the dense forest, but Mo Qi ca to a halt before they had gone a hundred ters.
"Mo the kid, why’d you sto—" The Pig Emperor turned its head to ask why Mo Qi had stopped, but a sharp claw suddenly tore through the fabric of darkness, lunging for it.
"Watch out!"
Mo Qi had stopped precisely because he had sensed an unusual aura.
So, while the attack was sudden, he wasn’t caught completely off guard.
He yanked the Pig Emperor back by its ear.
SWISH!
The claws grazed the Pig Emperor’s scalp. A trail of black smoke hung in the claw’s wake, sizzling as it corroded the air and refusing to dissipate.
Then, a bizarre Exotic Beast erged from the shadows.
It was humanoid, with four limbs, but it had no face and its body was pitch-black.
It stood over ten feet tall. Its limbs were thick and powerful, gleaming with a tallic luster.
It had five fingers on each hand, but its nails were like an eagle’s talons—long and razor-sharp.
*Chaos Scripture: Low-Level Abyssal Demon. Strength at the Peak of Vajra Realm. Low intelligence, emotionless, and bloodthirsty. High attack and defense. Addendum: Low edibility. Capture for culinary purposes is not recomnded.*
Reading this description, Mo Qi didn’t know whether to laugh or cry.
’The Chaos Scripture is getting more and more considerate,’ he thought. But before he could dwell on it, the Abyssal Demon attacked again.
"Damn it! How dare it ambush this Emperor! Mo the kid, beat the shit out of it for !" The Pig Emperor rubbed its now-cold scalp, its lingering fear giving way to fury.
It had almost gotten its skull torn off! How could it possibly tolerate that?
Mo Qi nodded. He was furious that the Pig Emperor had nearly been killed. He imdiately threw a punch, eting the Abyssal Demon head-on.
CLANG!
Their fists collided. A powerful force shot up Mo Qi’s arm and slamd into his organs, sending him stumbling back several steps.
The Abyssal Demon was sent flying dozens of yards. Its ferocity flared, and with a piercing shriek, it charged again.
’Such incredible power!’ Mo Qi thought in amazent. ’I used fifty percent of my strength in that last punch.’
With his body tempered by the Nine Transformations into Spirit, even without using any other techniques, fifty percent of his power was enough to obliterate an ordinary Cultivator at the Peak of Vajra Realm.
And yet, this Abyssal Demon was completely unscathed.
