"Chu Mu... it's quite a good na, but I wonder which character it is? The 'Mu' in the deep twilight, the 'Mu' in solemnity, or the 'Mu' in admiration?"
Chu Ge played with an empty test tube he had casually picked up from the lab bench and asked Chu Mu a question.
Chu Mu was already stunned, and hearing Chu Ge's question, he was even more dumbfounded. However, he didn't have ti to think about what Chu Ge ant by it and imdiately replied, "It's the 'Mu' in harmony."
Chu Ge laughed again, "The 'Mu' in harmony? Was it Chu Chengrui who nad you? Putting such a na on you is a joke."
Chu Mu stayed silent, not knowing what to say, just repeatedly adjusting his breath, hoping in this eerie atmosphere that the seemingly possessed "Number One," "Number Two," and "Number Three" would quickly return to normal, and looking for an opportunity when Chu Ge was off guard to draw his gun and shoot him.
Even if Chu Ge were the most valuable experintal subject, he'd still need to live to be researched.
Chu Ge casually threw the test tube to the ground, shattering it with a crunch, causing Chu Mu to shiver. He almost reached for the gun at his waist but didn't know why this clearly good opportunity made his already half-raised hand drop again.
Chu Ge stretched lazily, scratched his head, and said, "After lying down for so many days, I really feel a bit stuffy and want to find soone to chat with. Why don't we talk about sothing else?"
"Okay... okay."
"I believe you've noticed that I was originally talking to Chu Chengrui, but the conversation turned unpleasant, resulting in this situation. You... shouldn't have an unpleasant conversation with , right?"
"No... no." Chu Mu attempted to smile, but it looked worse than crying by a mile.
"Is there a lack of affection between you and your father?" Chu Ge crossed his legs, tilted his head with interest, "It's been almost a minute since you walked into this lab, right? I've noticed you've been looking at , them three, even that knife, watched playing with glass, spinning the test tube, but you... haven't really looked at Chu Chengrui?"
"I..."
Chu Mu didn't know what Chu Ge was up to, his eyes drooping, eyeballs rolling, and at the sound of "I" couldn't decide what to say next.
"No need to hesitate. Casual talks are just casual talks; say what you think."
Chu Ge smiled warmly as if genuinely chatting with an old friend, but just as Chu Mu looked up to respond, two small surgical blades suddenly appeared in Chu Ge's hands, deftly flipping between his fingers.
Seeing this, Chu Mu almost wet himself, deeply terrified yet relieved afterward. If he had rashly gone for the gun earlier, he might... no, he certainly would have been struck with a blade by now.
As for whether it'd be one blade or two, or even more, hitting his heart, throat, or sowhere else, it's uncertain.
While Chu Mu pondered with a racing heart, he noticed the surgical blade in Chu Ge's left hand had vanished, stiffening him instantly. He instinctively wanted to check himself for missing parts, but didn't dare move, feeling as if an invisible hand gripped his heart tightly.
A second later, Chu Mu discovered the surgical blade had shifted from Chu Ge's left hand to his right, where the two blades fluttered between Chu Ge's fingers like a butterfly, the "wings" emanating an elegantly nimble yet deadly glow.
"Go on, say sothing?"
Simultaneously, Chu Ge's calm voice ca again, startling Chu Mu, who stamred, "Wha... what?"
"I asked, how's your relationship with your father?"
Chu Ge didn't seem irritated by Chu Mu's slow response, still appearing amiable, except that the butterfly in his hand seed to flutter even more wildly.
"Good." Chu Mu laboriously uttered a word and quickly added, "It's... very good," fearing Chu Ge would think he was being perfunctory.
Chu Ge nodded, seemingly absentmindedly replied, "Oh."
In the brief silence, Chu Mu grew increasingly anxious inside, unsure if his answer t Chu Ge's satisfaction or what that "Oh" from Chu Ge ant.
"Then... why did you hardly pay attention to him after you ca in?"
Chu Ge looked puzzled, asking while seemingly distracted, accidentally dropping the "butterfly" made of surgical blades.
Chu Mu slightly breathed a sigh of relief; those two damned surgical knives were finally no longer under Chu Ge's control. He hesitated for a mont, questioning whether this was the perfect opportunity to draw his gun and shoot Chu Ge.
While hesitating, he also felt a bit of regret. How wonderful would it have been if the two incredibly sharp surgical knives hadn't simply been tossed aside, but rather had severed Chu Ge's fingers? Then, taking advantage of Chu Ge's mont of shock from the pain, he wouldn't have to wrestle with his conscience; he could just draw his gun and blow Chu Ge's head off.
While Chu Mu was indecisively caught in his thoughts, he saw the two surgical knives soar into the air, tracing a slanted arc, their tips pointing down as they fell. And the spot where they landed was none other than Chu Chengrui's immobile right hand.
With two soft sounds reminiscent of leaves rustling, the two surgical knives plunged almost entirely into the back of Chu Chengrui's hand, leaving only a small portion of the handles visible. Blood quickly began to flow, spreading across the pockmarked laboratory table.
Chu Chengrui let out a muffled groan, causing Chu Mu to shiver once again; his teeth couldn't stop trembling, and he kept clicking them together, producing a "da-da-da" sound that seed to echo directly in his mind. His heart raced as if it would leap out of his throat.
What… what the hell was going on?
Chu Mu asked himself this question again, but alas, he couldn't give himself a definitive answer.
If Chu Ge had simply lost control of the surgical knives and they coincidentally impaled the back of Chu Chengrui's hand, then… isn't that a bit too coincidental?
But if Chu Ge did it intentionally, then… this could only be described as a miraculous display of skill!
The scent of blood thickened in the air, and it felt as though the temperature around Chu Mu plumted below zero, chilling him from the inside out, freezing every blood vessel and nerve in his body.
The more he couldn't grasp the situation, the more frightened Chu Mu felt. His gaze at Chu Ge shifted repeatedly, cold sweat dripping from his forehead, forming a small puddle within re seconds. All the calculations he had in his mind vanished like phantoms in the sunlight, dissipating instantly.
Did Chu Ge do it on purpose?
Of course, Chu Ge did it on purpose. Without displaying so tactics, how could he make Chu Mu behave?
Although controlling Chu Mu, like controlling the other three people, would be an easy task, he had been tornted for so long, and his anger was far from being vented. If he handled it so straightforwardly, wouldn't it reduce the fun in what he was planning to do next?
Watching Chu Mu's face grow paler, devoid of any trace of blood, Chu Ge tapped his finger on the tal surface of the laboratory table.
"Chu Mu, shouldn't you be answering my question? Even if it's just small talk, being this absent-minded isn't exactly respectful, is it?"
"Ques… question?" Chu Mu felt as if he'd been struck by lightning and looked up at Chu Ge, his mind racing, finally recalling what Chu Ge had just asked him. Yet he was sweating profusely, still unsure of how to respond.
Chu Ge slightly curled his lips. "What? You can't possibly have forgotten what I just asked you, can you?"
"N-no, you asked why I didn't focus my attention on my father when I ca in—every single word, I rember them all."
Chu Mu stamred, shaking his head like a rattle-drum, flinging beads of sweat that flew off. Although he still hadn't thought of a suitable answer for Chu Ge's question, his mind was considerably clearer.
Chu Ge grinned without comnt, but his face plainly read, "If that's the case, then stop dithering. Just speak up, spit it out, whatever it is."
"Because… because…"
Chu Mu's eyes spun rapidly. Although he couldn't grasp the true significance of Chu Ge's question and couldn't keep calm, he had to rack his brains desperately. He had no doubt that his answer ant his life would hang in the balance.
"Because… I know my father… he's not in life-threatening danger, so I, so I…"
After a long struggle, Chu Mu finally squeezed out a sentence, despite being unprepared and unsure if it was the best answer. He knew he couldn't hesitate any longer. At least, it was the most suitable answer he could think of at the mont, and following this line of thought, he could continue speaking.
Chu Ge scratched his head, skeptically looking at Chu Mu. "Oh? Look at his arm, and these two legs, plenty of bones are shattered."
As Chu Ge spoke, he fiddled with Chu Chengrui's arms and legs, positioning them in odd angles before Chu Mu's eyes, then pointed at Chu Chengrui's head.
"Look again, his eyes, nose, ears, mouth, his face is covered in blood, even his temple is collapsed. I'm really curious, how could you possibly think he's not in life-threatening danger? How did you arrive at that judgnt?"
Chu Ge's voice was soft and gentle, absent of any viciousness, but those words were like heavy hamrs pounding on Chu Mu's heart. Coupled with Chu Chengrui's grim state, the whole scenario made his skin crawl.
