Right after Christian left the dining hall, his assistant said, "Michael Lucas and Evan Boyle are here in Rheinsville City, and they’re trying to pinpoint our location. Judging from their speed, they will find us in three days. Our best option now is to change our location. We can no longer stay here."
This was Christian’s base. If they left this place, they would have to be constantly on the run. Wendy had only been hypnotized the day before, and she was already beginning to suspect Christian. If Christian decided to relocate at this ti, Wendy would suspect him even more.
His assistant seed to know what Christian was thinking, so he hurriedly added, "It’s not the ti to fret over Ms. Stewart now, Mr. Lucas. Once they discover our location, it’ll be too late for us to run. This ti, they’ve brought enough people to take down all of us."
"I know," Christian said calmly.
His assistant did not know what Christian ant, so he asked, "What do you an?
Are we moving everyone away?"
"Keep an eye on Michael and Evan. Be prepared to move any ti," Christian said.
"So you an we’re not moving now?" His assistant continued to try to convince him, "This is the best chance to move, Mr. Lucas. The later we move, the riskier it’ll be."
"Just do as I say!" Christian glared at his assistant.
From his tone, the assistant knew that Christian had already made up his mind. He sighed and went on his way to carry out Christian’s orders. He had only taken a few steps when Christian closed his eyes and stopped him. "We’ll move tomorrow. Make the necessary arrangents."
His assistant breathed a sigh of relief when he heard that. "Yes, I’ll do that now," he said.
If Michael was already here, he could not stay. But Christian had many loose ends to tie up. After all, most of his major clients were in the city.
Back at the dining table, Wendy noticed that Zen’s eyes were transfixed on Christian as he left. She pressed her lips together but eventually decided to ask, "Are you alright, Zen? You were staring at Christian..."
Before Wendy could finish her sentence, Zen explained to her, "No, don’t overthink, Wendy. I didn’t..." Zen stopped mid sentence. She realized that she did not know what she was talking about. Christian Lucas was not a part of her mories.
All she knew was that Christian was Wendy’s husband. What happened to her?
Zen placed a hand over her rapidly beating heart. She looked at Wendy, then at the maid behind them.
"I don’t want to lie to you, Wendy, but I don’t know what’s going on," she said very softly. "When I saw Christian, I realized that I’ve never seen him before, and I don’t have any mories of him. The mont I saw him, I feel an inexplicable sense of panic, and I don’t know why."
Wendy could see the panic in Zen’s eyes. She believed that Zen was telling the truth. After all, both of them had lost part of their mories, and their current situation was indeed quite peculiar.
If Zen reacted so violently upon seeing Christian, it must an that there was a problem with Wendy’s mories of Christian too.
Wendy held Zen’s hands, which were trembling slightly, and said, "Don’t be afraid.
Let’s go back to the room."
Wendy helped Zen get up and prepared to go upstairs. They were currently in the dining hall, and the maid would occasionally walk past them. That was not a suitableplace to talk. It was better to talk in their room.
Christian had given them cellphones. Wendy wanted to search for sothing.
...
The two won went to Wendy’s bedroom. Once they went inside, Wendy imdiately closed the door and locked it.
They sat on the couch. Wendy held Zen’s hand, and she could still see the panic in her eyes. "I think that there’s sothing fishy about this, Zen," Wendy said grimly.
Zen frowned. She was puzzled as she asked, "What do you an?"
"I searched the entire room last night, and I couldn’t find any communication devices," Wendy said.
"No communication devices? What does that an?" Zen was still confused about what Wendy was trying to say.
"Let’s put it this way. I suspect that Christian Lucas isn’t my husband, or that we don’t enjoy a good relationship." Wendy might have lost her mories, but her instincts told her that she should stay away from Christian.
She did not want Christian to touch her, nor did she want Christian to pick any food for her. She did not even enjoy Christian gazing at her. If they were really a lovingly married couple, she should not have behaved like that, even if she had lost her mories. Zen’s reaction when she saw Christian had also raised Wendy’s suspicions.
According to Christian, they were suffering from amnesia because Michael had erased their mories. Michael loved Wendy, so it was plausible that he erased her mories. But why did Michael erase Zen’s mories though? Why would Michael not want Zen to rember Christian?
Zen had even said that she did not rember how Christian looked like, but she felt an inexplicable sense of panic whenever she saw him. From there, Wendy concluded that there was sothing more between Zen and Christian.
"That can’t be," Zen blurted. "If Christian isn’t your husband, who else could it be?
And Christian has always been nice to you."
"You say that Christian has always been nice to , but do you rember exactly how he has been nice to ?" Wendy asked.
"Well..." Zen could not rember anything.
"In any case, I think that there’s sothing really fishy about this, and I’ll have to get to the bottom of it," Wendy said.
"How do we do that?" Zen might have lost her mories, but she trusted Wendy. As far as she rembered, she and Wendy were good friends.
Wendy took out her cellphone and waved it at Zen. "Let’s search for any information about Michael Lucas."
She unlocked her cellphone and entered Michael Lucas’s na in the browser. Zen leaned over and took a look.
Soon, information about Michael appeared on the screen. Wendy read the first search result: Michael Lucas, thirty-four years old, CEO of MC Enterprise in Lake City.
He is a fugitive drug lord and is currently wanted by Interpol for his involvent in multiple drug deals involving hundreds of billions of dollars. Using his status as CEO of MC Enterprise, he tried to bring drugs into Lake City, but his ploy was discovered.
Anyone who has information on this individual should contact Interpol. There will be a reward of one million dollars upon his arrest.
Wendy briefly read through the article. Then, she looked at the photo. Michael Lucas was a plain-looking man. She did not have any impression of him. Wendy turned the screen to Zen and asked, "Do you rember this person?"
Zen looked at it and shook her head.
"I don’t either," Wendy said.
"Michael erased our mories. Isn’t it normal if we don’t rember his face?" Zen said.
....
"Is that normal?" Wendy did not think so. The information she had found was similar to what Christian told her, but Wendy had a gut feeling that it was not true.
"Can you do a search for Michael Lucas on your cellphone?" Wendy asked Zen.
Zen nodded. It yielded the sa search results.
"You must be overthinking, Wendy," Zen said. "Your brain must be muddled because of your pregnancy."
Upon hearing that, Wendy could only sigh helplessly.
"Zen, have you realized that we don’t seem to be in Lake City now?" Wendy said.
"Most of the maids in the house seem to be foreigners too."
"It ans that we’re in a different city. Maybe Christian brought you out on a vacation, or maybe this might be your vacation ho?" Zen said.
"Never mind, we’ll talk about this later," Wendy said. "How is your leg? Can you walk?"
Zen turned her head to look at her leg and nodded. "I can walk slowly. Are we going sowhere?"
"Let’s take a walk outside." Wendy stood up and reached out to support Zen. She wanted to see what the outside looked like. She could not be at ease as long as her mories did not return.
Wendy helped Zen walk down the stairs. When she saw the maid, she said, "Can you prepare a walking stick for ? Zen and I want to go out for a walk."
"Do you want to go out for a walk, Mrs. Lucas?" The maid sounded obviously flustered.
Wendy noticed it and replied with a question, "Why can’t I?"
"Well..." The maid blinked and said, "I’ll ask Mr. Lucas."
"Do I need to ask for permission from Christian to go out and have a walk?" Wendy asked her doubtfully.
Was she not free to move about in the house?
"I didn’t an that..." The maid quickly found an excuse and smiled. "Mr. Lucas is worried about you because you’re pregnant. I’ll have to tell him every ti you go out so that he can get soone to protect you. After all, Mr. Lucas doesn’t want an accident to happen again."
Wendy could not find any flaws in the maid’s explanation. But she continued to train her eyes on the maid. Wendy said nothing while the maid left to give Christian a call.
At that mont, Christian was watching a video on his cellphone. The cellphones he had given to Wendy and Zen had been tampered with. He had found soone to make up information about Michael. He had also installed surveillance software in their cellphones.
Any activity on their cellphones would be transmitted to him, and he could check on them at any ti. He was not surprised at all to find out that Wendy had used her cellphone to search for any information on Michael Lucas.
He knew that Wendy was an intelligent woman, and she would eventually question why she had lost her mories. What he did not expect was that Wendy had suspected him so quickly.
Christian had done all he could do to prevent that from happening, but Wendy had suspected him anyway.
Seeing the call notification on his cellphone, Christian took the call. The maid said, "Mr. Lucas, Mrs. Lucas wants to take a walk with Ms. Tanner."
Christian was driving. He was on the way to et a client. He hesitated for a while before replying, "Tell her to wait. I’ll accompany her instead," he replied.
Christian did not want Wendy and Zen to go out of the house without him. If that happened, he might not be able to deal with the consequences.
