Christian fed Wendy with a mixture of truths and lies. Wendy could not tell the difference. Incomplete mories occasionally flashed in her mind.

Seeing that Wendy was deep in thought, Christian said, "It’s getting late. You should rest."

Indeed, he was rather afraid. He was afraid that Wendy might rember sothing.

Even if she did not rember anything, Wendy was an intelligent woman, and she would eventually suspect sothing.

Soone who had lost their mory would usually feel insecure. It was not surprising if Wendy beca wary of him. The hypnotist had injected several artificial mories into her brain, but they could not be substitutes for her real mories.

That was why Christian did not want to give her too much ti to think.

Christian had invited Wendy on a walk in the garden to improve their relationship.

He hoped that Wendy would co to trust him and hate Michael. He did not expect Wendy to find loopholes in his lies. If they continued with this conversation, Wendy would noticed that sothing was amiss.

Moreover, even though Christian had told her that Michael was the one who caused her miscarriage, she did not seem to show any hatred toward Michael. Instead, she asked who the other woman was. The hypnotist had tried to make her hate Michael, but she could not seem to do so.

Wendy had many more questions to ask, but she could tell that Christian was not keen to answer them. She did not know if Christian was telling her the truth. If Christian’s words were true, it ant that she was overthinking. However, if Christian was lying, she could not let him know that she was suspecting sothing.

What she had to do next was to find out the truth. First of all, she needed her cellphone. She had to find out more about Michael Lucas and see how he looked like.

Wendy nodded and went back to the room with Christian. Back in the room, Wendy saw that Christian had no intention of leaving her alone. She hesitated for a while and asked, "Um, aren’t you leaving? I’m going to wash up and go to bed."

"This is my room too," Christian said with a smile. "We’re husband and wife, and this is our room."

"I know, but I’m not very comfortable with that for now. Could you sleep in another room?" Wendy imdiately explained herself. "Otherwise, I could sleep in another room."

Wendy instinctively rejected any physical intimacy with Christian. She did not want to sleep in the sa room as him.

Seeing that Wendy was about to leave the room, Christian stopped her and sighed helplessly. "Alright then, I’ll sleep in another room for now, but rember that we’re a married couple, and I hope that I don’t have to be away from you for too long."

Wendy nodded.

While Christian was about to leave, Wendy said, "Right, Christian, I wanted to ask you, where is my cellphone?"

Wendy had been trying to excuse herself so she could search for her cellphone. But when she thought about it carefully, she realized that Christian would be the only person who knew where it was.

Christian stopped walking, turned around, and looked at her.

Wendy explained, "I was thinking of browsing Twitter or sothing before I sleep. If I can’t sleep, I might get bored."

Christian’s gaze wavered when he saw the eagerness in Wendy’s eyes. He hesitated for a while before saying, "You lost your cellphone when Michael abducted you. I’ll get you a new one tomorrow. Staring at your cellphone so late at night isn’t good for your eyes anyway. If you can’t sleep, you can co and look for next door."

...

What Christian said sowhat made sense. If what he said were true, Michael would not have let Wendy access her cellphone in captivity. Wendy nodded when she saw the gentle smile on Christian’s face.

After Christian left the room, Wendy went over to the door and closed it. Her hand paused at the door handle for a mont. She hesitated for a while before locking the door. She did not know why she did so, but she had a feeling that she had to.

After that, she carefully inspected the room’s interior. She wanted to see if there was anything out of the ordinary. After a round of searching, she did not find anything strange in the room, except for the fact that it was devoid of tablets, cellphones, or any electronic device that allowed communication.

Wendy stood in the middle of the room and looked around her. She could not help but frown. If Christian said that she had lost her cellphone when she was abducted by Michael, and Christian had not bought a new one for her, why would there not be even a tablet in the entire room?

But there was a television. Wendy turned it on. The television was connected to the Internet, but it did not have any capability to send ssages or make calls. She could only watch movies with it.

In other words, there was nothing in the room that she could use to contact the outside world. By now, Wendy’s earlier suspicions grew even stronger. If this was indeed their room, there should be at least a communication device in it.

She took a deep breath to calm herself down. Then, she lay on the bed and stared at the ceiling. She blinked and tried to recall everything related to Christian that had happened. Eventually, she fell asleep.

Wendy looked at the ti when she woke up the next morning. It was already so ti past eight o’clock. She washed her face and went out of the room.

When she walked past Zen’s room, she wanted to knock on the door. But Zen ca out of the room before she could do so.

Zen’s injuries were rather serious. She limped when she walked, and she seed to be struggling. Wendy imdiately reached out to support her. "Let help you."

Zen did not refuse Wendy’s offer. She smiled and nodded.

"Did you rest well?" Wendy asked out of concern. "Do your wounds still hurt? You have to tell if you’re uncomfortable. Don’t keep it to yourself. There are doctors here, and they’ll help you if you have any problems."

"Don’t worry. The doctors have already examined yesterday." Zen patted the back of Wendy’s hand, indicating that she should not worry.

"Let’s go downstairs and have breakfast." Wendy helped Zen down the stairs.

When the maid saw them in the dining hall, she imdiately brought out the cutlery and served a sumptuous spread of food.

"Mrs. Lucas, Ms. Tanner, I hope the breakfast today is to your liking. Please let us know if there’s anything that you don’t like, and we’ll make sothing else for you," the maid said respectfully.

Wendy looked at the spread and smiled. "I like all of them, and I am satisfied. Thank you."

"You’re welco, Mrs. Lucas." The maid smiled and nodded when she heard that.

Then, she stood by the side.

Wendy was not used to soone standing next to her watching her eat. When she was about to say sothing, Christian ca in.

He walked in front of Wendy, smiled gently, and took out two cellphones. "I got soone to buy new cellphones for you."

...

"Thank you." Wendy took the cellphones and gave one of them to Zen.

"They’re both new cellphones. We’ll take one each." Wendy noticed that the phones were of the sa model but had different colors. She said, "You like pink, right? You can have the pink one. I’ll take the white one."

Zen did not imdiately take the cellphone that Wendy gave her. Wendy turned her head to look at Zen and frowned. "Don’t you want it?"

"I do..." Zen ca to her senses and took the cellphone from Wendy’s hand.

Wendy noticed that Zen seed flustered earlier. She turned her head and looked in the direction where Zen was looking earlier and found that Zen had been looking at Christian.

There seed to be sothing strange about Zen’s gaze when she looked at Christian, but Wendy could not tell what it was.

It should not have been Zen’s first ti seeing Christian, so why did she seem so surprised?

At that mont, Zen’s heart was thumping hard. She took a deep breath to try to calm herself down. Her mind was occupied by Christian’s face. Zen had always known that Christian was Wendy’s husband, and they had a loving relationship.

She had always envied Christian and Wendy, and she hoped that she would find a boyfriend that would treat her as well as Christian treated Wendy.

Unfortunately, she had never managed to find such a man. If Wendy was Christian’s wife and Zen was Wendy’s good friend, Zen should have t Christian before.

However, Zen seed not to have an impression of what Christian looked like. Now that she saw him, she thought that he seed sowhat familiar, and she was quite sure that she had seen him before.

Zen racked her brains but could not recall anything related to Christian.

"Nice to et you, Ms. Tanner. I’m Christian Lucas, Wendy’s husband. We’ve t many tis." Seeing Zen’s expression, Christian took the initiative to greet her.

Zen took another deep breath and finally found the courage to lift her head. She stood up and reached out to shake Christian’s hand. Her arm was trembling uncontrollably.

After a brief handshake, Zen quickly pulled her hand away. "Nice to et you."

Zen’s gaze had been wavering, as though she dared not look at Christian in the eye.

Christian smiled but said nothing. He sat down on a chair.

"I hope you don’t mind joining you for breakfast?" Christian asked them.

Before Wendy could say anything, Zen spoke, "We’re in your ho. That’s not up to to decide."

"I hope that the breakfast suits your tastes, Ms. Tanner, and I apologize if my hospitality falls short of your expectations," Christian nodded slightly and said diplomatically.

"This is fine... This is fine..." Zen mumbled repeatedly. She lowered her head and dared not et Christian’s gaze.

Wendy noticed Zen’s strange behavior.

’Why is Zen behaving so weirdly?’ Halfway through breakfast, Christian’s assistant ca in hurriedly. He leaned close to Christian’s ear and said, "Bad news, Mr. Lucas..." Christian continued to eat his breakfast calmly, though he seed dissatisfied with his assistant’s behavior. "You’ve been working with for a while, yet you still don’t know the rules."

The assistant instantly took one step back and apologized. "I’m sorry, Mr. Lucas."

He dared not disturb Christian again, but he seed to get increasingly anxious.

Evidently, there was sothing important that he had to tell his boss.

After finishing his al, Christian glanced at Wendy, then stood up and said, "I’m off to handle so matters."

Wendy nodded.
