Wendy made it clear. If Todd was still unwilling to say anything, he was simply pushing Wendy to investigate HG.
He did it with an intention to protect her, but he might put her into an even more dangerous situation then.
Wendy looked into Todd’s eyes and asked, "Do you know Christian before this? I an, have you known Christian in other channels besides his identity as Michael’s younger brother from another mother?"
Wendy needed to clarify the relationship between Todd and Christian first.
Todd hesitated. He didn’t shake his head nor did he nod.
Judging from his response, Wendy understood.
"So you knew Christian long ago, did you?"
Looking at Todd slowly nodding his head, Wendy wasn’t surprised.
Previously, Wendy had been asking Todd regarding things related to Christian. Todd’s expression changed, and he avoided eye contact with her.
She asked further, "Are you on Christian’s side?"
Wendy quickly added, "I hope that you can be frank with ."
Wendy paused for a while before she spoke again, "I also believe that you would tell the truth."
"Would you believe if I say I am not?" Todd answered, looking at Wendy sincerely.
Wendy slowly nodded her head. "I will believe in what you say. If I don’t, why will I bother asking you?"
It was true. Wendy had always trusted Todd.
Forget about all the other matters. She knew Todd for many years, and they used to work in the sa company.
If Wendy were to trust the wrong person, there was sothing amiss with her judgnt. She couldn’t bla anyone for it.
Todd heaved a sigh of relief when he heard Wendy’s answer.
He was worried that Wendy got the wrong idea that he was related to Christian.
However, it wasn’t the first ti Wendy asked him about Christian.
Todd had a bad feeling. He asked, "Corrine, why do you keep asking about Christian?"
"Because I knew that Christian is the boss behind HG long ago... I needed to confirm your relationship with him," Wendy briefly explained.
Todd responded, confused, "What did you say? You an Christian is the boss behind HG?"
Wendy examined Todd’s response, looking at the change of his expression carefully.
He didn’t look like he was pretending to be shocked, but it was the sa response when Wendy first heard of it.
In other words, Todd didn’t know Christian’s relationship with HG...
"You didn’t know? Didn’t you say earlier that you know Christian? How do you know him if you didn’t know he is the boss of HG?" Wendy was confused.
"I..." Todd wanted to say sothing, but he held his tongue.
"Do you still refuse to tell even now?" Wendy said. She sounded like she was in a hurry. "Todd, I know that you don’t want to go back to HG because you are worried for my safety... But I am telling you, the reason why I went back to HG and wanted the shares is that I know that there’s sothing wrong with HG.
"I wanted to be on the board of directors because I want to know what was going on in HG.
"I never expected our ntor to give the shares but refused for to join the board of directors.
"Even the transfer of shares was done by our ntor on behalf of soone else.
"Todd, I really need your help.
"I believe that you wouldn’t just sit and watch the directors in HG lived freely with complete impunity."
Todd clenched his fists tightly when she ntioned ’lived freely with complete impunity’. He lifted his head in fear, looking at Wendy. He said with a shivering voice, "You know about that too?"
"Yes, I know it all. So, I want to know everything that you know about HG," Wendy said, nodding determinedly.
Todd was shocked. "If you know so much, how dare you dive into HG? Corrine, you can’t win against the entire HG alone. HG is established in Rheinsville City for decades. They have a strong foundation and complicated connections. Once our ntor finds out the purpose of you staying back, he might neglect your relationship as ntor and ntee."
"If you said so," Wendy replied nonchalantly. "I think I already got the answer I want." She felt her heart weighing down.
It seed that Timothy was involved in criminal activities too.
If Timothy was involved, it would be impossible that Christian was innocent.
The entire HG might be a huge criminal ring.
"Corrine, don’t be like this. I’m really scared..." Todd reached for Wendy’s hand anxiously. The concern across his face was genuine. "Please, just give up. Think of it...," he pleaded, "think of it as repaying our ntor for saving your life and ntoring you in your career.
"Be like . Leave HG and start your own. Or you can co to Lewis Design Company.
"The things about HG, let’s just pretend we have no idea about it. Can you do that instead?"
Wendy shook her head. "There’s no turning back. I was different from you back then.
"You can leave HG with no worries. You can turn a blind eye because of what our ntor did for you. But I can’t.
"Christian is fighting against Michael in a tender for a project now. Christian’s DR in Lake City has already beco an empty shell long ago. He now relies on HG for all his resources and money.
"I stay back not to make money for HG but to find an opportunity to defeat Christian in one blow.
"My relationship with HG and my old personal scores with Christian are far beyond my gratitude towards our ntor. It couldn’t be canceled out."
Todd saw that Wendy already reined her hand back in silence. Listening to what she said, Todd felt hopeless.
Suddenly, the corners of his lips twitched and then he laughed at himself. "So, you did everything, risking your life, all because of Michael?"
Todd felt that he was a joke.
"No..." Wendy shook her head, explaining, "To be exact, it isn’t entirely for Michael.
"It was due to Christian’s instructions why our ntor saved and guided back then.
"And the reason why I fell into the ocean was that Christian sent people to kidnap and push into the ocean.
"Would you still ask to leave HG?"
Wendy actually didn’t want to bring up what happened in the past.
However, based on the current situation, she wanted Todd to side with her. Thus, she had to make it clear to him.
Todd was overwheld by what he learned that day. "What you an is that everything was planned by Christian? He sent people to kidnap you and got our ntor to guide you in your career so that you would feel very much indebted to him? In turn, you would spare no effort in making money for HG. Then, he would use the money that you earn to deal with Michael?"
Todd quickly connected the dots after hearing what Wendy said.
Wendy nodded her head, and then Todd leaned back on his chair, sighing.
"So, it’s impossible for to turn a blind eye like you did. It is not for Michael but for myself and my two children. I have to exact revenge." Wendy looked at Todd with anticipation and continued, "I know that you care about your relationship with our ntor, but he’s not just a director of the group. We know that HG is involved in criminal activities, and so is our ntor. I hope that you will tell everything you know. Please?"
Todd remained silent for a long while.
The silence in the private room was deafening.
Wendy didn’t hurry Todd into a decision.
She understood that it was a really difficult decision for him to make.
Ti was ticking slowly, and it felt like forever to both Wendy and Todd.
Todd finally spoke, "I do know Christian way back, but I didn’t know that he’s the boss behind HG before this.
"I only know that Christian is connected to Mr. Woods.
"I used to think Christian was working for Mr. Woods or he might be one of the directors in HG, but I have never thought that his position is way higher than that.
"The reason why I left HG two years ago wasn’t that the negotiation of the share broke down.
"It was because I overheard Mr. Woods’s phone call with another person. He said that he would carry out the demand to send people to kill a person. The murder would be done spotlessly, and the leaked evidence would be retrieved and kept safely or whatnot.
"I couldn’t believe that I would hear things like murder coming out from Mr. Woods’s mouth. Plus, he said it so calmly.
"After I found out about that, I was terrified for a very long ti. I was afraid that Mr. Woods might take action against if he found out I heard his secret.
"But in the end, Mr. Woods found out anyway. He talked to once, offering shares and inviting into the board of directors.
"I, of course, didn’t have the courage to accept the shares. I requested to excuse myself from HG and to be on my own.
"I was really afraid back then. But I know that if I stayed, it would an I have to join Mr. Woods in his evil doings.
"I didn’t want to do anything against the law.
"Mr. Woods offered a few days’ ti to think things through.
"Actually, I was already prepared to lose my life after finding out Mr. Woods’s huge secret after all.
"Fortunately, Mr. Woods didn’t pursue any actions against , taking our relationship as ntor and ntee into considerations.
"Needless to say, as an exchange, I have to keep whatever I know as a secret for the rest of my life and not tell anyone.
"So, I promised him.
"To , it is already good news that Mr. Woods is willing to let off the hook.
"No matter what, I’m heavily indebted to Mr. Woods.
"Plus, I don’t have any evidence. I rely overheard what he said on a phone call.
"That’s why I didn’t want to tell you anything when you asked about HG last ti.
"But who would have guessed that you already found out?
"After I left HG, I started Lewis Design Company.
"I actually considered going into a different industry, but I realized that I wasn’t good at anything else.
"As for Christian’s identity, I wasn’t sure which Christian was Mr. Woods in touch with. There are so many Christians in this world after all.
"However, after I beca acquainted with Michael in Lake City and got to know Christian, I managed to figure out the story."
Wendy nodded slowly, but her heart was heavy.
The truth turned out to be so.
Wendy could understand Todd’s thoughts and actions.
To Todd, Timothy did train him. He was heavily indebted to Timothy.
It was perfectly understandable that he kept the secret for Timothy’s sake.
However, to Wendy, the so-called favor of him saving her and ntoring her was deceitful.
To Wendy, everything that happened was a trap set up by them.
Hence, since the day she found out that Christian was the boss behind HG, she bore no gratitude towards her ntor.
"Then, do you know who the person Mr. Woods was referring to when he talked about the murder? And, what’s the evidence?" Wendy asked further.
