Chapter 94: Chapter 90: I am a Secular Man

Suppressing a smile, Chu Yu looked at Tian Rujing with all the seriousness she could muster, and said, “Besides the Heavenly Book and the Light Shield, what else can this… Divine Artifact do?”

This ti, Tian Rujing did not demonstrate as she had hoped. Perhaps he had sobered up from the astonishnt Chu Yu had caused him. He was no longer absent-mindedly led by the nose by her but had regained that nearly penetrating indifference, ignoring Chu Yu’s question.

Not talking? It’s okay if you won’t talk, I have other thods.

Chu Yu shrugged her shoulders, picked up the paper with the twenty-six English letters, and waved it in front of Tian Rujing. As she moved the paper, his gaze involuntarily followed along.

Even if Tian Rujing was extrely indifferent, even if he appeared unconcerned with worldly matters, he was still a human being at the end of the day and couldn’t truly detach himself entirely, incapable of truly being indifferent to everything.

Seeing Tian Rujing’s behavior, Chu Yu felt a slight sense of joy. This appearance of his was much more agreeable than his otherworldly deanor.

...

Although he seed unknowledgeable about worldly affairs, Tian Rujing wasn’t really ignorant, he simply chose to ignore them. Whatever others wanted to do, he understood very well. He knew Chu Yu was tempting him to take the bait; her actions suggested she knew the aning of those symbols and wanted to use this knowledge to negotiate so form of exchange with him.

If he wanted to understand the aning of those symbols, he would have to make a serious compromise in so aspect, and it might even an allowing her a deeper understanding of the mysteries of the Divine Artifact.

It was a dangerous and unfavorable deal for him.

However… those symbols were the puzzle his lineage from Yunjin Mountain had wanted to solve for generations, tornting many over many years, becoming a belief etched in the hearts of its inheritors. Yet unexpectedly, in Tian Rujing’s generation, the dawn of a solution appeared from an unforeseen individual.

How could he not be tempted?

As Tian Rujing pondered and struggled on his own, Chu Yu put away the paper with the English letters, watching him coolly from the side without urging him on or disturbing him. Convincing Tian Rujing to make a decision wasn’t easy; after all, it was surely a matter of great importance to him. She needed to give him space to think, not to rush him too much.

At this mont, she was in no hurry.

Currently, she and Tian Rujing each held cards the other was unaware of; the majority of Tian Rujing’s cards were in that bracelet. What information and functions it contained were what Chu Yu wanted to find out. On the other hand, Chu Yu’s trump card was herself.

Although Tian Rujing was the current owner of the bracelet, Chu Yu was the one who could best understand its significance.

Now that Tian Rujing had no idea about Chu Yu’s background, but Chu Yu had a general understanding of the nature of the bracelet, the gap in knowledge determined that the advantage lay with Chu Yu.

After thinking for quite so ti, Tian Rujing finally spoke, “I need to go back and think this over.” He turned and walked towards the door, forgetting that he was standing not far from it. He took a couple of dazed steps and was about to run into the door when the blue Light Shield suddenly appeared and forcefully pushed the doors open, sparing his forehead from pain.

Watching this scene from behind him, Chu Yu frowned and made a ntal note: Tian Rujing was not a showy or boisterous person, and just now he was indeed in a trance, certainly not quick enough to react to the obstruction ahead. It seems that the Light Shield could be activated automatically.

Watching Tian Rujing leave her field of vision, Chu Yu let out a long breath, relaxing her tense mood. Suddenly she felt exhausted, too lazy to think about anything.

After zoning out for a while, You Lan ca to ask if she wanted to eat. Only then did Chu Yu realize it was already noon. She waved You Lan away, closed the slightly ajar door that Tian Rujing had pushed open, turned, and walked into the bedroom. She looked at the bed for a mont before collapsing onto it bonelessly, burying her face in the soft feathers of the duvet.

With her eyes closed, she couldn’t see anything. In the dark silence, she felt a disconcerting sense of being abandoned by the entire world.

Chu Yu clenched the corner of the duvet tightly, her shoulders trembling slightly.

She missed ho terribly.

Though she had firmly told herself that all was in the past and people must look forward and not dwell on yesterday, during these days she had done well in heeding her own advice, actively planning for the future. The occasional thoughts of the past did not linger; she would just smile and let them pass.
