Chapter 254: Chapter 231: Unsafe Places Chapter 254: Chapter 231: Unsafe Places Chu Yu had been demurely casting her gaze downward, playing the part of a maid, but upon hearing the young man’s words, she couldn’t help but lift her eyes in shock and look towards the youth, only to see an expression of indifference in his eyes, devoid of any peculiar emotions.

Gathering her composure, her gaze filled with surprise and doubt as she subconsciously sought out Guan Canghai’s attention.

Could the young man have discovered sothing?

Chu Yu did not believe that the young man was truly smitten with her. Given what the youth had displayed, it was possible to infer his extrely high status—the kind that would have seen all manner of won. What type of stunning beauty could he not obtain if he wished?

She might not be as brilliantly intelligent as Rong Zhi, but Chu Yu still possessed the self-awareness to know that although her appearance could be considered refined and beautiful, it was not enticing enough to stir the heart of soone like the young man, let alone convince him to lower himself to ask Guan Canghai for her.

However, Chu Yu couldn’t simply refuse at that mont. Her current role was that of a maid, whose coming and going should be decided by Guan Canghai. If she were to reveal her true identity now to avoid being taken away, not only would she lose the chance to eavesdrop openly in the future, but she would also be hindering Guan Canghai’s plans.

Though she didn’t know the identity of the young man, Chu Yu felt that letting him know Guan Canghai was helping an outsider to investigate his identity would be sowhat inappropriate.

A reckless mistake was already enough with Hua Cuo.

Of course, Chu Yu also believed that Guan Canghai would undoubtedly reject the young man’s request without hesitation.

The next mont, Chu Yu felt a tightness around her waist and was then pulled into a warm embrace. The faint scent of herbal dicine quickly enveloped her, rendering her stiff and unable to move.

Chu Yu’s eyes widened slightly as she heard a hearty laugh above her head, “I’m flattered by your interest, but this maid is soone I hold very dear, and it would be inconvenient to part with her. If you don’t mind, I have plenty of beautiful maids here; feel free to choose any you like.”

Chu Yu genuinely did not know whether she should slap Guan Canghai across the face, shouting “Scoundrel!” before standing up, or if she should play along with Guan Canghai’s words and coo softly, “My lord, there are others present.” Lacking the strength for the forr and the shalessness for the latter, after hesitating for half a second, Chu Yu opted for a compromise. Turning slightly, she pretended to be shy and buried her face entirely in Guan Canghai’s chest to prevent the young man from seeing her inappropriate expression.

The youth appeared sowhat surprised, but quickly regained his composure and asked, “Really, there’s no room for compromise?”

Guan Canghai held Chu Yu with one arm, his forearm steady and powerful, trapping her body within his embrace and away from escape, while his other hand gently stroked her hair, smiling as he spoke, “Please forgive , but this one, I simply cannot give to you.”

The young man’s lips curled into an inscrutable smile. With her back to the youth, Chu Yu could not see his expression and worried about what move he might make next. After a while, she heard the sound of footsteps receding, followed by the rumble of a carriage rolling away and the synchronized steps of his retinue fading into the distance.

As Chu Yu listened to the sound of the youth riding away with his entourage, she finally allowed herself to relax. Rolling her eyes, she spoke up, “Hey, Guan Canghai, the person has already left; how much longer do you plan to hold on to ?”

The next instant, Chu Yu felt the grip on her waist loosen, and she put her hands on Guan Canghai’s shoulders for support, almost jumping out of his embrace. Although she knew Guan Canghai’s actions were for the sake of the performance, the excessively intimate contact still embarrassed her.

Just monts ago, she was practically lying in Guan Canghai’s arms, her body pressed tightly against his with scarcely any gap between them. The steady warmth that radiated through the fabric of their clothes was nothing like Rong Zhi’s slight and cool touch. It was a reassuring temperature, strong and encompassing like a mountain.

Once steady on her feet, Chu Yu couldn’t resist glaring at Guan Canghai. Upon seeing the silk scarf covering his eyes, she rembered that he was blind after all. Guan Canghai’s actions were so much like those of a person with sight that she often forgot that he was, in fact, visually impaired.

Guan Canghai offered a faint smile and carelessly picked up the wine jug beside him, pouring and drinking by himself.

In that short mont, Chu Yu had cast aside her embarrassnt and panic: it was just a hug, and it was for the sake of a convincing act, to discourage the young man from his attempts. Guan Canghai had already let her go, what was there for her to hold onto?

With that thought, Chu Yu’s heart found relief as well.

Her purpose for today’s visit was fulfilled, and Chu Yu bid Guan Canghai farewell.

Even though Guan Canghai’s ho and her own Chu Garden were neighbors, to return ho she would first have to exit through Guan Canghai’s receiving room, take a long walk to the gate, then turn a corner and walk a bit further to arrive at her own door. As Chu Yu walked toward the gate, she contemplated whether to suggest to Guan Canghai that they should have a door made in the high wall separating their hos for convenience. Suddenly, she heard an unusual whistling sound behind her head, and before she could beco alert, a pain in the back of her head engulfed her in darkness.

*************************************************************

She had been abducted.

When she awoke again, Chu Yu’s first realization was this acknowledgnt. Fortunately, she had been abducted before and now faced the situation again, barely managing to keep her composure and observe her surroundings.

Chu Yu rubbed the back of her head which still ached slightly and slowly climbed up from the bed.

This was a simply decorated bedroom, consisting of only a bed, a dresser with a mirror, and a screen fra. Besides her, there was no one else in the room and no ropes or chains or anything else used to bind her. It seed that once her captor had brought her here, they had simply left her on the bed without further care.

Their actions were either excessively negligent, or they had utmost confidence in their security asures.

Recalling the monts before she lost consciousness, Chu Yu could roughly guess who had kidnapped her. It wasn’t long before the door diagonally across from her was pushed open, and the person standing in the doorway confird her suspicion.

It was the sa young man who had failed to obtain her from Guan Canghai.

Chu Yu quickly understood the cause and effect. The young man had pretended to leave but had rely moved out of Guan Canghai’s line of sight. He then had his people lie in wait on the path she would take when leaving, to knock her unconscious and bring her here.

Although Guan Canghai’s mansion was vast, it was not heavily staffed, nor did it have many guards. Guan Canghai himself, being strong, did not require protection; this did not an that his ho was entirely safe. On the contrary, where Guan Canghai could not see, anyone could intrude, anyone could do as they pleased.

Chu Yu had overlooked this fact, believing that because Guan Canghai would not hurt her, she subconsciously considered his ho as safe and did not bring any protectors with her, leading to her current predicant.

Silently reproaching herself for her oversight, Chu Yu steadfastly regarded the young man, waiting for him to speak.

Since he had not killed her but instead taken her away, he must have so sche in mind. She would see what the young man was up to.

The young man walked in slowly, made a gesture, and the guard waited outside. He scrutinized Chu Yu with an extrely stern gaze and said in a deep voice, “You do not seem to be panicking.”

As he spoke, his commanding and arrogant manner beca more pronounced, vaguely conveying a domineering air, which also highlighted his difference from Rong Zhi. Chu Yu sighed softly to herself, a slight smile on her face as she responded, “Even if I were panicking and pleading, it would be of no use. I would rather hear the young master’s reason for having brought here.”

Chu Yu straightened her upper body and looked directly at the young man, confronting his sharp and cold gaze openly and calmly, without showing any sign of flinching.
