Heartbreak was an understatent to explain what Laurel was feeling right now.

The anguish and the feeling of betrayal gnawed at her heart and suffocated her. She was crushed to learn Jas had been having an affair with Alia.

However, what shattered her even more was the fact that Carl knew, and he helped them to be together.

In that case, what was her role here? What was her position in this family?

Even after all the things she had done for them, they didn’t have the decency to tell her to her face that they didn’t want her anymore; instead, they humiliated her.

They saw her as a fool who could be lied to.

For soone as prideful as Laurel, being fooled and humiliated like this was even worse than anything she had suffered.

It was even worse than the way the Starling family treated her when she joined the family for the first ti ten years ago.

Whenever she saw them, she imagined they laughed at her ignorance.

"Laurel, are you okay?"

There was a knock on the door, and Jas’s voice traveled inside the room. The door was locked, and Laurel used a pillow to muffle her cries and screams.

He might hear her, or he might only worry because Laurel had been acting very strange ever since they arrived ho.

Currently, Laurel still occupied one of their guest bedrooms. She still refused to sleep in the sa room as him, let alone to lie down next to him.

"Laurel, open the door; let’s talk." Jas knocked again. "It has been a few days; you should have gotten over it."

How did he expect her to get over it when she just learned the way they stabbed her?

Now, everything made sense. She saw all the signs. She must be an idiot not to see them sooner. They made a fool of her.

Laurel didn’t know what got into her, but when she could no longer cry, she started laughing.

"Laurel, open the door!" Jas banged the door with his fists upon hearing her hysterical laughter.

[Please. I need you.]

[Please, et one more ti. I will explain everything.]

[et once, and I will never bother you again.]

Olivia groaned. She should stop reading the texts that Marcus sent to her and block his number. Yet, she couldn’t. She wanted to know what he was going to promise her, even though deep down she knew all of those promises were empty.

She had gone through this and fallen into the sa pattern. If she backed down now, everything would stay the sa.

Her logic knew that, but her heart was an idiot, and the thought of ’what if’ gave her hope that she didn’t need.

"Olivia."

Olivia almost dropped her phone when she saw Arthur sitting inside her hotel room. What the fuck was wrong with people like them?! How could they enter soone else’s private space as if they had the key for every locked door?!

Yet, she couldn’t curse at Arthur as she did to Arlo, since no matter what, she still respected him as the leader of the Lozen family and also because her family worked for him.

"Mr. Lozen," Olivia greeted him tightly. She stood close to the door while Arthur was sitting on the sofa.

"Sit, Olivia, there is sothing I want to talk to you about," Arthur said; he nodded at the sofa in front of him. He looked relaxed. "Sorry for the interruption."

No, he was not sorry at all. He had done this more often than he could count. He only wanted to smooth the conversation.

Having no other choice, Olivia sat down. "Is there anything I can help you with?"

"You know what I wanted to know." Arthur leaned his body over. His eyes fixed on her, and the intensity made Olivia avert her gaze. "Tell about River and the wedding dress that Hazel wore tonight on her wedding. What is the connection between them?"

Arthur had to co here because apparently Olivia decided to co to this city ahead of ti for the reason: she wanted to avoid Marcus.

That man had appeared twice since he left wildflowers on her doorstep, the first ti he ca to et her.

More so, only now could Arthur co because he had a lot of things to handle, especially with Aubrey’s current condition.

However, for the first ti after a long ti, he cared more about River and chose to leave Aubrey alone at the hospital since her condition was not concerning anymore.

She was fine, only a little bit depressed because Arlo attended today’s wedding.

This situation was within Olivia’s prediction. If Arlo had co to look for River, Arthur would have co to ask her the sa question.

Still, Olivia was not happy with this sudden visit. She was ntally exhausted with her own problem.

Yet, she couldn’t chase Arthur away. "I am not sure what the connection between Hazel Rose and River..." And she started to recall everything she knew; it was the sa information that she gave Arlo.

Hazel was woken up when she felt sothing cold touch her wrist; she imdiately opened her eyes and beca alerted only to see Ranon holding her hand.

"What are you doing?" Hazel yawned; she put down her guard when she saw him.

The sky was still dark out there, and the light was rather dim, but Hazel could still see his serious expression through her sleepiness.

"Why is your face like that?"

Out of curiosity, Hazel tried to stay awake and open her eyes to see what Ranon was doing. This man wrapped a few ice cubes inside a hand towel and dabbed it on her wrist.

"Your wrist is bruised," he said darkly.

"Bruised?" Hazel supported her body to look closely. What Ranon said was right; her left wrist was indeed bruised, and she rembered what caused it.

However, Ranon had connected the dots. He looked at her and spoke furiously. "Arlo Barlowe. He did this to you."
