"Wait for ." Seraphina Sinclair didn’t care what Desmond Fairchild thought, but he was right about one thing, if it was indeed in a remote mountainous area, it would be really dangerous, and she didn’t dare to take it lightly.
After all, he’s a free bodyguard, so why not make use of it.
Seraphina Sinclair imdiately got out of bed and washed up. She quickly got ready and went to the main door.
Silas Shaw seed to have been waiting for a while, dressed in casual attire, wearing sunglasses, leaning against the car, his tall figure attracting attention.
Seeing Seraphina co out, he imdiately opened the car door and made a gesture inviting her in.
Without saying anything to Desmond, Seraphina leaped over him and directly sat in the back seat.
Desmond’s body paused for a mont before he opened the car door and sat in the back seat with Seraphina.
His actions made Seraphina frown: "If you sit in the back, who’s going to drive?"
"Lately, my mind has been a bit off, so it’s not very safe for to drive." Desmond’s face was expressionless, and whether he was telling the truth was uncertain.
"So you need to drive?" Seraphina had no objections. She reached out to Desmond, "What’s the address? Give it to ."
Desmond remained unmoved, giving Seraphina a sidelong glance without a word.
"So what exactly do you want? If you’re not driving, fine, but if you won’t let drive, do you want to go or not? If you don’t want to go with , just give the address, and I’ll go by myself." Seraphina’s brows furrowed into a line, very dissatisfied with Desmond’s behavior.
Either go or don’t, stop dithering around like you’re not a man.
"Quentin Jennings will drive." Desmond explained in a low voice.
...
Just as Seraphina was about to say sothing, Quentin Jennings opened the car door, sat in the driver’s seat, and flashed a toothy smile at the two in the back: "All set, let’s head out."
Throughout the journey, Seraphina and Desmond didn’t speak, while Quentin kept the atmosphere lively, constantly introducing the roadside scenery and buildings, never stopping.
He was trying hard to liven up the atmosphere, so that Seraphina and Desmond wouldn’t feel too awkward. But who knew, these two acted like strangers, not looking at or acknowledging each other.
Originally, he thought if they could reconcile on this trip, his mission would be complete.
But seeing them like this, let alone reconciling, even getting a few more words out of them seed unlikely.
"It’s quite a long journey from here, would you like to take a short break?" Quentin thoughtfully suggested.
"No need, let’s keep going." Seraphina shook her head in refusal, "Since it’s a long journey, let’s not delay further."
He didn’t know what Polo’s parents were like, although he had seen so information before, but the details on paper weren’t comprehensive, so he’d have to see them in person to know.
The only thing was, Polo was in a large city hospital, so why did her parents live in such a remote small mountain village?
Logically, it shouldn’t be this way.
Seraphina’s expression remained serious, constantly wondering why this was the case.
Desmond seed to see through her thoughts and quietly explained: "The enormous dical expenses for Polo are astronomical for a regular family. They were both wage earners and didn’t own a house in the city. After paying for Polo’s chemotherapy, they couldn’t afford to rent a place in the city and had no choice but to return to the small mountain village."
"So, it’s not that they intended to abandon Polo, but they had no other option?" If that was indeed the case, Seraphina could understand.
"The information we have is just a reference; the real reason needs to be confird in person." Desmond said, turning his head to look at Seraphina’s slightly gaunt face.
In just two days of not seeing her, she seed to have lost weight significantly.
Seraphina felt that what Desmond said made sense. The information was just a reference, and the real situation could only be understood by speaking to Polo’s parents directly. If they had intentionally abandoned Polo, Seraphina would not simply let it go, but if they had their reasons, it was understandable.
The daunting dical fees indeed could crush them, but even if they couldn’t afford it, they shouldn’t just leave Polo in the hospital unattended.
This is not what parents should do.
Thinking about how to face Polo’s parents, she was suddenly interrupted by a gentle phone ringtone.
Desmond’s ringtone had never changed, always a standard system tone.
The soft piano piece sounded calming, almost making one drowsy.
The ringtone rang for a long ti, yet Desmond did not answer.
Seraphina couldn’t help but glance at him: "Why aren’t you answering your phone?"
"Just soone insignificant, it makes no difference whether I answer or not." Desmond said, outright rejecting the call.
This scene seed amusing to Seraphina: "So to you, a girlfriend is just soone insignificant?"
She had clearly seen the caller ID earlier; it was no insignificant person, it was plainly Nina Kerr.
With a bitter smile, she wondered if he thought the sa of her back then.
Desmond was silent for two seconds, then slowly responded: "She’s not my girlfriend."
"Everyone on Diamond Island knows about you and Nina, and now you claim she’s not. Wow, Nina is truly pitiful." Seraphina never expected Desmond to say such a thing.
Though she was dissatisfied with Desmond being with Nina, she never thought he would treat Nina this way. After all, Nina was a woman he had acknowledged.
She didn’t pity Nina, but she disapproved of Desmond’s attitude.
If dating is treated like a ga, who would dare to fall in love in this world?
"Seraphina, it’s not as you think." Desmond frowned, wanting to explain to Seraphina, "Actually, my being with Nina is just because..."
"You being with her for what? I don’t want to know. But your attitude towards dating makes sick. Is it just a transaction to you? When needed, you date soone, and when not, you kick them aside?"
Seraphina gave a cold laugh, realizing this was the truth behind her breakup with Desmond.
"I’ve never thought that way." Desmond could only explain like this.
Seraphina scoffed: "I don’t care what you think, just stop talking."
Watching the two in the back seat, obviously still in love with each other, but making such a fuss, Quentin felt a headache coming on.
Desmond loving Seraphina was an undisputed fact, but Seraphina kept saying she no longer had feelings for him, yet her behavior was contrary to her words.
If she truly didn’t care or want to be involved, why focus so much on what Desmond was doing?
And why let Desmond’s actions affect her emotions?
Ultimately, deep inside, she still cared a lot, just that she didn’t dare to admit it herself.
