Not once did her voice break while speaking about the ring of Adam. It was as though she had the pages of that book right in front of her face again. The words stread out of her mouth without a single hitch.

"Gilding those rings in silver was simply to add insult to injury as it was quite unnecessary for the spell in them to work," she said.

"I’ll never understand the double standard of humans, rejecting magic and punishing everyone that turns to it while relying on it to win their holy war,"

By the ti the conversation about that precious piece of jewelry reached its end, Arabella was already in a nightgown as Silas got ready to tuck her in bed.

Looking up at him from that reclined position with a smile that remained feeble but a lot easier to display, her eyes landed on his hand for a mont as her mind debated whether it was alright to reach for it or otherwise.

But Silas beat her to the mark and took her hand in his, squeezed at it lightly as his diamonds glided over every inch of her face.

"I missed this," he admitted.

"Missed what?" she murmured.

" asking you a question about sothing you read on and then you, weaving together long yarns of chronicles on the matter, furnished with the most interesting of anecdotes...," his lips and jaws indicated that he had more to say, but his voice showed none of it.

Although, her cheeks were burning too hot for her to focus on that detail, "I... Do not weave long yarns of anything...," she twisted the soft sheets covering her body, looking all coy.

"You know I love it when you do that so...," the solemn expression on him wiped the smile off her face, "Please, never stop doing it,"

At those words, mory served her the very first ti she had stepped foot inside that room. On the other side, behind the curtains where his prized collections of works lived.

The mory of her dinner threatening to leave her body. That of her heart beating in her throat and more importantly, the way her blood coursed her veins at the right speed again after he had asked her to elaborate on her thoughts about the canvas he still worked on.

The rush of tingles and warmth going into details about the history of their land had provided her with.

Eventually, Silas lay by her side on the bed and held her hand as they faced each other, waiting for her to drift into a deep state of slumber.

When the rays of the sun ca knocking on the window the next morning, he no longer was there, but his sll remained.

Arabella quickly got ready to leave the room, pushing every voice that scread obscenities at her out of the way.

She did her very best not to look at her body while rushing her clothes on, focusing her entire might of mind on the faces of Ada and Edgar who she kept seeing so vividly every ti her eyes blinked.

Were they already ho? they had to be! Silas said they should be there by morning.

There was no way he would have been wrong, right?

The young woman sprinted towards the door and yanked it open without grace only for her breath to hitch in her throat as her entire body froze in place.

Ada’s red face and wide eyes stared her right back from the other side.

"I... Before anything, I wished to apologize... I will understand if you chose never to speak to ever again but-,"

Arabella allowed her friend no ti to finish her speech and whisked her into a tight embrace, burying her face in Ada’s neck to breathe her essence.

Even though she was stiff at first, Ada’s figure llowed as her head went onto Arabella’s shoulder too. Her hands found her back in order to return the hug.

The two of them remained glued to each other, although only Ada sniffled, thus breaking the comfortable quietude between them.

When their bodies finally separated, Arabella’s hands cupped Ada’s cheeks and maintained eye contact for a good mont before speaking.

"What took you so long to return?" she breathed.

"Well, we went back to my father’s house. The one he used to experint with herbs and all, but as we were leaving a little girl approached us with bronze coins in her hands," Ada stuttered many tis throughout her sentence, "She said that her father spotted us going back to the house and that he knew about my father, although he was not sure who we were. He had sent his daughter with the coins to see if the healer had returned. She begged for to see her sick mother. I could not just leave them and so I went with the girl. I am sorry. I know I shouldn’t have worried you-,"

"You did the right thing," once again, Arabella cut her off, "I would have done the exact sa in your shoes,"

Ada’s hand flew to her mouth as she burst into sobs, "I am sorry. I really am sorry for everything I caused to happen,"

Although, instead of comnting on the matter, another question popped in the young woman’s mind, "Were you able to help that little girl’s mother?"

"Yes," Ada stopped crying and just stared at Arabella, wide eyed, "I was able to find what ailnt plagued her and prescribed a concoction to redy it,"

The two won remained glued to the hip the entire day, even when checking on Arthur, Ada was invited to co along.

Only hours later, Remus joined them and brought the usual chaos he was so good at creating.

Overall, the day was a good one, even though sothing new scratched at the back of her mind. Well, not entirely new.

It was a thought that only whispered in the background but grew bolder with every second that passed.

It ate at her, but Arabella vowed not to let it take a hold of her for that ti being.
