After Yun ili left, silence settled between them — heavy and unspoken.

The ward was quiet, save for the soft hums of the machine.

Their gaze locked onto each other—the first of many gazes to co.

Unable to take the intensity of his stare, Yun Li cleared her throat and played with the tip of her hair.

"Do you have sothing to say? Why do you keep staring at that way?"

He Yuchen snapped out of his thoughts, and smiled softly.

"I was just thinking... thinking about dealing with the person who tried to hurt you under my watch." He replied simply.

Yun Li coughed awkwardly, her eyes landing on everything except his face.

Her pulse skipped. The word ’hurt’ echoed in her mind, sharper than she expected.

He Yuchen chuckled. They had only known each other for a few weeks, but he loved seeing her flustered expression.

Just when the air between them began to soften, his phone rang, slicing through the mont.

He Yuchen’s brows creased as he took his phone from his pocket. The frown deepened seeing who was calling.

He picked it up. Calmly, he asked. "What is it?"

"Boss, Lin i escaped."

"What? She escaped?" His voice rose. "How could she escape?"

His calm snapped. The control he always had was gone in an instant.

Yun Li’s parted seeing his furious red face. She lowered her head a bit, thinking about the situation.

Then ca a voice full of guilt, "I am sorry, Young Master. But it seems like soone from the resort aided her escape. This was why it was easy for her to leave."

He Yuchen ran a hand through his hair, scattering it in the process. "Excuses, excuses, excuses. Don’t give those. Find her as soon as possible. Find out who she’s working for as well."

After these simple instructions, he disconnected the call and threw his phone to the nearby sofa.

"What is wrong?" Yun Li asked softly.

He Yuchen took deep calming breaths. "Lin i escaped. They suspect soone from the resort helped her."

Yun Li sighed. "It could be possible..." she murmured. After all, Madam He would do anything to cover her tracks.

Unfortunately, her last statent was a whisper.

"What did you say?" He asked with furrowed brows.

Yun Li shook her head softly. "I only said you’ll find her."

"I hope so," He Yuchen’s shoulders dropped and he took his seat close to her bed. "It hasn’t even been a week since we got married, but you are already facing all these problems. I am sorry, it’s all my fault."

Yun Li pursed her lips and comforted him. "It is not your fault that people are terrible. We only need to find them and put them in their right place."

He Yuchen looked at the understanding look on her face, and his heart tightened.

The mont of self-reflection was broken when the doctor ca to check on her.

"Mrs. He, you are awake." The older lady smiled to which Yun Li returned.

"I apologize for not checking up on you imdiately you were awake. I was attending to a lady around the sa age as you," the doctor engaged her with small chatter as she examined her.

Yun Li’s brows drew slightly together. A lady? Sa age as ? Her mind repeated those words, and sothing flashed within her eyes.

"Yue Ning?"

The na left her lips like a prayer. No... it couldn’t be her. Not her.

"Oh! You know her as well?" ca the Doctor’s surprised voice.

Yun Li’s heart tightened staring at the doctor. He Yuchen’s face flashed with surprise. Yue Ning was in the hospital as well.

"Doctor, what happened to her?" Yun Li’s breath ca out raggedly as she gazed at the doctor with a face full of dread.

"She t with a terrible accident. Fractured ribs, bruises... but she’s fine now which is strange. Her injuries healed quite fast."

Unfortunately, Yun Li didn’t hear the second half of her statent. Her mind was only filled with the word, ’accident.’

Yue Ning was involved in accident? Who could it be? Was it Madam He? Is she going after her? I have to see Yue Ning.

These were the only thoughts that flashed in Yun Li’s mind. Her face was pale and her breathing turned heavy. Her cheats heaved slightly and a fine sheen of sweat covered her forehead.

This affected the heart monitor as it began beeping loudly.

The doctor frowned. He Yuchen froze, guilt washing over him as he watched her body relax into uneasy sleep.

"Doctor, what’s wrong with her?" He asked worriedly as he shot up to his feet.

The doctor’s frown deepened as she gave Yun Li a shot which cald her slightly. She slowly drifted to sleep and the heart monitor beca normal.

The doctor sighed. "Is she related to Yue Ning?" She asked.

He Yuchen nodded and answered. "They are best friends."

The doctor exhaled. "Then I shouldn’t have talked about Mrs. Huo then. They are so close, hearing her friend got into an accident scared her so much she bywas about to have an attack."

He Yuchen took a step back in shock. He didn’t realize how close Yue Ning and Yun Li were.

"Doctor, are Yue Ning’s injuries severe?" He inquired.

"They were fatal at first. But surprisingly, her injuries healed miraculously. I have never seen anything like that."

He Yuchen’s frown deepened. Both Yue Ning and Yun Li were in the hospital. He had a bad feeling about this.

"When she regains consciousness, you can call ." The doctor finally said, not paying attention to He Yuchen’s conflicting expression. "She should watch what she eats in the coming days. Anyways, that’s all."

He Yuchen finally snapped out of his thoughts. He offered his gratitude to the doctor and she walked out of the ward.

He Yuchen turned to Yun Li who was laying peacefully on the bed. A conflicted expression flashed in his eyes.

Who could be behind her poisoning?

Yun Li’s fingers twitched even in sleep, her lips moving faintly.

He Yuchen leaned closer, and froze when he caught the words.

"Don’t... trust her."
