Chapter 347: Chapter 346 Permanent Residence at Ten Miles Team
Dealing with a stubborn person, one must always be prepared to be worn down by their persistence.
Lin Nianhe stared at Cao Shijian for a long while, and ultimately muttered dryly, “Fine, you two can go play sowhere else now.”
“Alright!”
Cao Shijian imdiately picked up Bai Xiaojun, muttering, “I’m starving, let’s go back and cook!”
Lin Nianhe watched his retreating figure, filled with imnse admiration.
How could she nitpick at a younger brother who, out of stubbornness, would rather starve than defy her words?
Lin Nianhe felt a headache coming on and rubbed her temples before quickening her pace towards Accountant Zhao.
“Uncle Zhao.”
“Hey, what’s up?”
Accountant Zhao looked up; his hands, still busy shelling corn kernels, didn’t stop.
Lin Nianhe said, “Regarding the matter of constructing the branch factory, the commune has arranged for two Public Security comrades to stay in our Ten Miles Team permanently. Uncle Team Leader is still drunk at the mont. How should we arrange their accommodation?”
Accountant Zhao was montarily startled and glanced aside, only to see Su Yuncheng standing a ter behind Lin Nianhe, holding a piece of paper.
Accountant Zhao laughed and nodded at Su Yuncheng, “Comrade Xiao Su, we et again.”
“Hello.” Su Yuncheng stepped forward, unfolding the introduction letter and handing it over, adding, “Feng Wei’s mother is elderly and alone at ho, so we could only bring her along. Please forgive us.”
“Okay, okay, that’s no problem at all.” After carefully reading the introduction letter, Accountant Zhao said with so difficulty, “It’s just that the only available place is an old house that’s been vacant for many years. It has a leaky roof, overgrown yard, and the kang seems to have collapsed.”
This… definitely wasn’t livable.
After contemplating for a while, Accountant Zhao suggested, “Here’s what we’ll do—you and Xiao Feng go to the Team Leader’s house for now. Let Aunt Feng stay at my place for the ti being. We’ll fix up the old house as soon as possible. Does that work?”
“I’ll leave it to your arrangents.” Su Yuncheng had no preference for where to stay but felt it was a bit troubleso for Accountant Zhao. “It’s just too much trouble for you.”
“It’s nothing,” Accountant Zhao chuckled, waving his hand and handing back the introduction letter, “It’s just my wife and at ho, not quite as comfortable as the town accommodations. Aunt Feng will have a sowhat rough ti.”
Without waiting for Su Yuncheng’s reply, Accountant Zhao turned to Lin Nianhe. “Your Uncle Li hasn’t sobered up yet?”
“Mhm, he’s still asleep,” Lin Nianhe replied softly.
Accountant Zhao burst out laughing, “What kind of fine liquor did he have that he’s still not sobered up by now? Alright, Miss Lin, on your way back, please tell the two comrades from the match factory to co to my house for dinner tonight. Xiao Su, you, Xiao Feng, and Aunt Feng should co as well.”
When there are guests in the village, even if they ca for work-related reasons, they should be well-hosted.
Since Li Dahe definitely wouldn’t be leaving his bed, Uncle Zhao would do the hosting.
“Alright, it just so happens I have two bottles of wine at ho, I’ll let you have a taste later on.”
“Hahaha… I dare not drink, let them have it.”
Accountant Zhao called his wife and Aunt Li to help settle Su Yuncheng and others. Aunt Li and Aunt Zhao, arm in arm with Lin Nianhe, cheerfully chatted.
“Miss Lin, what would you like to eat? I’ll cook it for you tonight.”
“That’s right, I saved up eight eggs, I’ll fry them all for you later. Nianhe, make sure you also invite Shui and Xiao Lan over; the factory matter was all thanks to the three of you.”
Lin Nianhe smiled and shook her head, “I’ll tell Sister Shui, they can go, but I won’t.”
“What’s the matter? Dislike your aunt’s cooking?” Aunt Li frowned, clearly displeased.
“Not…not…”
Lin Nianhe still told them about the incident involving Niuwa and Zheng Shan. However, she didn’t ntion anything about the black market, only that there was a kidnapper planning to abduct children.
She realized lately that perhaps due to the large number of children at ho, parents are quite negligent regarding their children’s safety.
The kids, not attending classes, would roam around the village and the mountains aimlessly, and even if they ca ho bruised, no one seed to care. Occasionally, when they didn’t show up around alti, parents would just shout a few tis, and if they still did not return, they’d say, ‘Don’t know where they’ve run off to, they’ll co back once they’re hungry.’
Although kidnappers are not frequent these days, there are indeed wild animals in the mountains, and the rivers are indeed dangerous.
Lin Nianhe planned to take this opportunity to organize a child safety education program to alert all parents to be more vigilant.
Weather cycles through the seasons, but it doesn’t take care of children.
Upon hearing this, Aunt Li and Aunt Zhao were indeed shocked.
Aunt Li, wide-eyed, exclaid, “Gosh, can’t even support our own, how could we possibly want other people’s children?”
Aunt Zhao, puzzled, replied, “Exactly, over the years I’ve heard about abandoning children, never about children being abducted.”
Lin Nianhe softly said, “So families want a son, or don’t have children and want to adopt one, or maybe so family wants a child bride… Even if there’s only one person in the world who thinks like this, there will definitely be a group of kidnappers.”
Aunt Li and Aunt Zhao both frowned deeply. However, Aunt Li appeared more troubled since Aunt Zhao didn’t have children, whereas Hehua was still little and a girl, so the idea of her being abducted was truly frightening…
Shivering, Aunt Li cursed, “Damn those plague-like bastards, all should be struck dead by lightning!”
She swore repeatedly, just like every mother in the world, even without witnessing, they would tear every kidnapper to pieces.
Aunt Zhao consoled her briefly and then intently asked Lin Nianhe, “So, what does this have to do with you not coming over for dinner?”
“Nianhe scared herself, I want to stay with her,” replied Lin Nianhe. “She never liked crowds anyway, I’m worried seeing too many strangers might make her uncomfortable.”
“Ah, bless your thoughtful heart,” Aunt Li patted Lin Nianhe’s hand but persistently added, “Then don’t bother cooking tonight, I’ll have Hehua bring sothing over for you to eat with Miss Zheng.”
“Okay, thank you, Auntie.”
“Tsk, we’re family, no need for formalities.”
They chatted and returned to the Educated Youth Corps, t with Aunt Feng, and repeated the arrangents. Aunt Feng felt extrely embarrassed, repeatedly saying she was causing trouble for everyone and that she could return to town too.
Finally, Aunt Zhao said, “Aunt, are you suggesting our place isn’t good? If so, I’ll ask the village boys to escort you back.”
Aunt Feng, her face flushing with anxiety, frantically waved her hands, explaining that wasn’t what she ant.
“Then co with . Xiao Feng is here to protect our Ten Miles Team; if you go back, wouldn’t he get distracted? What if he can’t perform his duties properly?”
Aunt Zhao, probably influenced by Accountant Zhao, had a particularly persuasive way of reasoning. No matter how embarrassed Aunt Feng felt, she ultimately followed Aunt Zhao to her ho.
The remaining luggage was easily packed; Aunt Li, taking Feng Wei, rode the tricycle to her ho, staying in the sa house they had borrowed during the harvest season.
After settling everything, Lin Nianhe finally breathed a sigh of relief.
She returned to her cabin, where Niuwa was still reading, and Zheng Shan sat on the kang cabinet, daydreaming.
Lin Nianhe sat next to Zheng Shan, tugged at her braid and inquired, “Shanshan, would you like to sleep with tonight?”
Zheng Shan looked up blankly, perplexed.
“I…”
“Miss Lin? Nianhe? Are you ho?”
Lin Nianhe was just about to explain when she heard Wang Hong’s voice from the yard.
