"Relax, nobody is here to fight anybody." Ro responded.
Frost seed to assign himself the role of Scarlet’s protector and he stepped in front of her. "But Just in case, you two are looking for a fight I would like to make it clear that Scarlet and I will kick your butts."
Jonas held his hands up. "Guys co on, do we need to wave the literal white flag before you can trust us?"
"Not even if it’s as white as my hair." Frost replied.
Scarlet peeked over Frost’s shoulder and said in a squeaky voice as he kept pushing her back, "What he said."
Jonas lowered his hands because nothing was going to make them trust trustworthy in the eyes of these two. But given their history, it was not surprising.
"Look, we got into a bit of a scuffle just that one ti. The two of us didn’t even touch you. It was all Ulysses..."
"He is your friend, isn’t he?" Scarlet popped a question before Jonas could exhaust his explanation.
Ro shook his head. "Not anymore, he ford a different partnership with Ramslin now. And we know Ramslin was assigned to the sa world as you."
"That’s why we ca to warn you." Jonas added.
"Yeah." Ro nodded. "Ulysses still has a grudge against you. We figured that he had attached himself to Ramslin in order to get to you. But you are a high level reaper now. ssing with you is stupid."
"We just wanted to make sure that you know we are not involved anymore with whatever craziness he is into and give you a heads up. If he has made it to your world, get him off before he does sothing stupid. Ulysses is not exactly one to think with his brains." Jonas finished off.
"That’s it. Good luck." Ro told her.
He teleported away and Jonas did the sa two seconds later.
Scarlet put away her weapons of war since there was no fight. The warning they had given her, she was already aware of and she had asked Flan to report it already. Not that the deities had done much about it anyway. According to Lanta, Ulysses was still visiting Ramslin regularly.
She looked at her wrist, scowling at the mark of the bracelet and she sighed. She would worry less when she could protect herself properly ll
"Do you trust them?" Frost asked her.
"I trust that they know better than to ss with soone who outranks them." she responded.
It was possible that they didn’t like her as a person or reaper, but they respected rank. Warrior reapers were very rigid when it ca to ranks. The higher you ranked, the more respect you garnered with them.
"You should tell your husband about Ulysses." Frost advised her.
Her body froze....pletely still for a few seconds. Then she gave Frost a puzzled and questioning look.
"Why would I tell my human husband about the reaper who hates ? What’s he going to do, arrest and put him in a human prison which can’t hold him?"
Frost laughed and nodded. "You are right, silly . Anyway, I must return back to my search and you should probably go ho first, just in case those guys planned sothing else and I spooked them."
Frost had no plans of returning to his search. What he intended to do was go and find Esong so that he could update him on the newest danger Scarlet was nonchalant about.
When he teleported away, Scarlet did the sa, returning to the Blue star and she caught up on so much needed sleep with Severus by her side, watching over her.
On that sa day, at night, reporter Jelly was preparing to get into bed when she got a text from Scarlet. She sent a reply and put her bracelet terminal away.
She entered the bed and cuddled with Zorl who was already waiting for her impatiently. "Captain big baby, what are you doing tomorrow?"
"Paper work at ho, then sleep, sleep, and so more sleep. I still have three days on my injured work leave." he answered.
Scarlet’s policies on work place injuries and city employee benefits were really the best. Even though injuries were easily healed, she still insisted that officers get ti off to heal ntally. Zorl agreed with her in this one area. Just because the physical trauma was gone did not an the ntal one was also gone.
He and a few officers had been caught in a high speed chase with more DWN mbers on the Blue star that had been identified from mind searches of the ones in custody. An accident had occurred which resulted in severe injuries for both RGB officers and the criminals.
His arm had been twisted backwards and his abdon ended up being ripped through despite the armor on his body. Every ti he went into the bathroom, captain Zorl would look at his stomach and touch the place where he had been injured. Even though it was devoid of injury now, his mind was still playing catch up.
Jelly raised her head slightly and looked at his face. There was worry in her eyes as she observed him. "I saw the news about the car crush. How are you feeling now?"
"I am fine, it wasn’t that bad at all." he lied.
"Oh really." she replied, her voice highly skeptical.
She had seen the footage of that car crush. The loud death gripping impact of the collision and the blood at the scene. The painful moaning of those involved and the shrieking of the passer by that had been injured. All of it had been captured by the Sun and Sun dia drone. He had been been rushed to a hospital all bruised and bloody so how was it not bad?
She sat up and looked him with a grave look in her eyes. "Don’t lie to Zorl, ever__, we agreed that we would not lie to each other."
He grinned, looking all sheepish and guilty. "You." he paused for a second, indecisive on whether he should be honest or dismissive. "I don’t want you to worry about and my job. If I am worried that my job will cause you misery then I can’t do my job. If I tell you about the fear I faced, the thoughts which raced through my mind at that mont then I will be passing them on to you. Then you will have those thoughts every ti I leave for work in the morning or evening. When that happens, you will slowly grow to dislike what I do. How long until it is you dislike?"
"What are you talking about?"
He run a hand through his hair and sighed. "It frightens .....deeply....to think that I could lose you because of what I do." His eyes were harsh, and his voice deep.
Maybe he ant to frighten her but all he succeeded in doing was angering her.
"Yeah well, smart guy my job is also dangerous at tis and keep in mind that I have no ntal strength. Should I be worried about you leaving because of it?"
He sat up abruptly and grabbed her by the shoulders, hard. "I would never leave you."
"Then cut the nonsense and co to your senses."
"But I have seen it." he said. "It doesn’t just happen to cha warriors, your partner leaving because of the job. It happens to RGB officers too. I just want to make sure that our future is solid."
"For a man that isn’t engaged or married to , you sure do have a lot of worries about the future." she mumbled.
"What?"
