|| You not only refused to co on the agreed day, you blatantly denied our summon. ||

Ain’t that the sa thing?

|| You should be punished severely for disrespecting us, as forcefully summoning you here requires more ti and strength. But first, we’ll give you a chance to tell us what we agreed upon. We don’t want to hear you asking for more ti or anything. So please proceed. ||

Koul rubbed his neck and sighed.

"Getting angry just ’cause I refused to see y’all, tsk!" Koul mumbled.

The judges eyes bored down on him with pressure and coldness. But he didn’t mind. He remained calm and unbothered in their faces.

Still, it’s great that they now have to inform first and wait for to accept their summons. From what that judge said, if I refuse, it takes them more ti and strength to forcefully bring here.

Not great yet, but good. If I’m able to get my total freedom, I’m sure they’d never be able to summon .

Will they then displace themselves to co see ?

Hmm... sounds good.

"Anyways," Koul exhaled aloud.

"I’m now going to tell you all how the real Koul died. But first, bring a seat."

The judges flared up in rage. Not only had Koul disrespected their deal and blatantly insulted them with his actions, he was now asking for this?

|| You dare?!||

"Sigh! It’s a long talk. You don’t expect to remain standing as I recount it, do you? If this information is important, you’ll compromise so we can get things done quickly."

Reluctantly, the judges materialized a chair and sent it toward Koul. The chair floated and landed gently beside Koul.

Koul pulled the chair to a good spot and dropped down on it. He leaned forward, both hands resting on his thighs and supporting his chin.

"Y’all better listen attentively, because for no reason will I repeat myself!" He spoke like a strict professor about to lecture his students.

|| .... ||

The judges didn’t respond. They simply exchanged glances and swallowed their pride.

"Koul was killed by a dark entity," he blurted.

A heavy silence followed next. The judges were speechless. They didn’t know what to say to that.

After a mont, one of them spoke.

|| It seems we have entertained your unruly behavior for too long. ||

|| You have not only seen us as so little, but you’ve tricked us to get more than half your freedom, || another said.

|| Your punishnt will not be little, young one. ||

Koul stared at them with lazy eyes. He seed not to care about whatever they were spewing.

His confident eyes further irritated them, but before they could fu any further, Koul spoke.

"Two minutes," he said. "It’s a total of two minutes now that you’ve all wasted my ti now."

"Do you think I have nothing to do? Or that I have no life of my own? Coming here to face you all, do you think it’s because I’m jobless? I am fulfilling my part of the deal and telling you how Koul died, yet you are all acting like so bunch of premature foetuses."

A soft gasp rippled from the ladies. Their mouths fell open in shock as they looked to themselves in confirmation for what they heard.

|| Pre-premature? || a male judge whispered.

"If you have all cald down, then keep quiet and listen. Like I said before, I won’t repeat myself."

The judges composed themselves and decided to give their ears. They didn’t know whether Koul was playing with them or not.

"Again, Koul was killed by a dark entity," Koul reiterated, then paused.

He raised his gaze to the judges to see their reaction but they were calm. So he continued.

"Aside from you, the judges, there are other mysterious powers at work in the shadows."

The judges, once again, exchanged awkward glances. Another mysterious power being at work had been their guess since sothing like this happened.

It wasn’t a deduction they hadn’t co to, so it wasn’t surprising when Koul said it.

But Koul saying it confird it for them.

Only now did they trust Koul was speaking the truth and wasn’t playing with them.

|| How do you know this? || a judge asked.

Koul’s lips slowly curved into a prideful smirk. His expression was bright with excitent like he’d been waiting for this question.

Then, calmly, he replied.

"Because I’ve t the entity that killed Koul."

***********

About a week ago. The night before the day Koul departed for the capital.

As always, he was laid back on his bed for the night to sleep.

Since Kanstiv was still yet to return and no words had co from the knight he sent to get his brother, Koul was a bit stressed with things.

He’d trained in the day, passed ti in the office, all while awaiting Kanstiv’s return and his brother’s arrival.

YAWN!

A loud groan and yawn left him as he stretched his body on the bed to loosen his stiff muscles.

Then he sprawled out his legs and arms to sleep more comfortably.

He was yet to fully taste the pleasure of a deep sleep when sothing sifted out from his body.

A shadow. It peeled itself away from Koul’s body. At first, it was the shape of a human. Then it morphed and changed into a shadowy whip-like figure.

It levitated fully from Koul’s body, stretched forward its rope like self and curled a part of it around Koul’s neck.

SNAP!

Koul’s eyes snapped open in an instant. His eyes widened till the point of almost bulging out when he saw the shadowy ropes floating like tentacles above him.

He couldn’t scream. He was paralyzed instantly by fear and shock.

The grip around his neck tightened, locking away air from his lungs.

Koul saw his life flash before his eyes. His brain couldn’t compute things. He could think of anything.

And at that mont, he didn’t care what the entity was.

The only thing his nerves pulsed erratically for, was for survival. He needed to survive.

With desperation fueling him, he grabbed the shadow’s whip that was bound around his neck.

The mont he ca in contact with it, the shadow transford back into its original shape; a human shape.

The shadowy whip around his neck turned into a shadowy human hands. And the strength beneath it doubled.

I am so fucked.
