No longer was I surrounded by vivid-green grass in a park, but I was now in a relatively small square-shaped room, with walls painted white and a wooden floor.
The only similar thing was the sunshine.
In the dark room, the sun’s rays passed through the windows on the walls, illuminating a figure in a bed with their eyes closed.
I was still lying down...but instead of feeling prickly grass below , there was a soft cotton mattress.
There was even a silky pillow resting under my head.
And, right on top of my body, I could feel a blanket, which covered everything but my face.
This wasn’t just any room, was it?
*BANG*
At that mont, the room’s door burst open, revealing a familiar middle-aged figure with long-brown hair and matching amber-brown eyes.
The figure was so familiar...and upon seeing her, I instantly felt at ease as my body relaxed.
But...I couldn’t quite rember her na.
Only one word instinctively ca to mind.
Mom.
"Ren, it’s ti to get up. Breakfast’s on the table."
Even though I didn’t command my body to do anything, it instinctively rolled to the side, covering its head with the blanket, and yelled back.
"YES!"
The feeling of warmth under the soft blanket and a strange feeling of comfort overwheld my body as I lay completely still on the bed.
It felt so...natural to be here.
I didn’t want to go.
*BANG*
Without even realizing it, a couple of minutes had passed, and at that mont, the door suddenly flew open again.
Instead of remaining at the edge of the room, the brown-haired figure marched into the space.
Even though I couldn’t see her as my entire body was under the blanket, the sound of her steps getting closer echoed every second, like so sort of horror ga.
*STEP*
*STEP*
Finally, the steps halted, and after a brief mont of silence, I suddenly felt the sun’s rays shine down my face.
My body was imdiately overco with coldness as my blanket flew into the air, being pulled away by the brown-haired figure beside my bed.
Staring at with a stern expression, Mom sighed and said.
"Ren, get up and shower, or you’ll be late. You can buy breakfast at school later."
As I lay on the bed, my pajamas completely visible without any blanket, I raised my right hand toward her face.
"Mom?"
Suddenly, I felt two hands grip my shoulder as my mom playfully shook while smiling and said.
"Co on, Ren, stop dreaming."
Her ssy brown hair and eyebags displayed that she had been up since the early hours of the day, preparing breakfast and lunch.
Not defending myself and also returning a smile, I muttered back while she shook my shoulders.
"I’m dreaming, right now, aren’t I?"
"What are you talking about, Ren? Co on, you’ll really be late now."
"You’ll survive without , Mom, right?"
With a confused expression, she shook even further and answered.
"What are you talking about, Ren? If you’re trying to skip school, then do a better job of pretending."
Before I could answer, Mom suddenly paused and added.
"No, I won’t ever forget you either."
My heart sank, and I felt an instant wave of nausea flood my brain, threatening to knock unconscious.
Back on Earth...how was she?
Did she think I had run away...was she blaming herself for my appearance?
I had only been thinking about my survival in this new world, but how was she?
Imagine her crying every night while posting missing pictures of and constantly going to the police station to make reports, my heart halted.
What had I done...?
My brain felt as if it were about to explode, and my entire body went limp.
However, at that very mont, I felt my hair fall backward as she placed her palm on my forehead.
My cold forehead instantly heated up as she leaned in and placed her mouth to my ear.
Then, in a soft whisper that only I could hear, Mom said.
"Don’t worry about if anything happens, alright? I’ll always be watching over you, no matter how far apart we are."
"I promise if you look up, I’ll be there."
The soft and warm sensation of her patting my shoulder and wrapping her arms around forced small droplets of water out of my eyes.
They leaked down my face, wetting the sheet below with small dark-blue circles.
A mont later, as my body returned to coldness, her voice entered my ears one last ti.
"Keep going, no matter what, alright? If you ever need a reason to live, then do it for ."
She suddenly chuckled, a wide smile on her face, while staring at .
"After all, you’re my one and only Ren. No one can replace you."
Suddenly, my eyelids flickered, and the image of the vivid-green grass of the first floor overlapped with my room.
Slowly but surely, my mom’s figure began to get farther and farther away from , as she now stood a couple of steps away from my bed.
My entire body still shook, and I felt my shoulders being gripped despite my mother now being far away.
Only her face was visible at this point...with that everlasting smile despite my antics,
Soone was trying to wake up.
I wanted to continue sleeping forever, living in this dream, but I knew I couldn’t.
Like a piece of glass, the image of the room I had lived in for sixteen years...and my mother’s face, shattered, revealing the real background of the environnt around .
I allowed the force on my body to wake up, and when I reopened my eyes, the image of my room and my mom were nowhere to be seen, like a fleeting mory that had now disappeared into the depths of my brain.
My eyes were dry and aching, and my cheeks were wet
Still feeling a gripping pressure on my shoulder, I turned to my right and saw a familiar figure kneeling on the grass next to .
Seeing awake with my eyes open, the figure remained unperturbed and simply pointed at their arm with an emotionless expression.
