At that mont, all the chaotic sounds of people passing by and talking seed to disappear and blur out.
In my world right now, it was just and Evangel...staring at each other for what seed like an eternity.
Her pure-white pupils were like a black hole, threatening to suck in and make vanish from this Earth.
I couldn’t even see the reflection of myself in her eyes...all I could see was her.
Snapping back to reality, I finally shifted my head, being the first to break eye contact, and awkwardly pointed at the plant she was holding.
"A-are you g-going to buy that...?"
Looking away from , Evangel raised the plant to the height of her head and silently stared at the petal for a couple of seconds.
She didn’t talk much...I was probably the cause of that.
Surprisingly, Evangel suddenly leaned forward, pressing her nose to the Lily, and stood still for a couple of seconds.
Then, as her expression suddenly changed, she looked downward and saw the price tag.
And, just like , she awkwardly put the plant back down and turned around.
However, at that mont, Liana stepped forward, picked up the plant herself, and said to the storeowner, who had just been staring upward.
"I’ll take this."
As Liana took two silver coins out of her pocket, she turned back and quietly whispered to .
"I can’t tell you much due to confidential reasons with the Adventurer’s Guild...but she deserves a reward today."
Still looking up at the night-black sky, the storeowner simply grabbed the two coins from Liana’s palm and gestured for us to leave, mumbling about how we were blocking her sight of the sky.
Then, before I could even walk away and continue exploring, Liana grabbed the back of my cloak and dragged behind her.
"Let show my two dear juniors around my hotown!"
"..."
As those words echoed around us, Evangel suddenly halted behind us and looked up confusedly.
Seeing Evangel not by her side, Liana imdiately turned around and walked backward through the crowd, earning herself a couple of curses.
Thus, I was left alone in the marketplace.
If I ran or simply walked away right now, there was no way the two girls would be able to catch .
And, considering the crowd here, I doubt I’d see them for the rest of the night.
It was the perfect escape opportunity.
So...why weren’t my legs moving?
Why was I staying completely still instead of walking away and disappearing into the crowd ahead?
I wanted to leave...right?
Staying with them right now would lead to us forming deeper connections, and a deeper connection ans I have a higher percentage of being discovered as a demon.
However, despite that, my legs remained still.
It’s ok if they don’t find out, right?
You can be friends and spend ti with them...they’ll never find out if you’re careful.
Do you really want to be all alone for the next ten years of your life?
It was like there was soone, right next to , whispering in my ear...
At that mont, I felt sothing tap against my shoulder and a surprised voice sounded from behind .
"Well, I’m surprised... I thought you’d run away like last ti."
Making eye contact with Liana, who was now dragging Evangel forward, I hesitated before responding.
"Is that really sothing you should say out loud?"
Shrugging her shoulders, Liana passed by , not even bothering to grab my shoulder, and replied.
"I guess I’ll have to treat you today, then."
As I followed behind them, I attempted to catch up so that I could stand side-by-side with Liana, but the crowd ahead prevented .
Thus I was left standing beside Evangel, who was just staring straight while being pulled ahead, not even acknowledging the chaotic scenery around us.
She had both her hands wrapped around the plant, yet she still looked down sotis, as if confirming it were still there.
Suddenly, looking up at the night-sky, she said in a soft and seemingly forced voice.
"You’re attending Glaive as well?"
Well, in her eyes, I had been drinking alone in the forest during the middle of the day, so it was probably surprising I attended the number one magic academy.
As I nodded my head, Liana suddenly grabbed my arm sleeve and pulled us to the right.
Then, like a parent telling their children off, Liana looked at Evangel and I before commanding.
"Wait here."
Confused, I imdiately replied.
"What if we leave...?"
Turning her back and heading towards a row of booths, Liana responded.
"Then you’ll have to spend the rest of your waking life wondering why I told you to wait. Every second of the day, that question will echo in your head."
"Whether you’re training, having fun, or even drinking, you’ll spend every mont wondering what could have happened if you stayed. You’ll soon co to regret your decision, and have to spend the rest of your life trying to accept that fact."
"..."
"..."
Leaning backward, I glanced around for a couple of monts before ultimately staying still.
It wasn’t because of her words or my curiosity...I was just too far in to leave right now.
Beside , Evangel stood perfectly still while staring at the plant pot in her hands...almost like a robot.
She was so entranced by the plant that she didn’t notice that she was blocking the movent of the crowd forward.
Before I could say anything, soone suddenly bumped into her, knocking her off balance and sending her slowly falling backward.
Of course, the person who had bumped into her fell backward onto the ground too, as if he had just hit a brick wall.
Standing completely still, I watched as two small currents of wind, the size of a palm, appeared under her, separating her back from the floor.
As the currents sent her back up, she caught her balance and stepped out of the way before returning her gaze to the Lily.
