One of the boss monster’s legs stepped through the portal, landing on the cliffside, which wasn’t even attached to the mountain.
Now, whoever was holding the cliffside really couldn’t drop it.
If they did, the boss monster would drop to the base camp, survive the fall, and then wreak havoc on the students and mundane people in the vicinity, possibly even destroying the fragile glass elevator.
The boss’s leg was scaly, covered in layers of defense, and exhuded an area that forced everyone, for a second, to advert their legs toward it.
In the distance, I could hear Charlotte’s open hang wide open as she shockedly muttered.
"I-it’s a B-rank."
*BANG*
At that mont, the boss’s left leg suddenly appeared before surging downward at the cliffside and landing.
There it was.
Its head, resembling that of all the other wolves we had killed previously, peeked out of the portal, casting a massive shadow on the cliffside.
The wolf’s triangle-shaped ears poked upward at the sky as its gaze slowly scanned the mountain, eventually pausing on... us.
Its two eyes were so big that I couldn’t tell if it was looking at us or Coal’s group.
Fenrir.
The representation of chaos and wilderness.
Of course, though, it wasn’t the real thing.
If it were, all of us would have instantly died upon laying gaze on Fenrir’s mythical aura.
Straining my right eye to maximum, I activated elental sight for a slight mont and scanned the beast’s head.
Countless particles, a mix of grey and white, surrounded the wolf’s main, ready to be used at any ti.
However, I let out a sigh of relief.
This imitation of Fenrir didn’t have the real one’s elent.
If it did...our chances would be slim to none.
Instead, the wolf possessed the sound elent.
Suddenly, Chae understood and took a step back, afraid to fight the beast alone, but by so trial of misfortune, a rock was beneath her.
*CRACK*
As the rock cracked under her shoes...the wolf turned into a blur.
Fenrir’s two front legs surged forward as its entire body erged from the portal at a speed that made it look like a massive blur.
Covered in grey fur, the beast, standing at a height more than quadruple mine, leaped off the ground and landed right in front of Chae.
That was all it took.
One jump and the beast closes the distance between us.
Standing frozen in front of the wolf., Chae lost all her nerves, her weapon falling to the ground, and desperately waved her hands while stepping backward.
But Fenrir didn’t care.
Leaning toward with its neck tilted at a negative forty-five degree angle, he opened his mouth and attempted to vacuum Chae inside.
Before he could, though..."I" suddenly appeared.
Leaning against the wall with the starstruck Sage, I commanded one of my clones to dive in front of Chae.
Then, all the way back, I yelled out.
"GO! I’LL STALL!"
Running backward while looking over her shoulder, Chae sprinted toward Coal and Levi, who had joined up and were running forward at her.
As my clone stood before the wolf’s mouth, its jaws the size of my figure, it raised its sword, to the wolf’s surprise.
But that shock didn’t last for long, as the wolf quickly dismissed my weapon before opening its mouth at , trying to gobble whole.
Since it was just a clone, I made it confusedly stand there, but at that mont, the entire cliffside suddenly shook to the left
*RUMBLE*
Having no idea of the cliffside’s detachnt from the mountain, the wolf completely lost its balance, and due to its massive weight, it fell over.
*BANG*
As the wolf’s right side hit the mountain and remained there, Coal and the others instantly seized the opportunity.
But before they did, a sudden scream echoed from one of them.
"THANK YOU!"
The sheer weight of the wolf hitting the cliffside nearly tore the platform apart as chunks of rock cracked off and tumbled into the abyss below
*BANG*
*BANG*
Echoes that sounded like thunderclaps reverberated from below the empty valley, and dust rose up in towering waves, temporarily blocking my vision of the fight going on.
I winced as my clone shattered and fell backward due to the impact, and due to my current fatigued state, it fell to the ground without catching itself
My mind was simply too exhausted to perform any complex actions with the clones, so I dismissed it.
Still... it bought enough ti.
Chae collapsed forward as she reached Coal, gasping for air as Levi yanked her behind him, where lissa imdiately treated her with spells I did recognize.
The rest of the squad spread on the stage like actors, trying to surround the beast before it could recover its footing.
However, they didn’t have the sa passive gaze and talkative tone as earlier.
Levi’s eyes, especially, were strange as his pupils stood eerily still, locked onto the frozen wolf.
Then, the wolf snarled...despite being on the ground.
...I hadn’t ntioned to the others its elent had been sound...had I?
I had been able to recognize the sound particles around Fenrir due to my knowledge, but they wouldn’t be able to.
Surging my right hand upward, I covered Sage’s left ear before yelling and covering my own ears with the cliff and my left hand.
"COVER YOUR EARS!"
"AH-"
Not with its voice, not exactly. Not like a beast. This was different.
The air cracked.
With elental sight on, I could quite literally see air elental particles being split in a half.
A beam of sound particles, pure and weaponized, erged from the collapsed wolf’s mouth.
It wasn’t a roar... No, it was silence turned into a blade, a vacuum pressure that carved a wave across the stone and split a thin scar into the mountain wall behind us.
Everyone within thirty ters dropped to their knees.
Everyone but .
I gritted my teeth as my elental sight remained active.
Even with the headache it caused, I forced myself to keep it open, looking for clues.
My vision dimd at the edges, tunnel-visioning in toward the center of the wolf’s form... and I saw it.
In order to release so much sound and control so many sound particles, the wolf had to have so sort of secondary lung system.
Swirling sound particles, moving in concentric spirals around the beast’s throat, ca into view, located in the area between its chin and two front legs
A sound core.
The vague shape of a glass crystal, barely visible without elental sight, appeared behind the swirling sound particles.
Just as my heart could pump out ti elental particles, the wolf’s crystal controlled its flow of sound particles.
I flicked my wrist and picked up my blood-red blade, despite not being strong enough to even swing it at the wolf.
However, I didn’t even need to hit the wolf.
My blade simply had to touch it.
That was my winning condition.
Charlotte, regaining her stance, stood behind the wolf’s tail, too hesitant to get any closer.
Her hair whipped around wildly from the wind, and she now held a staff with a yellow orb atop it in her two hands.
Sound and drowsiness were of the sa kind.
Both elents that couldn’t be perceived directly and were nearly impossible to dodge.
*CRASH*
Suddenly, the wolf’s two right legs pushed against the ground, attempting to hold its entire body back up.
Veins appeared on the legs as its massive limbs tensed, trying to rise, but the angle of the cliffside and its own montum had pinned it awkwardly to the slope.
Slowly, though, it was happening.
Before I could even say sothing, a voice I had nearly forgotten about sounded from above .
"CHARLOTTE USE DROWSINESS TO KEEP IT DOWN."
"CHAE SHOOT IT WITH AIR ELENTAL-TIPPED ARROWS TO PUSH IT TO THE GROUND."
"LISSA, FOCUS ON BOOSTING LEVI AND COAL."
"YOU TWO GO AT THE WOLF AND DEAL AS MUCH DAMAGE AS POSSIBLE TO ITS CHIN. I REPEAT, TO ITS CHIN."
"...BUT DON’T LET IT BITE YOU!"
The entire group nodded their heads, regaining their composure, as Coal and Levi raced right toward the right side of the wolf’s head with their swords.
But...Fenrir turned its head.
Its pupils, larger than my torso, swiveled in their direction and lazily stared at them.
There was no fear, anger, or emotion visible in the Fenrir’s eyes.
Simple awareness.
For a second, Levi and Coal hesitated, slowing to a fast walk.
How could they attack that thing’s chin!?
The rest of this body was an easy target, defended by nothing, but the wolf had its mouth to protect their target area.
A mont later, they continued sprinting through.
Despite having only t her a couple of hours ago, they trusted Mira’s orders.
Levi’s two swords shone a light blue, signifying his third-ranked elent of purity, but Coal’s remained still.
Sharpness didn’t take on a color.
Releasing my hand from Sage’s ears and unblocking my own ears, I sighed and looked forward.
