Silence stretched across the air like a blanket. I wanted him to say sothing or maybe persuade to drop my crown and run away.

But he kept quiet.

"Rhydian?"

"Yes, princess." His voice ca from the stone again.

"I thought you had left... I couldn’t hear from you." I pushed the strands falling over my face to the back of my ear.

"I am here..." he sighed before he continued. "I just want you to think over this, and be sure of what you really want. I want you to be happy."

Tears rolled down my cheeks. "Hmm." I couldn’t say any other words apart from that, and I didn’t want him to know I was crying.

"I’ll contact you tomorrow. Sleep well, princess." His voice grew distant with every word.

"Sleep well too, Rhydian," I muttered under my breath. The stone gradually changes from light blue to white.

I buried my head between my knees, sobbing. I was too afraid to go back to sleep, torn inside from rejecting Golden, and devastated by the thought of getting married in seven days... six days precisely, since it was past midnight.

I curled myself on the bed, but the blanket wasn’t comforting as it should be. Maybe it is because of the unease in my mind.

"I will wait for you nevertheless, you just need to rember that soone is waiting for you on the other side of the wall."

"Damon," I whispered as I stared mindlessly at the ceiling.

...

(Damon POV)

I stood by the window, staring into the night, the spot where Ember was before she entered the carriage.

The calm in my eyes was a clear contradiction to the storm in . It was a ss. I felt the sa fear I had when I lost Elia.

The thought of her getting married made my wolf restless, a thread away from taking control.

"So we are going to watch her get married?" Beowulf snarled. "She is our mate, and we are going to watch her get MARRIED?!"

I closed my eyes, pinching the bridge of my nose.

"You COWARD! Let take control, I want my mate back, DAMON!" His voice grew thicker, and violent.

My fangs and claws elongated, before retracting. Furs rippled over my skin. My head hurts like it was being pulled apart.

My legs gave way, and my knees hit the ground. I growled in pain, ripping my shirt apart.

"Give control, Damon." He growled furiously.

"I can’t..." I gasped for air, and sweat trickled down my face. "It will ruin everything we have been fighting for." I groaned at the sound of my bones breaking and rearranging.

"If she gets married, I’ll rip out your throat myself!"

I chuckled. "You will snitch on because of a woman? You’d rather lose both of us than live without her?"

"She is not just a woman, she is our mate! We are not whole without her."

I panted, Beowulf was becoming more like a child with tantrums. "ENOUGH!" I hit my fist on the ground, causing the wood to crack.

He growled furiously in response, clawing at the very edge of my mind.

"Damon!" Alaric’s voice rang from behind.

"Get to a basent... and chains," I growled, my dark eyes had turned into silver grey.

"MOVE A STEP AND I’LL RIP YOU APART." Beowulf, growled, montarily taking control.

Alaric froze in his spot, his brows furrowing, unsure of what to do. "Do I need to bring midnight into this?" He asked, clearly uninterested in doing so.

"Count out of this ss, I’m on vacation." Midnight said leisurely.

I growled at Alaric, taking back control. "My mind is a fucking ss right now. If he takes control, I’ll rip you and Midnight apart piece by piece."

Alaric rolled his eyes. "I can’t take you out now, if the fae finds out about you, that will be the end of our mission." He clasped his hand behind his back, pacing a few steps from . "The only advice I can give to you both is to find a common ground."

A loud growl reverberated from his chest, making him inhale deeply before shaking his head. At that mont, Beowulf and I agreed on the feeling of ripping him apart.

"Beowulf, what do you want?"

"EMBER!"

"Okay, and you Damon, what do you want?"

I glared at him. ’What is this now? A therapy? I never said I needed one.’

"Don’t look at like that, I am only trying to help you. Or else the fae will find what you really are." Alaric shrugged his shoulders, before sitting on the chair opposite ... he crossed his legs, staring at with a playful smirk.

"Can we kill him before fighting again?" Beowulf ran his tongue across his mouth.

I narrowed my eyes at him, he was trying to annoy , and it was working. "I agree. He is so disrespectful." I muttered under my ragged breath.

"What are you going to kill for trying to offer my help? How cruel, Alpha?" He sighed dramatically. "Damon, you know there is nowhere I can get a chain from..."

His eyes widened, my wolf form reflecting in his green irises.

"BEOWULF!" I yelled angrily, as I realized he had tricked . He pretended to be angry with only to take control.

My heart hamred in my ear as I watched him leap into the air, lunging towards Alaric, who looked petrified.

"Don’t you dare hurt my Beta!"

He smirked at . "He isn’t worth my ti."

Then my body twisted sharply, my legs tensed, furs replacing my skin, and before I could stop him. We leaped into the air.

The window shattered as we lunged through it, the glass a re ruffle over our fur. The cold night air hit us hard, it was fresh and damp.

He charged into the woods with only one thought. "I’m going to my mate."

"Beowulf, stop. You are going to get us killed." I tried to reason with him and get him to lower his guard.

"Killed? Who is powerful enough to do that?"

"Think of Ember. You want to protect her, right? You’ll ruin everything if they discover what we are." I calmly said.

A snarl built in our throat, and I could feel him wavering.

"Beowulf... do it for her. For us."
