1741 Any Children Born To Them Might Be ntally Challenged

Long Yang smiled with a raised eyebrow. “Isn’t it good news for both families to have another marriage? Our ties will be closer and I think the Dowager Duchess would be very supportive of this.”
The look on Lu Liangwei’s face changed as she flung the robe onto the bed and sat down. “I don’t agree to this.”
Long Yang was taken aback. He held her shoulders. “Why? Yin’er and Xue’er are maternal cousins who grew up together. There is a relationship between them. It would be a wonderful thing if their relationship could materialize into a marriage. Our families could even be closer because of this. Why wouldn’t you agree to it?”
Lu Liangwei frowned as she looked at the man’s puzzled face. It was difficult to explain this.
It was normal for maternal cousins to get married in olden tis. It was not strange for him to have such an idea and it was even highly acceptable in this era. However, she was from modern tis and knew very well the cons involved in maternal cousins being married.
She could not allow such a thing to happen when she knew the facts.
“Co on, tell why.” Long Yang found it strange when he saw her being silent. He could not help pushing for an answer. “Besides, I can tell that you dote on Xue’er a lot. Why wouldn’t you agree to a marriage between both families?”
Lu Liangwei sighed. “It has nothing to do with doting on her or not. I like Xue’er a lot and it hurts to see her ridden with illness at such a young age, but maternal cousins cannot get married. If they do, any children born to them might be ntally challenged.”
This startled Long Yang. “Is there really such a thing?”
Lu Liangwei nodded. “It’s true.”
“But at this point, I’ve seen many maternal cousins getting married and have never heard of any children born to them being ntally challenged.” This puzzled Long Yang trendously, but he knew Weiwei and she would not say sothing like that for no reason.
“Not hearing about it doesn’t an it won’t happen. Besides, what I’m saying is that there might be a possibility. There is no guarantee the child would really end up being ntally challenged. It doesn’t just happen between maternal cousins, even those who are closely related shouldn’t get married or it would cause unwanted defects.” Lu Liangwei explained, “All I want is to prevent such a thing from happening. If we allow it to happen one day, it would be too late for regrets.”
Long Yang thought about this silently. “You’re right. Just pretend I never ntioned this before.”
Lu Liangwei was relieved that he had accepted her advice.
However, Long Yang added, “But you need to be ntally prepared too. I can tell that Yin’er treats Xue’er quite differently.”
Lu Liangwei’s heart sank when she heard this. “What?”
Long Yang paused and said, “It’s because I’m a man that I can tell the aning of a look a man gives a woman.”
This got Lu Liangwei nervous. “Are you telling that Yin’er likes Xue’er?”
Long Yang nodded. “Yes.”
“No, I’m not. I realized this quite a while ago but I didn’t think it was a bad thing for both our families to have another marriage between us. Besides, Xue’er is still quite young, so, I didn’t tell you about it.”
