Chapter Eighty-Five
"Have you found whoever stole your cargo?" She asked as the silence stretched for a while.
"Changing the topic?" He snapped. "Who the fck is Demir?" Aht couldn’t take it anymore. He yelled and she flinched.
"What is your problem?" Asli straightened up in the sofa chair. "Don’t ever raise your voice at ." Her tone was quiet, but the edge in it could cut steel. "You accused this morning and pointed..."
Aht only tilted his head, eyes gleaming with arrogance. "Are you still mad about that?" His voice was low, edged with amusent like this was all so ga to him. Like he hadn’t pointed a gun at her, knowing damn well she had nothing to defend herself with.
Her fingers twitched before curling into fists. Heat simred beneath her skin, but she kept her expression ice-cold. "You really have the nerve to ask that?" she said.
He exhaled, dragging a hand through his hair as if she were the one being unreasonable. "It wasn’t that serious."
She whipped around, eyes flashing and settling directly into him. "Not that serious?" Her voice rose, filled with fury. "You pointed a gun at , Aht! At !"
She got up from her seat and took a step closer, her movents sharp, and controlled. "You don’t do that. Not to . Not when you knew I couldn’t even defend..." Her breath hitched. She exhaled sharply, forcing herself to stop before she said too much.
Aht didn’t flinch. His jaw tensed, but his gaze remained locked onto hers. "It was because I thought you were guilty. Besides, I was testing you." They both knew the last sentence was a load of crap.
"That I was guilty? You were testing ? For what exactly?" she repeated, laughing bitterly. "You tested with a loaded gun while mine was across the damn room? Do I look like one of your n that you can put through so sick initiation?" She knew he was lying about testing her.
His expression didn’t waver, but his eyes darkened... just enough for her to see it.
She shook her head, her voice quieter but no less dangerous. "You don’t trust . That makes sense. I was expecting that but I thought everyone knew I don’t do things and lie about it. Why would you think I’d lie to you? Do you take for a joke?"
Silence stretched between them, thick and suffocating.
And then, his voice ca low, controlled. "Funny. I was gonna ask you the sa thing."
A crease ford between her brows. "What the hell are you talking about?"
Aht scoffed, stepping closer. "Demir." He was not going to drop it, was he?
Her breath hitched slightly, but she quickly masked it with a glare. "What about him?"
He tilted his head, watching her like a predator. "You were smiling for him just now?" The most annoying thing about it was Demir wasn’t even looking at her yet just hearing his voice had been enough to pull a smile from her.
She went still.
His voice turned sharp, laced with sothing she couldn’t quite place... sothing almost possessive. "You never smile that easily. But for him? You do?" A dry chuckle left his lips, humorless. "That’s interesting."
She crossed her arms, forcing her expression into indifference. "And why the hell does that bother you?"
His jaw tightened. "You know why."
"No, I don’t." She stepped closer, her chin tilting up, daring him. "Because as far as I know, you shouldn’t give a damn who I talk to. You won’t even apologize. You won’t explain. You sure as hell don’t care if I’m pissed. But now— suddenly— you’re acting out because I had a conversation with another man?"
He didn’t move, didn’t blink. But the way his hands curled into fists told her she’d struck exactly where she needed to.
However, nostrils flared. "Conversation?" He let out a sharp breath, eyes burning into hers. "Don’t play gas with ."
The edge in his voice, the possessive, how dangerous... only made her angrier. Why did he sound like he cared? Like it actually mattered to him?
Why was she asking him if he cared? Well, he did. But why was she pointing it out?
Her lips parted, fury rising in her chest. "You don’t get to control what I do, Aht. We only fcked. You lost that right the second you put a gun in my face. I can fck whoever I want. Whether it’s Demir or whoever I choose to do it with, it doesn’t matter."
The words landed like a slap, and she saw it. She saw the way his jaw clenched and the way sothing dark and violent flashed in his eyes. If she were an ordinary
person, he would have murdered her.
Asli felt the air change as his gaze softened, the previous look of anger fading. Her heart skipped a beat, while a quiet surprise settled in. She blinked. She was not expecting the shift. Aht never backed down from a fight.
She had seen as his eyes no longer were sharp, and no longer challenging her.
What was he planning? What idea had suddenly struck that thick brain of his? There was a sudden movent on his lips yet no word ca out and she focused on it. His lips had curved in a teasing smile. What was he thinking about?
Before she could say any word to him or ask why he had that look on, he was on her. and his hand gripped her jaw, tilting her face up as his lips crashed against hers. It was not gentle. It was not careful. Rather, It was raw, ssy, filled with every bit of anger, frustration, and tension that had been boiling between them for days being apart.
She did not resist. Did she not tell him he did not have the right to touch her anymore? How then was she responding to his kisses hungrily and passionately? Why was she not pushing him away from her?
She should have. She should have shoved him away and reminded him that she hated him, that she was not his to control.
But instead, her fingers curled into his shirt, pulling him closer as her back hit the wall.
His hands road her body like he was staking a claim and like he needed to remind her exactly who he was. His lips dragged down her neck, his breath hot against her skin. "Oh Asli. You drive fucking insane," he muttered.
She let out a breathless laugh, tugging his head back by his hair, and forcing him to look at her. "Good," she whispered, almost forgetting he had not apologized yet. "Now you know how it feels." Was she admitting she was affected by him just as much as he was by her?
A growl rumbled in his throat as he lifted her effortlessly, carrying her to the bed.
*******
Aht is doing everything but apologize and Asli will make sure he apologizes.
